Why is nobody talking about this?
The free character trials is MASSIVE. Something thats been asked for ages now and its a huge step in the right direction for newer players. Well done :)

I agree, this is something that we needed!!!

Don't get hyped, the outfits buyable with shards what massive until we realized they came with fomo outfits, so we'll see what comes around this time

Because, in my opinion, it's another one of the "dbd does it worse than every other game on the market" things we get 3 or 4 years after we should have had them.
Most every free to play multiplayer game has a rotating free character queue. League has one, heroes of the storm has one, multiversus, etc. And those are FREE TO PLAY. Dbd has an up front cost to it, and then expects you to buy more DLC on top of it. This is another discussion entirely, but if cheating wasn't such an unmitigated issue for this game, it would have gone free to play a long time ago in my opinion. We had a shop overhaul to feature sales and collections, we now have rotating shops, battle passes, etc. which is everything free to play games have partly to make up for the lack of an up front cost. Why is it that we can't have a free rotating character list for both killer and survivor if we have to pay 20 dollars up front when we also have all the shops free to play games have?
This honestly feels like we're getting a singular drop of "QoL" and a bad one at that. What if a new player joins in between events? In a game where the balance is centered around perks, waiting 2 months for an event to maybe have a chance of having the character you were interested in getting is way too long. It's probably faster and overall better to grind out iridescent shards to buy a non licensed character and buy them without waiting to have a chance to test them out.
At the end of the day, it all comes down to how much you value waiting 2 months for something valued between 5 and 15 dollars (or iridescent shards for non licensed stuff). If the average DLC is 7 dollars and you're on the fence for a particular DLC, waiting 2 months to maybe have a chance to try out the DLC if it was selected arbitrarily is more than enough incentive for almost anyone with an income source to just spend 7 dollars, especially with videos online performing the same function of testing by showing character and perk capabilities for free.
In my opinion, this feature is only here to gain positive attention from the community and nothing more, since the entire feature is too random and sparce to mean anything to the players that would benefit the most from it. We should be getting a new rotating survivor and killer list every week in my opinion. Either that, or make all characters (non licensed, maybe even excluding the most recent 2) free to play during major events.
And this is coming from someone who owns all the DLC, so I gain absolutely nothing from this change.

It's available only for events and the devs ultimately get to pick which characters are free to try. They also said limited bloodweb so I imagine you can only go up to Bloodweb 50 and be unable to prestige so you can't just unlock their perks during the trial.
While it's good step, we'll have to see the actual implementation. BHVR has all the control over whom can be tried out for free.

We're getting to the point where this was necessary, give it another couple years and there's going to have to free weekly character rotations and maybe you can only level them up to 15 so you can try a full build but nothing past that.

It reminds me of the bone splinter offerings back in the good old days. Very good addition.

I already wrote this in the feedback section, personally it is absolutely no use to me that you can only do this in an event queue.
If I have a killer character whose power I don't know how to use properly, I am insecure and feel uncomfortable. The last thing I want to do in that situation is play against real people. We all know that the DBD community is not only made up of kind-hearted people, but many (killer and survivor players) find the most fun in making their opponents feel miserable.
If I imagine that 4 people are making me look like an idiot just because I'm testing a character that I don't know how to use, then I get anxiety so bad that I can't play at all.
So I will continue NOT to buy any new killers if I'm not sure whether their power suits me, because I definitely won't play against 4 real people to test a character. I don't have thick enough skin for that.
I wish we could test characters we don't know in custom matches (even with restrictions, so that you only have 5 custom games to test a character) before we decide whether to buy them or not.

Where is the best place to read about updates besides Twitter.. Since I left Twitter I find it difficult to find DBD news all in one place.

As someone who owns every survivor and killer in the game, this still makes me happy! This is exactly what a game like this should have implemented a long time ago and it gets my full on thumbs up.

The Information Center you can find at the top bar of the forums has most of the relevant info. Patch notes, dev updates, even the game rules.
You'll find the dev update under Game Info. The patch notes themselves will appear in, well, the patch notes section.

Thank you. I thought that was just info about how to play the game so I never looked there. Silly me!

If you have steam, they post their soon-to-be updates there. For me, i just go to my library, and at the top where the news for my games are, its there. The forums don't really get the soon-to-be ones, but just the existing ones. Hope that solved your question.

It is a good addition to the game but I'm curious to see what characters they will pick.

This is good.
Players who donβt want to buy Licensed Characters can finally do Adept/Power-related Achievements without being forced to fork over money.
It also leaves more room for players to make educated decisions about purchasing a character since they can try it out before deciding to spend money or not.
It also helps new players learn the game easier since they get broader access to content.
This is a massive step in the right direction for the game.

Because we haven't seen your name pop up for a while man, we were worried about you, so had to leave the bait hanging to see your dulcet... text... on the screen π
Seems like a sick feature... shame I am a DBD Magpie and own all the content πππ

I already found an issue with it.
It just stops you after reaching prestige 1, which sucks, because you can either run out of add-ons, offerings or not unlock the perks you want on the character.
Suggestion to fix this:
Make it so you get the infinite Level 50 bloodweb on that killer after reaching prestige 1. If it's an issue, then make it so everything bought after this point will not be kept in the killers loadout after you buy them.
Voila, problem solved.
