Dead by Daylight is extremely outdated
Compared to games that are released nowadays, dbd is a huge step back. There are barely any settings, there is no in-game recording, the graphics comes from PS2 era, a 20,000 pages book long worth of bugs which old or new bugs are also coming in with every patch they bring out, anti-cheat is severely lacking where cheaters could do some of the most ridiculous things like hacking items and speedhacking, noclip or hook animation spamming. The trash optimizations especially for consoles.
I haven't seen a game so unfriendly towards new players other than dbd. The grind is insane and I heard streamers suggesting new players to buy accounts but that doesn't come without risks. The new player experience is downright horrible. The servers are a downgrade compared to other multiplayer, live service games.
Then last and not least, some of the maps, killers, offerings, addons, perks and items are outdated too. Nothing feels like it belongs in 2024/2025.

1: somethings would be practically impossible such as in game recording (practically as they'd pretty much have to rebuild from the ground up and that would practically be DBD 2).
2: some of the graphics are stylistic choices and some are because they didn't update them. You'd need to be specific on what your talking about rather than blankets.
3: Don't think the devs have any control over easy anti cheat and how good or not it works.
4: it's mostly unfriendly due to what you need to learn and how vicious the community can be. One of us has been "teaching" newer players and the worst that's happened is that they keep talking out their butts. Compared to when we started, this is much better.
5: last but not least, the game is from 2016. This maybe us not getting what you mean by outdated but to us that just means old.

And yet this game is still being played after all this time.
And a lot of modern games - with all their features - are played and forgotten the moment you finished them.
Of course i like DbD to improve and i don´t like a lot of the decisions made - but - i still prefer this old game over new ones.

The graphics are not the issue tbh.
I know people go on about things looking “bad” but I rather the game run smoothly than have it run at 2 FPS and getting flash banged by the Ray Tracing from lights.
I think DBD’s issue is gameplay.
The game has been stale for awhile now since there hasn’t been any massive gameplay changes or meaningful mechanics added. BHVR has a formula, it works, but in the same regard, only following the formula gets boring, there is just no innovation.

But that is a very difficult thing to do.
I don´t want the gameplay to change to much. Also you can see that the competitors with all their ideas don´t manage to succeed either.
I want DbD to stay DbD but just overall a bit better → and also a bit more like old DbD.

Please go look at pictures of San Andreas before you start throwing "PS2 graphics" around, not after.
Anyway, the rest of your post is super vague outside of bugfixing and anticheat which are both going to be things that happen perpetually.
Sure, the game ain't marvel rivals. Give marvel rivals a year and it'll look like a game not released in the last year too.

To be fair, I never said it was an easy thing to fix either.
It will be difficult for BHVR to bring something new to the game that actually feels impactful since they have to please two angry mobs, but at least attempting something is better than letting the ship sink.

I'm fine with a game having mediocre graphics if it means rock-solid performance.

I've been playing the game since 2018 and have alot of recordings/footage from back then. The game actually looked better in many aspects back then.
There was a switch to UE5. There is Easy Anti cheat. Both are things that are "present" in the game, but you don't notice that they exist, which is very sad.
Easy Anti cheat can work if it is well designed and tailored to the game in question.
Do you notice anything? If resources were invested to make it usable. BUT That won't happen.
Just like there is still no server-side validation in that PvP game( I always have to smirk when I think about it)
suble cheater in higher MMR are a real issue by now, no worries it will get so worse at some point that they are forced to take on the issue.As Pulsar rightly said, there is no competition. But what there is are millions of people happily investing their hard-earned $ into the game by the hundreds.
It's definitely a nice life as a development studio with the personas these days xD

So now that that's out, and to be fair, what has actually improved since then?

Do you think killer is unfair and bad to play today? Oh boy. It was really bad back then with all the useless window loops and the time that it took longer for many more actions as a killer. This is really a huge improvement.
Also there is a DC penalty, bots and EGC now. - New killer designs and sound design
Many of the new killers (apart from a few that I don't need to name) are really well thought out and feel very interesting to play. The Unknown, The plague, demogorgon,.. And especially the chase music and sound design for the killers.
Several steps forward have really been taken here.

Yes, the game existed for quite some time without one. There were plans for something similar with the early-game, but they never got anywhere near live.
Is it not common knowledge anymore that EGC is an added fearure?

That's crazy. I suppose its not, but to be fair I didn't go digging for it on the internet. I joined around the time Wesker was released into the game. The EGC was already there.
I am still mind blown honestly that EGC wasn't always a feature lol.

Before EGC the gates could be opened and the survs roam around for an eternity it felt like. I think the server would close after like two hours maybe? Not sure on that.
Very early on it was even possible to repair the other gens after the gates got powered.
Old DBD was wild.

Back before even I played hooks could be permanently sabo'd, you could self heal at a pallet stun, DS and moris were both on demand, and picking up & hooking took like a week to do.
After I started believe it or not the Coldwinds were dark! 😋
