Ranking system a little too strict?
So does anyone else think the new ranking system is a little too strict on both sides? I just had a killer game where I got a 4k without camping and still barely black pipped. I do agree the system should have been changed but this seems a little ridiculous.

It's not strict, the problem is that the emblem system doesn't consider what to do when a game goes by too quickly. Chaser emblem is super low if you steamroll, and Malicious doesn't go very high either if the match is too quick. Also, if you steamroll, you can't get iridescent Devout. The only guaranteed iridescent is Gatekeeper when steamrolling.

@AntiJelly see It would make sense if it were just steamroll games but one of my recent 4k games there was multiple chases, hooks and unhooks, and gens completed and still just a safety pip. Just feels wonky to get a 4k and not see any progress (or almost a loss of progress)

Still early - but I don't think it is too strict, yet. It is just too easy to de-pip from various factors out of your control.

The system probably is too strict as you're now being held responsible for ensuring that a certain type of play pattern happens. You have to defend all your gens for at least the first 9 minutes. That is when they count the most towards your score. Then you need to make sure you having multiple short chases that you win. You also need to hit a ton during the trial. A lot more hits are needed to score malicious really well. Then you've got too hook a decent bit more than with the other system. It's 9+ hooks and a 4k to get iridescent devout. To safety pip confidently you still need about 6-8hooks and a 3k. Also camping penalty on chaser has been increased and the distant you need to minimum distance is more too. So strats that revolve around bait survivors are out if you want to keep chaser from going to hell.
So you have to build in these artificial moments of "safety" or you can hinder your score by being too good at the game. You need to make sure you get good at defending during the early game and manipulating survivors to help each other during the mid game. If you're a survivor then you need to do gens, fight over hook saves, heal others, get chased for long periods of time, and still manage to escape. Now the issue is that not every player wants to fight each other for the hook save or has the ability to run the killer around long term. Stealth players get punished for being stealthy, gen jockeys get punished for prioritizing gens over chases and saves.
The scoring systems wants a survivor to build in artificial moments of "risk" to avoid hindering your score. So we have this situation that places the responsibility of tailoring that game experience to be more even on the players rather than make any sweeping gameplay or mechanical changes to address issues. That means that ranks are useless because highly skilled players can't necessarily rank out of lower ranks consistently to where they only face each other and medium skill players can't really track progression with rank increase. New players and low skill players have to face people they have no business playing against which is going to make them less likely to play. The deranking problem got solved in reverse as now the game is just going to derank you as a matter of habit. Just play the game without the play patterns in mind and you'll be in lower ranks without having to dc.

Oh I can fully agree with your statements. I am just saying that if it is strict you can still slowly pip, but with de-pips so easy to get just by walking into a crappy game (a situation that happens often especially with solo play) you can be a great survivor, but luck dictates if you can make it to rank 1 more than skill. If they eased up on the de-pips for things that are out of a player's control maybe the pipping would not be seen as so strict.

Well, Adept Plague is the only Achievement that eludes me. I'm kind of hoping that this gets looked at at some time, or it may continue to do so! :/

Yeah I missed out on adept legion and adept meyers the other day. Got 4ks in both, but only "ruthless killer". Granted I had a dc and 3 moris, so hooks and gens were not exactly factors to my points, but I didnt realize I had to get a specific score to get it. I'd always assumed they popped from a 4k with just the 3 perks.
Gonna be a fun grind now trying to draw out and win a 4k with legions base perks. 🙃
