Isn't using the Glicko rating system a bit strange for a 1v4 ASYM? (MMR)
Recently found out that it's pretty much a guaranteed thing that BHVR uses this system, which is primarily used in games like Chess and other 1V1's
This to me seems incredibly strange but somewhat telling
Remember when they said they think DBD is a 1v1v1v1v1?
Also, I heard that You can't request your MMR anymore
They apparently consider your MMR a trade secret and something that you absolutely cannot have
I knew BHVR likes to take the easy way But not even putting in a Proper MMR Rating system meant for a 1V4 is kinda beyond pathetic

What do you mean by "recently found out"? And how old is that info?
They have actually changed (or are going to change) how MMR is affected for survivors according to how many teammates are sacrificed or escape, making it more of a team-weighted personal rating.
For killer it functions perfectly fine as a 1v1 equivalent system. (Theoretically, of course because MMR is already weighted based on your opponents MMR, if survivors MMR is wonky then killers will be by association)

What does 'proper' mean? AFAIK, DbD is in a fairly unique position due to its asymmetry, so I'm really not sure what you mean with 'Proper MMR Rating system meant for a 1V4'.

Well glicko can work fine for DBD, as long as the MMR gain/loss is equal on both sides. For example if you face a higher MMR team, lets say you gain 23 rating for a 4K instead of the usual 20, then the survivors should also lose 23 rating as an average. (E.g. 20, 23, 23, 25 are the survivor rating losses with the '20' being the same mmr as you, and '25' being the highest mmr in the game). The thing the glicko system does is account the difference in mmr and adjust accordingly instead of having a flat mmr loss/gain every game.
Not saying the current rating system is good by any means, only using kills to determine skill is a stupid way to do it, but that's not related to glicko. And yes BHVR are cringe for going to their legal team to specifically hide MMR from privacy data.

From what I understand, They didn't even bother to attempt to use something like TrueSkill or develop their own instead they just went with the easiest thing they could do / cheapest
Glicko from what i've read and asked chatgpt is something that you can pretty much copy and paste into games without any effort It's also free so they didn;t have to pay for it
Glicko is not meant for Asyms it's meant for 1v1's and symmetricals
Edit to clarify that im not saying true skill as something they could of used instead but it's something that would most likely work better for DBD

Glicko is just a rating gain/loss adjuster and might also be used in matchmaking queue for some reliability, it really has nothing to do whether a game is 1v1 or not. You should read about it on the wiki page instead of relying on chatGPT to explain it, which clearly it didn't.

I also heard Choy say the same thing chatgpt pretty much I also never use wikipedia
I gotta go so i wont respond as much if at all for a while so have a nice day

And that's why you're misinformed on what glicko rating actually does. Just because it's used for 1v1 games doesn't mean it doesn't work on asymmetrical games.

It's conceptually fine. DbD is a game with a high level of RNG and trying to take into consideration all of the different factors would be close to impossible.
An example of this is how they don't separate out sweatiness and use of tactics. BHVR devs have said if a new killer starts playing, uses their best addons, and just tunnels non-stop, they are going to fly up the MMR and they'll suddenly hit teams they don't know how to deal with. And BHVR is fine with this.
On top of that, the MMR is supposed to just generally match you with like skilled opponents. There's no public rankings, there's no MMR prize, it is just for general matching. It is meant to take long term view of player outcomes and match them up.
Now how well does the system work out? That's a bigger debate and BHVR is probably the only one who knows the real answer.

Well it's clearly not working well for DBD.

I just came across the video you mentioned. He's talking about things as if they are new discoveries when they have been well known, and publicly argued over, for years.

So you saw Choy's video. This really was an eye opener on how stupid this games "rating system" not ranked is so flawed. Requesting mmr was essentially pointless since its not accurate information, you can't base skill off of a 1v1v1v1v1.

What system should replace this?
