Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Ideas for how to reduce 2v8 queue times...

...without turning it into a 2v6 with bots everywhere.

I won't go into a rant about how predictably bad the bot-fills ended up being, and instead offer constructive feedback on how we could reduce the queue times without adding bots into it. So...

Solution 1: Quick Play

• In older versions of DbD, there was an option to play a random role in exchange for faster queue times. It did eventually get removed because of how little it was used.
• This feature could be reimplemented into the game, exclusively for the 2v8 mode, with a small change: as a reward for using it, you would either recieve a small amount of iridescent shards or a bonus to XP gains from the trial.
• Iridescent shards are particularly hard to gain in this game, so a way to get more of them would, in my opinion, be very welcome.

Solution 2: Priority Tickets

• This is likely the solution most of you have heard of, and would be most likely to be put in.
• It could work like this: after playing a certain amount of matches as a survivor (without DCs, of course), you would get a priority ticket, which would considerably shorten your waiting time next time you queue up as the killer.
• This would motivate a lot of people who don't want to wait for upwards of 20 minutes for a killer game.
• There is a small risk of it making queues even longer for those who don't have a ticket, so I'd be wary of that.

Solution 3: New Features

• This is the simplest solution, as it would likely happen anyway, but it's becoming a priority now because of everything.
• Add more survivor classes (this is an older post made by MintskullYT, with some neat ideas)

• Add new optional side objectives (similar to how you added herbs for the RE iteration if 2v8)
• Increase bloodpoint gains in the trial (wouldn't be the most impactful, but it'd be nice)

Solution 4: Preference System

• This one could be quite controversial, and turn away some people, so I wouldn't use it first.
• Friday the 13th: The Game had a system which would first create a full lobby, and then randomly pick one of the players as the killer. A similar system could be implemented into 2v8.
• The players would be unable to guarantee what role would they be, only select which one they'd prefer.

Thoughts?

I think a combination of 1 and 4 would be best.

Essentially, people get a random role when they queue up but if you're selected as killer you can "pass" on the role to another random survivor within the first half of the lobby timer.

Most Killers are usually okay playing Survivor, whereas I know several friends of mine would be absolute hot garbage as Killer and hate it.

I'd love 3 tbh, I'd play more survivor if I had more ways to play like in 1v4

Killers like Nurse just arent any fun to play against, ways to slow them down indirectly would make it a lot more bareable.

I mainly play killer to do my challenges as its easy.

The 3rd solution looks fun! Some Iri Shards for survivors would be nice too.

I feel like BHVR needs to update the 2v8 survivor gameplay considerably, and make it offer a lot of new, fresh stuff, and a lot of variety. The more fun the survivor role is, the more people will want to play it again and again, and that will cause the killer queue times to drop. So yeah, new classes, new objectives (not just gen repairing).

And also, each new iteration of 2v8 should have minimum killer updates. At least until the queue times become balanced.

I get the idea behind the bots in lobbies, but it actually backfired. Playing with bots is much less fun that with real people, so people don't really want to play survivor… which in turn keeps killer queues long.

I love all of these suggestions and would take any of them at this point so I can enjoy the remaining time I have left for this 2v8 before I ship for bootcamp

I feel like the problem with #4 is alot of people would want to dc if they didn't get killer.

I think they should add proximity chat, affecting all players. It would be really nice to hear your teammates, almost enough of a convincing upside to the already survivor sided gamemode, that can attract and keep survivor players interested, without making gens fly any faster for killers.

Ontop of that, bots need to be studied, literally. Their behaviour seems oddly lore accurate to have the devs invisioned DBD be played. They should let players first off see their bot teammate's class before a match starts (atm you can't), they should play more aggressively rather than passively keeping the team alive with altruism, and they need to have their bugs fixed, like; ineractables bug, outlandish pathing away from resources sometimes, their ability to know where the killer is at all times (causes things like ghostface getting revealed from across the map in rare cases bad)

Otherwise, 2v8 is in its most balanced state, but still surv sided

I already think survivor 2v8 is super fun. I play solo queue, and it's so much easier to escape in 2v8 compared to 1v4 solo queue. I'm escaping like 90% of my trials. I would definitely play even more for iri shards. Hoping they try that next

Now, I’m not sure about proxy chat being a good hook for players, since not everyone would be using it for communication. Many would use it to be annoying.

As far as bots go, yeah. They are an oddity.

Basically give survivors ways to annoy the killer like head on/blast mine/chemical trap/mirrored illusion/whatever depending on the role they choose and what wouldn’t be too overwhelming for the killers (Maybe modifying the perks somewhat like increasing the cooldown,.

Maybe flashbang too or just add those (Or firecrackers or similar) to chests.

Annoying is funny and unique tho. Which dbd needs alot of

2 or 4 sounds good. These 2 models could be modified with a look at the statistics of the role the player is picking in normal games. If there is a person playing most normal matches killer, then it should be easier for this person to get the ticket (2) or to be randomized as killer (4) and the other way round. For disconnecting or leaving the lobby if you don't like your role there should be a harder penalty than in normal mode, so that everybody who joins, knows what awaits them, if they are unfair to others.

Iri-shards for survs are also a good idea.

Another option could be to fill the lobby from the beginning with 8 bots and then change them with survs who join in 1 or 2 minutes. This should be an optional modifier every player can activate or deactivate. So everybody has the posibility to play this 2v8-game as a killer in a short time if wanted.
