Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Hot take: Keyboard and mouse on consoles might cause large killer nerfs

Keyboard and mouse on consoles might cause large killer nerfs.

You want a hot take? Console killers have been dragging down the average killer winrates for years, because trying to play killer on a controller is hot trash.

For example, when the official killer stats said Blight had a 59% kill rate, was it really a 59% kill rate? Or was it something like 65% PC kill rate and 50% console kill rate?

If enough of the console users change to mouse and keyboard, will it raise the kill rates enough that large killer nerfs would need to be added to the game?

I honestly think there won't be that many console players switching to MnK. It'll just be nice for the few that'd put in the effort to do so.

I'd imagine they also already have kill rates per-platform so they can see if there's a large discrepancy that'd indicate that a killer needs improvements on controller.

Hmm. This is an interesting viewpoint you shared. If allowing console players to have the same tools as PC players really causes numbers to change, that indicates a balance issue the developers are blinded to. If we assume they use statistics to make balance decisions, having different tools is another variable to consider. This should ideally make decisions easier for BHVR.

Sadly main reason I'm on console is my hands can't take the wear and tear of a keyboard and mouse anymore...

So there will still be at least one scrub getting spin teched every 15s... 😭😭😭

very few will do the switch . Also console is just behind in other ways . Lower fps , no reshade

I'm such a hardcore console kid that I use a controller whenever possible, even when playing on my Steam account.

This is honestly one of the few QoL changes that kinda makes me shrug because I don't think a huge number of players will actually take advantage of M&K on console. But I know some people have asked for it, so maybe I'm wrong…

Besides, the only console I play on is the Switch and I'd rather they focus on improving and optimising perfomance instead (and for some of the older platforms as well). Lack of M&K on Switch is the least of its issues.

I feel like it must be possible to make some improvements because Fortnite uses the same engine as DBD and that game runs incredibly well on the Switch, all things considered.

I doubt the # changes much at all. We'll see.

I also wondering if there could be QoL to make controllers less awful. For example, button combinations for…

    1. instant 90 degree turn clockwise
    2. instant 90 degree turn counterclockwise
    3. instant 180 degree turn

I honestly don't know how anyone is supposed to play a teleporting killer like Nurse or Unknown, when it takes SO LONG for a controller to make a 180 degree turn. And trying to use a controller to follow a survivor that wants to "360" around the killer, is SO AWFUL, because we aren't allowed to quickly turn with a controller.

None of those games have DBD's famous unwieldy coding to contend with. Much more demanding games like RD2 run just fine on the older machines, but have trouble digesting this game in particular. So do lower end PC's for that matter.

As for the subject at hand, I don't think they've ever released kill rates by platform across the killers. But I'd love to see them none the less. I imagine it would depend on which killer, like Singularity or the ranged ones needing more precision may be lower. Won't know until we seem them though.

This is a big if. I have no doubt that controller players hold back kill rates but I don't expect that many to switch.

I doubt BHVR cant already see the differentes of (Killer) Performances based on platforms and they have stated before (and demonstrated) that they do not simply balance just around stats alone.

And those tactics can work because of the inherent input delay and stick deadzones that have always needed to be addressed. I often have to stop dead in my tracks and even take a step back when being spun. Not fun.

the only killer I could see getting more complaints after the change will be oni. He’s not exactly popular but what keeps him somewhat in check is that console players can’t 180 his demon strike. Versing a console vs pc oni is night and day, but giving all players the ability to “remove the counterplay” will definitely be a hot topic.

Playing on controller really isn't that bad for like 80% of the killer roster.

Hell, with enough effort you can get close-ish to pc level. I've seen a few really good Huntress's, Blight's and Nurse's that I would have bet money on being PC when they were PS5.

The biggest killer you might see a difference in is Trickster. I'd argue he's the hardest to play at a high level on controller since he needs pinpoint adjustments all the time. You might also see some change in killers like Billy and Oni since they have mouse only techs.

All the other killers might go up a percent or two but I doubt it'll be much since most won't change over anyway.

You can't say things like "mouse only techs" around here. The cordless torches and dpi pitchforks are now coming for you! 🤣😂

I saw the kb/m thing and freaking cheered. I already have a keyboard plugged into my PS5 for typing messages. Just wish they'd release this sooner. For some reason they can't just give console the same options as PC without waiting til the 2nd half of the year...

Is there any thing in this game that wont lead to killer nerfs?

Just hope Nintendo doesn't make a console capable of 30fps or killer might get nuked.

Im certainly gonna be upset that i have to play against more blights, which he does need to be nerfed to maybe 3 rushes and longer cooldowns per rush with other little buffs sprinkled in there. Allow him to use his power no matter his tokens, like wesker, first rush should be infinite until a bump, its just a weaker billy sprint

Still brainstorming ideas for Nurse nerf but thats unrelated to this post

Turn rate killers should likely just have a max degrees per second turn rate thats cannot be bypassed by any means. So no dpi enhancers, cursor sensitivity won't affect the game's camera when you reach the game's cap.

Personally i find all turn rate killers to be really boring, since majority of the time it is just pc players abusing their easier controls and potential exploits because of the high sense

I don't know how they could hard lock turn rates like that effectively, but they'd get a huge backlash for trying to.

  • Coffeecrashing
    Coffeecrashing Member Posts: 5,667

They've already done this with Blight. He has a large angle turn nerf, which still works even if a mouse is at something ridiculous like 24,000 DPI. And yes, it did cause backlash. And if I remember correctly, it took 4 separate nerf patches before BHVR figured out how to nerf the turn rate correctly.

The only killer that is arguably still broken is Oni, because he can still 180 M2, even though he looks like he's supposed to have an M2 turn rate limit.

I might try out using mouse and keyboard. I very much doubt I'll be any better or get along with it but worth a go

I don't have or have any intention of getting mouse and keyboard just for dbd.

I can see players who are obsessed with kills making the switch.

There are some really bad killers on controller especially the turrets on alien. 90% of games with the turrets turn it into a m1 killer.

I'm not gonna connect a mouse and keyboard to play console DBD. I might switch to PC one day, but I'd rather they just make the console controls functional like every other game does.

And that's something that's majorly wrong with the game. You should never be able to move or spin faster as survivor, at point-blank range, than the killer can even react to. No other game makes melee attacking this difficult. You would just give the player a more generous hitbox, instead of a baseball sized one.
