The chest in the basement should have higher-quality loot in it.
Make that chest special. Give survivors more of a reason to enter the basement and loot it. Make chest defending cannibals less lonely.
I'll note that the special secret MU-TH-UR room on the Nostromo Wreckage map (the one where you need to find a keycard on a dead body and enter a code) has a chest in it that seemingly always has a purple rarity item in it. Can the same mechanic be applied to the basement chest?

the guarantee of a higher rarity item should theoretically help survivors, do you think it would still be helpful it if at some point during the match all four survivors take time to go to the basement just for 3 of those survivors to end up finding the chest already opened? Having 3 survivors waste that much time, along with putting themselves at risk while going in basement, seems to be doing more harm than good.
