Issues with basekit mori

A while back, the cypress mori was made basekit for all killers to use. While this was a harmless, QOL change that spiced up the end game, it really took a lot of the spice to moris away now that you see it every game.
This also really made slugging for the 4k far more common, as it guarantees you'll get a nice way to end the match if you do so. Really kills your mood for the game when this happens every two games.
I'm honestly in support of reverting this change, as it serves little purpose gameplay wise and only makes moris less special as you see them almost every game.
What are your guy's thoughts on this?

I agree.
If for no other reason, I think the mention about slugging for the 4k is reason enough to look at the idea.
I've spoken about the infamous 2 v 1 situation a few times now. It's one of the worst gameplay outcomes I've ever seen in a game and cannot think of another that mimics sacrificing one player's agency for another's like this does.
We shouldn't incentivize making a player rot on the ground for 4+ minutes as a gameplay mechanic. On paper, it just doesn't make sense to me.

I also still don't get why they don't take into consideration Hooked Survivors either. Just means in the event that the last two are down or one is hooked and other chased, it falls onto the Hooked survivor "going next" to politely let the Killer have the Mori if they down the last survivor, or the Killer waiting out the Hook stages of all other survivors to kill the last survivor.
Sure, if it took Hooked Survivors into consideration there could be some edge-cases where the Hooked Survivor had a self-unhook perk available to use, but those cases would be far fewer than the above annoyance.

Doesn't guarantee anything, many times survivors have crawled to a common hatch spawn location and crawled out the second it spawned
-2 -
I call bs. This happens so rarely. Lol
-1 -
Very common because if people play long enough they know the common spawn points. I have tons of saved clips from my matches where I literally watched the survivor crawl to a location and wait... Then hatch spawns right under them.

I dont think it should be reverted but changed rather.
Here is my idea for a new Unlock Condition for mori:
When all 4 survivors are alive AND on death hook, only then Mori becomes unlocked for the killer. This way killers have to work for mori instead of it being handed to them. The mori becomes more of a rare, special event. Due to all survivors needing to be alive and on death hook for activation, it should additionally reduce tunneling. When it has been successfully unlocked, a glowing red mori skull will be displayed next to the hook counter for killer.

Nops.
Doesn't need to be reverted at all. BHVR just need to add a condition to it that is if all other survs are on struggle you can immediately mori the surv on the ground.0 -
I've thought from the moment the finisher mori was implemented that if all remaining survivors other than the last survivor is on hook and second stage, then you should be able to mori the last survivor. Realistically the game is over at that point, and nobody can self unhook because they're in second stage. Bonus points if starting the mori animation on the last survivor also immediately sacrifices the survivors on hook in struggle stage.
If we reworked Slipper Meat and Luck and removed self unhooks outside of Deli and Wicked, then this could even happen from first stage as long as no self unhook perks were in play.

From my experience there was not really an increase in slugging for the 4K with the Basekit-Mori. Maybe a bit, but not significant.
IMO the bigger issue is still slugging for the 4K, since the Killer prolongs a game they already won, despite them having all the advantages when it comes to searching for the Hatch. But this did happen before the Basekit-Mori change and this still happens when the Killer does not even use the Mori-Option.
At best the Basekit-Mori prolongs the time the last Survivor is killed a bit, since the Killer might wait until the Survivor on the Hook is dead so that they can get the Mori. But this should not really take more than a few extra seconds, so I dont see it as an issue.
Changes to slugging for the 4K - yes. But changes to the Basekit-Mori are not needed IMO.

Indeed. I'm still genuinely surprised they haven't made customisable moris a thing as it's another thing they can sell
-3 -
Now here me out...
They make it so you can mori the last 2 survivors alive. When there's 2 survivors left and one gets downed, what are the possible outcomes? Pick up and hook survivor and do a hatch standoff with the other one, or leave them slugged on the ground for 4 minutes til you find the other survivor.
In both scenarios the first survivor down is gonna die, whether it be getting hooked or bleeding out. So how about you can mori that survivor then afterwards instantly go into a hatch standoff with the other.
But this doesn't work if they wanna slug for the 4k but they can't really fix that.

I said it before and will say it again. It also robs a would be escape on the survivor part. I Had games here and there when someone get down just by the open gate and me and the other two is body blocking and just before the survivor can wiggle off killer drops them and forces us out then moris the poor victim who would have lived by crawling to gate or wiggle off if killer wierdly picks them up .
Either get rid of it or put the survivor must be on 2 hooks to use finisher mori basically base kit green mori instead. This was certainly the reason along with bots why slugging become so out of hand and no one will ever convince me either wise.

I mean, they have. Three that I can think of so far. Naughty Bear (Trapper), Ultimate Houndmaster (granted that's only the Dog appearance changed, so you might not count that one) and True Form Dracula (Premium Rift, also has a Deep Rift variant though the Mori is the same on both)
Oh thought of a 4th. Were-Elk (Huntress)0 -
Yeah, but I mean it in the sense that they haven't expanded it further in which moris aren't locked to cosmetics but interchangeable.
Obviously those visceral (or whatever they called them) moris can only be used on those specific cosmetics because of the animations fitting with model. If we could have more of a variation on mori animations it wouldn't be as boring seeing the same ones over and over again especially older rubbish ones like Trapper and Wraith.
Knowing Behaviour they'd probably keep them available to purchase for auric cells only.

Slugging for the 4k have nothing to do with the basekit mori, it existed in most games before that, because of the hatch.
Remove both or remove none.

Hatch doesn't cause slugging for 4k. Just because an obstacle to a person's goal exists, that doesn't mean the obstacle is causing that person to find a way to simply circumvent the obstacle. Imagine if someone running hurdles just decided to go around the hurdles because they're in the way, and then told other people that what they did is a totally valid tactic to win the race. In DbD, the main difference is that bypassing the obstacle hasn't been made strictly against the rules yet.
Hatch was implememted because of a fundamental flaw in the game design: Killers are meant to sacrifice the survivors while survivors are meant to survive and escape the trial. On it's own, that's not a problem. But if the game snowballs, one survivor will be left to do two or more gens, which is a hopeless situation. At that point, the game should naturally shift to the last survivor hiding and trying to very slowly work generators. The survivor can't escape the trial if they're sacrificed, so they hide. But people broadly don't like this for a couple reasons. Most killers find it boring, and most survivors find it hopeless and possibly boring also.
Hatch is designed to prevent this from happening. It provides a realistic way for the last survivor to escape, giving them a reason to play out the endgame. By doing that, it also prevents a long drawn-out game of hide-and-seek since the survivor has a strong incentive to actively try to escape. Meanwhile, the hatch mechanic is designed in a way that still favors the killer: the killer has higher move speed than the survivor, and doesn't need to hide if the survivor shows up. In that way, hatch solves the problem of a long hide-and-seek match which naturally would be the end of almost every game otherwise. The killer maintains their good outcome for the match (they have their 3k locked in), and are likely to still get a 4k. But now the survivor literally can't hide forever because egc will trigger if hatch is closed.
Slugging for 4k happens because some players refuse to be satisfied with anything but a practically guaranteed 4k. The killer will still win most hatch races, but some players nevertheless want to get an easy fourth kill by forcing the game into exactly the state hatch was meant to prevent. Hatch isn't causing slugging for 4k, players wanting an easy fourth kill is what's causing it.

It does, im not sure if you are new to the game, but a lot of killers slugged 3rd kill before basekit mori was implemented to avoid the hatch spawn and get the 4k.
-1 -
Ugh... I'm so tired of seeing that kind of dismissive response. I am not new to the game, nor am I unaware that slugging for 4k happened before the finisher mori.
You might notice that my comment didn't mention the finisher mori at all. Instead, it was addressing this idea that hatch causes slugging for 4k. It simply does not. Slugging for 4k could not exist without hatch, but hatch does not cause slugging for 4k. It's the same way that carjackings cannot exist without cars, but cars do not cause carjackings.
If you disagree with that thought process, it would be great to hear why you think that way. I tend to be happy to discuss things when someone explains why they think the way they do :)

Killers can't have anything lol.
The mori does not reward slugging for the 4k. All it does is play a little animation you can already see for free on the lobby screen. If you want to get the mori daily or tome challenge at all cost, you can bring an offering. I have not seen any increase in slugging for the 4k. Even when it does happen, if the other Survivor is still dying on the hook, the killer usually picks up and carries to a hook instead of slugging and waiting for them to die.
People can say "Oh, what if a Survivor was dropped at almost max wiggle progress and everyone else is forced out then they can't crawl out anymore." So what? Like I am serious. What is your point? "Oh when they nerfed Made for This it created scenarios where you would have escaped in the past with the made for this speed boost, but now you don't anymore." Yes. This is a life service game. It changes sometimes. The finishing mori made it so you actually need to stay in the trial to help your teammate. It was a balance change to the game and since Survivors get so many buffs, why shouldn't they get some nerfs too?
The finisher mori is healthy to the game. If you try to do the daily or a tome challenge to kill by your hands, and you even bring the mori offering, but everyone goes next on first or second hook, you can still get it. Same if the Survivors are too greedy to go for saves and you get multiple people on the ground on the same time. Wouldn't be the case without the mori. Sure, you'd still win but you'd need to play another game for the challenge.
What if the survivor is down near a corner, but the last hook was used on another Survivor or, even worse, is still on Breakdown cooldown. You don't need to wait for it to respawn and can just kill them. A flip flop + power struggle Survivor lying in a pallet? Well, in the past that would just end up with them bleeding out because they lose if they try to crawl away and the killer loses if they pick them up.
These are all scenarios that before would also be a "win" for the killer, but the finisher mori just makes it more convenient.

it was not ment as dismissive or demeaning in any way, but i legit dont have any way of know how long you played, and i think the fact that you claim that slugging for 4k was not a thing before the base-kit mori suggested that you were new. I am sorry if you took offense to that.
Same can be said about the base-kit mori.

I have never said that slugging was not a thing before the finisher mori.
Also, the finisher mori can exist independent of these mechanics we're talking about.
My comment said literally nothing about the finisher mori. There's absolutely no reason to mention it in response to the comment I made.
2 -
It doesn't hurt the game, as you're implying. In fact, it plays around dumb scenarios when an exit is open but you had to drop a survivor because there's no near hooks. Usually, that survivor would get to crawl out for free. If the base mori is there, you actually get the kill you earned. I guess even that is killer having "too much."
1 -
I've had these situations too. If I am forced to drop a survivor and they crawl free, that means I didn't earn the kill.
2 -
You claim that it have become more common now, because of the finisher mori. - This is what i am challenging.
Do you really wanna see that same mori every 15 minutes? - Yeah its cool the first time, and perhaps the 5 first times, but at some point it just becomes marginal how cool it is to watch it over and over.
The only reason i use it, if i am playing killer, is to save time going to the hook (this saves time for both sides).
Do you want both sides to have more wasted time? because that is what will happen if the mori gets removed. The slugging for the 4k will still happen, just as it did before the basekit-mori was implemented.
-2 -
I've had the same thought, but the people the slug for the 4k now would probably still slug for the 4k. The whole idea is that they want to circumvent hatch and guarantee a 4k, so this wouldn't help. It would definitely speed up the endgame once there's only 2 survivors left though, no more having to hook and then wait for the second to last survivor to be dead on hook to mori, or hook and have to sit through a bunch of self unhooks and hook stages. Just bam, mori either of them as soon as you down them.

Please, and I mean this as politely as possible, show me where in the comment of mine that you replied to that I said anything at all about the finisher mori.
You'll find that's not possible because I said nothing about it in this thread. Furthermore, you have accused me of saying things I have never said at all in my life.
This feels like the equivalent of me going to a member of the forum who I know thinks tunneling is a fine strategy and starting a debate with them even though they didn't say anything about it.
Perhaps you've confused me with the op?
2 -
My apologies, i mistook you for the OP

lol No worries :)
I do tend to agree somewhat with the op about the finisher mori, so maybe I'll put some comment here about it soon and then we can discuss that too. But for now I had just been very confused about the direction of the conversation.
Thanks for entertaining my responses until we figured it out :)

Yeah im sorry again, all this time i was sure you were the OP… but im happy we got it sorted 😂
