Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Can the killer giving you hatch be considered against the rules ("working with killer")?

I've had a few matches ever since I started using the perk Bardic Inspiration that got me thinking. I'm a solo survivor main, and I've been running Bardic Inspiration for a month or so. Occasionally I'll have bad matches where 1 or 2 gens are done, 2 survivors are sacrificed, only 2 of us left and there is zero chance we both make it out.

In these situations I've found trying to charm the killer works a good chunk of the time, especially if I whip out the guitar and play for the killer. Like half the time, they leave me be. But if that happens, they then usually try and go find the other teammate, sacrifice them, and give me hatch. It didn't really occur to me until recently that its kind of a dick move and might be considered working with the killer maybe? I've only ever tried charming the killer when the match is totally lost, and I'm about to get the hook. Sort of a last attempt. But the fact they usually go hook the other survivor makes me feel bad, so I'm not gonna do it anymore unless I'm the last survivor. But I was just curious if that would be considered working with the killer or not?

I've had salty people try and report me for giving hatch but I'm still kickin. Bunny Fengs hopping around are my weakness. Sorry, Steve...

Diplomacy is a legitimate tactics and unfortunately your teammates simply got out perked in the 1v1v1.

I think it's worth noting that a game like DBD has been changed and shaped so much by the community that largely 'the rules' are formed moreso around the devs understanding of how people play and adapting around them.

From that angle, although giving hatch is breaking the no teamwork rule between killer and survivor in certain instances, it's so ingrained in our etiquette as players that some of us simply don't see it as selling out our teammate, despite the fact that's what it amounts to in practice.

Yeah, it's like a secondary effect from the Bardic Inspiration perk. Killers seem to be easily charmed by a Cheryl playing them a song.

In theorie it can. In reality bhvr can't force the killer to kill the last person and you can't decide who the killer kills - so I'd be really surprised if bhvr actually cares about that.

Getting feedback about a report doesn't mean someone was punished - it just means someone reviewed your report and took what they felt was the appropriation which can include doing nothing and closing the report. Sometimes the appropriate action is to disregard the report.

If you use that perk on me, I just leave you alone, lol.

Working with the killer referees to a survivor telling the killer where the rest of your team is, which is a banable offense.

playing your music instrument may or may not guarantee the killer letting you go, that's all.

Working with the killer specifically refers to those times where the survivor is actively trying to sell out the other survivors to a killer, a killer giving someone the hatch definitely doesn't fall into that category.
