Your experience against/with the new killer so far
Comments
-
Unbalanced slop. Can't dodge attacks. Get hit from 10 feet away. I had to 180 the killer 3 times to get away.
14 -
That's exactly how it already was 3 weeks ago. He undeniably is an S tier killer, dunno how BHVR thought he deserved that pallet vault speed buff and 0 nerfs.
10 -
After match after match against this killer, the only counter I have managed to think of is…
Genrush as fast as possible because he can down anyone in less than 20 seconds if they're ever out of position or aren't spamming every single resource on the map as recklessly as they can, because it's the only way to actually slow the Ghoul down. If he sees you, he injures you, even if you're behind objects or over pallets and windows. If you're injured, he slingshots to you and downs you because the cooldown is less than 2 seconds. If you try to play pallets or windows, his power vaults over them quickly enough that he'll usually catch you before you can do another loop around.
There's really nothing you can do against this killer. Even Blight has to respect level geometry and pallets but the Ghoul will just ignore these things whenever he feels like it. Like Nurse.
And every single one of them is running all the gen-slowdown and aura perks they can.
So I think I can conclude that these have been some of the worst experiences I've ever had in DbD.

Can you help me figuring out why im getting hit through walls?
On anything else im willing to give it a lot of time, but that one feels incredibly cheap to play against.
7 -
I'm also getting hit trough walls, behind obstacles while out of killers line of sight. The most bullfrog one was when I just played Hawkins and got hit trough upper floor while being kn the first dloor below killer. At firsr I thougvt it was just lagg, but after that bullfrog Hawkkn's incident, it can't be just lagg.
7 -
Sorry but I'm using new phone and not hitting all the correct letters when typing.

I'd rather Kaneki be his current design (needing to intelligently slide to cut off/block paths to get downs) rather than what you're proposing. Kaneki puts a unique spin on being an M2/M1 killer. It's also fine for there to be a killer that punishes holding W.
He's fine as-is.
-16 -
I'm fine with a killer that punishes holding W, my problem is that he can make it impossible just to get to a tile.
Compare him to, for example, Singularity.
Singularity can also close large distances and get right up on top of the survivor.
However, Singularity needs to work really hard to be able to do this. He has to place cameras, tag you, maintain consistent line of sight for him to be able to teleport to you. He also has to worry about EMPs messing with his power. And his reward for doing all of this is that he teleports behind you, and you get enough space that you should be able to make it to a tile unless you're in a truly enormous deadzone.
The Ghoul just injures you for free (which isn't a problem in itself) and after that he can cut you off and cancel power to M1 you if you're trying to reach a tile to start looping him at. Like not aggressively holding W, just trying to reach the nearest tile. If there are multiple pallets in close proximity, then this isn't an issue, but if there's not then he's really oppressive.
4 -
You and I must be getting the same team mates as this has been my experience today. I've been left on hook to second stage or even death way too many times. Tunnelling hasn't been an issue thankfully.
0 -
i think that people need more time to learn how 2 counter him. Cuz like every killer on release dudes will beg to nerf him very fast.
But kaneki is an atomic bomb that should be learned, or devs think to kill fast, or its just their design to make killer as strong as possible to people to buy them, and then just nerf them to not causing any problems to the majority of players.Post edited by LordHeXaGoN on-12 -
As killer:
Game 1: clunky as #########. Got adept tho.
Game 2: Stull clunky to use, but getting used to the dashes.
Game 3: It was better to test the mechanics. It's super weird that using the ability on the survivor slows you down way more than it slows them. Also, it's super weird that it does nothing to healthy survivors...
2 -
The first hit is practically always guaranteed and feels quite unrewarding, is it skillfull to hit from 30 metres with the indicator of the open mouth acting as an auto-aim? Not to mention the fact that the hitbox is tremendously large enough to catch is survivors behind walls.
I also don't understand why the devs always fall into the same mistake: the killer has very little cooldown after using the leap, it's a scenario we've seen dozens of times with other killers. So far the survivor side fun is not expected.
I honestly thought 3 weeks was enough time to certify that this killer was already strong enough during the PTB, the fact that he even came out with buffs and 0 nerfs is quite worrying.Post edited by Jacknalls_Paw on11 -
how were they toxic?
1 -
it is actually the opposite, everything seems OP the first day when something new is out, like what happened with unknown's UVX and and then after some days everyone was able to dodge it effortlessly. I see it happen everytime in Twitch stream the day of the realase of a new killer…
I have to try it myself first and then try to go against him to judge, for the time being I've seen games where the killer seemed very strong and games where he felt like a trappless Trapper :/
-7 -
Not op or easy. Not a killer main either. Do we just call anyone who says something positive about a killer a killer main now? I'd rather a discussion than just ad hominem attacks.
-4 -
Does this mean that essentially your counter play is reliant upon map RNG or specific perks? Like if the map has more dead space than jungle gyms, or if the jungle gyms are very spread out and far from one another then admittedly there is no counter play? Do you recommend bringing a map to ensure there’s something to work with?
I’m still learning how to face him. I think it’s too soon to have an opinion yet. I’ve had about 6 games so far, and around 25 games likely I will have solidified my opinion. Right now it’s at 1 4man escape and 5 4ks.
I am trying to put on builds specifically to counter him, I have on Sprint Burst, MFT, Windows to make sure I don’t accident go to dead jungle gyms, and Resilience. Do you recommend a different build? Looking to learn.
Thanks 🙏

My experience thus far has been mixed. Currently only playing surv and funneling the BPS into Kaneki, and escaping about 1/3 of the time. All solo games.
Games varying from fun to getting absolutely pantsed. Most of the escapes were against players who didn't seem to have a mechanical feel for him at all. Players that seem to have a handle on him (I assume many played in the PTB) have been borderline oppressive.
Personally, I have dealt with most of them pretty well (relatively speaking). It's definitely not a situation where I get hit with his power every time. Other than a few, I have been able to make them miss pretty consistently. But those few…they're hard to deal with.
And yeah, some "how the hell?" hits for sure, but no worse than what I've experienced at the hands of Wesker or Huntress.
That said, I'm going to wait until the player base gets more adjustment time. It's a fairly unique power.
1 -
i ve copied your tips, and get into over post. I hope youre dont mind. And i added 5th point from myself.
5.Use Made for this, this makes kanekis power less effective at chasing if you are marked and let you connect loops more effectively. So where he usual gets down, he cannot/
-3 -
I don't think he's OP but needs some tweaks. Like, I don't understand why he's able to use his power to injure survivors behind walls, tress, giant boulders, etc. Just glad he can't down people that way too because that would not be fun to play against at all.
4 -
I wish it wasn’t automated with his hit. He was a 110 killer and they added some sort of function to down along with maybe nurse type cooldowns
0 -
- I just want to know if it's normal for the killer to be able to hit you from behind walls/rocks. Is it a bug or a character ability?
6 -
He's definitely a "play injured" killer like Legion. He can't really do a huge amount to you once you're injured, it's just regular looping at that point.
I really don't understand the complaints of him being OP. I've been dealing with him fine.
-11 -
I will never complain about a huntress hatchet hitting me around a corner ever again because what the heck is this killer
24 -
Im guessing it has to be a "bug" or at least "Not an intended action". Which will just need to have a fix.
Changes, nerfs and buffs are to be expected. His locking on survivors grabbed, making them stationary, just sucks. It has to be changed or it seems so weird. He is loopable, i wouldnt say OP, just depends how good the killer is. As killer, he is fun to play leaping around the place, but not super easy. Good skins and Mori.
There is a lot of positives to The Ghoul. Just need time to adjust and survivors learn to counter play.
3 -
THE GOOD
- Insane gen pressure
- Map crossing potential
- "Kaneki Tax" (Put simply - Free hits)
- Bump sliding around tiles like whoa
- Rize <3
THE BAD
- …
- They're 100% going get nerfed into the dirt
In all seriousness. The Ghoul is incredibly powerful atm. I fear what might happen to them seeing how upset surv players were day one. Balance aside - playing as the ghoul is nice and I even played a match as surv to see what it's like going against (I just got sick of the queue times). The killer I got wasn't that good and still wiped us how ever it was still pretty fun navigating while having to account for the human slingshot appearing next to you every 15 seconds. I hope that whatever happens, everyone ends up satisfied. I would hate to see the ghoul get gutted like skerchant but just based on survivor players initial reaction… It's not looking good
10 -
My killer experience is not really that good, everyone is running mft, resilience and sometimes hope. So getting the down feels pretty difficult.

I've only played several survivor games so far and watched Bronx for couple hours playing as Ghoul. I haven't bought the killer. He feels a bit too oppressive. Games I've played he just quickly dominates the matches out of about 10 matches only 2 survivors escaped. 1 via door and other hatch. Mostly getting the 4k with only 1 or 2 gens getting done. Other than just calling out for nerfs i got a few whys?
From watching the killer's PoV (Bronx) landing his power seems too forgiving and very hard to avoid for survivors. Why does he even have the reticle when aiming his power when no other killer has one?
Should he really be allowed to cancel his power mid dash for a very quick M1?
Can't down with power, but wouldn't he be fine if he was %110 considering he can close the gap so quickly on survivors? If they're not already at a loop or tile your just dead.
Why does he not have a fatigue after using his power? Probably the only killer in the game that doesn't have one and he has insane mobility.
I know it's still too early, but I'm thinking he's potentially S tier along side Blight and Nurse.
10 -
Its because the animation doesn't line up with the actual attack.
The attack is hitscan, meaning that it travels instantly, but if you have a tiny part of your arm or head or something exposed, it counts as a hit.
They intentionally did this because the killer would be extremely hard to play on console otherwise. And as part of that, the 1st hit is easy, and the 2nd is not, due to the fact that he can't actually down with his power.
-11 -
Ive been playing only solo Q as killer Queues are..awful, I can safely say im mixed about him.
- Strong B+ Tier to somewhere in A
- Suffers from the Wesker effect (so fun that everyone plays him; Survs burned out of VSing. [me included tbh])
- I do enjoy that holding W isnt the best thing facing him (cause oml thats boring)
- i dont love how he can just cancel power and seemingly insta M1 you tho.
also not like anyone cares but heres my playtime surv vs killer
0 -
The first few matches we (team of 4) really enjoyed Kaneki. Watching him leap was amazing and he's a great looking character. However after an almost 5 hour stream and every killer was Ken we were over him. Yes every killer Every match was Ken smh! I get the excitement I really do I was excited as well. However that's a long time to play against the same killer regardless of which killer it is.
1 -
This killer is more fun to face than Wraith and huntress so it's a win to me!
-2 -
This killer is hot garbage to verse, one of the most unfun killers ever released: tremendous mobility great for porxy camping and tunneling, free hits galore with no actual counterplay and zoning…. Days won't change these fundamental facts: people are already dc'ing when versing Ghoul which is unheard of on the day of a new release… Stop gaslighting, it's not matter of time, it's matter of actual balance changes.
10 -
The entire game is dependent on map RNG. That's not something you can hold against the new killer. Yes, your build is perfectly suited to play against him. You want to reach strong, reliable areas and Sprint Burst and MFT help you do that (MFT also helps you loop more consistently with the bonus movement speed after he hits you with his power)
-3 -
Every single killer in the game other than Nurse suffers from high pallet density maps, this does not justify how strong the Ghoul is.
Sprint Burst will not save you if you get grabbed by their power, since it stops you dead in your tracks and wastes the entire speed boost.
"Just bring MFT" is not a reasonable excuse, since MFT is not that useful against the majority of other killers unless you're doing something like MFT/WGLF to punish sluggers. As someone who actually ran that build for months ever since the slugging video dropped, I had to really try to get value out of it against killers who were playing normally.
8 -
Yeah, after more time playing against them.
They get very questionable hits, I'm talking the survivor will be fully behind walls, boulders, I've seen people get hit while falling down on the Toba vault.
Like the poster above me, @Zakon05 I had to completely remove exhaustion from my builds. I was doing good with Sprint Burst at first, but the more I played and experimented against them - he would completely shut down my Lithe. You'd Lithe, make some distance, they'd spam to bite you, and you lose distance on your Lithe as you're stuck in the bite animation.
I wouldn't be surprised if Kaneki has the best mobility to move from one side of the map to the other - I still think indoors maps, especially Lery's is good against him as it's great for hiding, breaking LOS, and prevents him from seeing you all the time (without aura reading).
I think the build I have settled on when going against him is Distortion (many have Lethal Pursuer, BBQ, or FTTE), Empathetic Connection (I've been playing soloq and it allows survivors to not sandbag me and get heals), Iron Will (for more stealthy plays and risk taking), and Made For This (obviously to help myself in chase when I get in the mending state). They still get questionable hits and my post from earlier was still early on, but the hits that they get they should not be hitting realistically. Additionally, you get no time to react if Kaneki injures you, vaults over a pallet, and hits you immediately after.
I suspect more stealth oriented builds will come out, along with Kaneki using Genetic Limits or Mindbreaker to prevent MFT (perhaps).
8 -
I've also noticed when I said I used Off The Record earlier - many and I mean many Kaneki will tunnel off rip. As soon as that notification goes off, many will traverse right back to hook as it's quite easy to tunnel - as Kaneki eats through endurance anyways.
It's made me completely remove OTR from my builds after seeing people (and I) getting tunneled, hence my shift to Iron Will.
I actually do not mind my build at all! But I can see the complaints and I would absolutely rank him amongst the best in the game due to the snowball effect, map traversal, shutting down loops by jumping and cutting you off, negating exhaustion, etc.
I've been getting more survivors playing with MFT, Iron Will, DH, and even some odd Urban Evasions here and there lol.
5 -
I honestly would rather face any other killer than The Ghoul. I even joked with my friends earlier that I'd take a Pinhead any day of the week. 😂
I got a Huntress yesterday and the server crashed, load into another game, I get Kaneki again. ☠️
I think I've gotten the hang of it and my build is versatile against other killers anyways, I also just BNP one gen, and use my toolbox on the other. I couldn't use a medkit with a syringe at all yesterday due to him traversing back to hook to tunnel.
3 -
I'm responding to people so much, but I completely disagree here.
Yes, if you have Iron Will and you're playing stealthy - 100% it's doable, but at the same time if you are not healing and you're caught in the open - it's hard to him to get off of you.
You're injured, Kaneki finds you, you're back on hook as you have to lean into stealth against this killer anyways. Outdoor maps allow them to traverse freely and find people by simply jumping around.
It's good to heal if you're already hooked, no point in staying injured all game as yes, they will leap to you, but they will immediately shut you down as you're one tap all game due to not healing.
5 -
I still feel he's unfair. He can camp a hook from across the board. I have not found any valid counter. O changed my build and MFT with any exhausted perk will do but you again you shouldn't have to carry a perk to counter a killer like this. There really is no looping unless you find a place he can't Spiderman to. Three jumps and he's across a board with no cool down.
I feel he is great against SWFs yes however soloq is getting stomped and a lot of low to mid players stopped playing.
Also to note a lot of players in soloq are just defeated right now. They are just giving up against any killer.
Also that argument about Magneto is invalid, you can't compare and people just didn't play the game.
5 -
Every team I've been on who's lost to him would have lost to Wraith or Legion. That's how low level they were playing, with almost zero gen efficiency or understanding of the UI. The teams I've been with who know what they're doing, they might throw it in the end but they finish 5 gens when the killer has like 4 hooks.
Kaneki is a threat in the 1v1 for sure. If you're used to punishing Demogorgon or Wesker for their really long miss cooldowns, you'll need to give yourself a bit more leeway, because his cooldown is quite fast. But even with his insane mobility, he lacks the map pressure. He just has a big scary terror radius, good chase and injuring potential, and not much else.

I feel like that big TR is working well for Kaneki; you can't spawn in afk and go to the bathroom against him and expect to win you need to actually play but if half your team is spooked by the TR(understandable, since he's fast) them nothing will get done.
Thats what I think, anyway. I play with self care enjoyers+ people spooked by TR so needless to say this killer is indeed Wraith tier
-1 -
I feel like the new killer has a very fun power to use, especially for map traversal. The Ghouls are fast, and it seems like they'd take a few matches to completely warm up to. My sample size is still small, but this is my summary of The Ghoul.
I versed a different variety of survivors. One casual team, one Seal Team, and some in between.
Against the casual team, I absolutely obliterated them, and then proceeded to spend time with the last two survivors alive to learn how the power functioned. Seems like the best way to traverse the map is to use the first longer dash, and then cancel the power prematurely.Against the "in between" team, I had a fairly relaxed match, and I did not feel that much stronger than other killers with higher mobility. Maybe Wesker-like, but if you find yourself on an unfavorable loop, just leave the area and go after someone else.
Brutal Strength is really good on this killer tbh.And against the Seal team, I had a very bad match. Those who knows how to run the tiles properly can be really hard to catch up to. But catching them out in the open is a guaranteed hit/down. My takeaway from this match is to stick to gen-patrol, since splitting up gens against The Ghoul is the best counter, bar none.
One more takeaway point is definitely maps. Bigger, and more open maps are definitely stronger for this killer. The Borgo maps in particular is probably this killer's best realm, alongside Coldwind. Then you have maps like the Swamp, where I felt like there was too much clutter in the way to really take advantage of the power.
3 -
I just hold w against them and just continue predropping the pallet towards them.
The pallet helps to prevent them from instantly downing you, yes they can vault over it but it creates space between you and Kaneki.
I think Quick and Quiet, Lightweight, and even Fixated are great towards him. I lost him so many times on indoor maps when switching to these types of builds - outdoor maps are trickier, but that's why I choose to use Iron Will and get healed so I'm not one tap - I do gens when I know I can't feasibly get healed because I'm not gonna run around trying to find a teammate to heal me.
I actually preferred playing with soloq than my SWF team, LOL.
When I went to play with soloq, granted I was playing very late at night (6-7 am), so people started to transition to stealth builds making it easier for me to deal with Kaneki. I think a very big problem is the fact that he shuts down exhaustion when biting - but regardless I think another issue is people being highly dependent on DH. I hardly saw people DC or kill themselves - but I go play with a non-stacked SWF? People kill themselves and don't even try.
I was playing with my SWF yesterday and I got tired of the backseat gaming they would do, yet still rely on DH even if Kaneki renders it useless (you're mending most of the time anyways) unless you're pairing it with MFT.
Distortion is quite versatile as I was able to do stuff against a Nurse without an exhaustion perk as she had NTH and couldn't find me when kicking the gen - you have to stealth against Kaneki or else you're just going to be hunted all game.
1 -
I wouldn't say his mobility is the best, definitely weaker than Blight.
Actually I think Ghoul is just another version of Blight.
In between loops, everything he does, Blight can do it better, as he can directly down you with its power.
In looping, IMO it's even harder to use his power than Blight, mainly because and you can't really control your travel distance at will. It's extremely clunky to the point where it's almost up to chance where you'll land with your power. I don't think I have catch anyone with it yet. Though I agree the vaulting is quite good, similar to Houndmaster in a sense.
So the counterplay to Ghoul is actually pretty similar to Blight. Do your best to loop the tiles, and run behind the obstacles when running between tiles.
Personally I think the only OP aspect about him is the first hit injury. It's extremely strong as we know, so I don't think they'll keep it TBH. The cancel thing can stay, as it requires a lot of skill to pull it off.
-5 -
Another thing with the proxy camping is when someone goes for a save he 100% guarantees a hook trade, as he autoaims to the rescuer who patiently waits for the animation lock to end and then decides to unhook or run. Like this is the closest to facecamping other than tombstone myers actually facecamping. No actual skill / aim / prediction required.
8 -
I never want to see hit scan ability like this again, unless we are going to also give Pig auto-target/auto-lock Ambush and other killers it too. It just doesn't work with an asymm horror imo. This is not a team-shooter/fps environment. I don't think DBD when playing this killer, I think either Marvel Rivals or some Shonen Jump based action/shooter game released by Bandai Namco. That's where i'd expect to see it, not in DBD.
11 -
The thing with this is Killer mains are taking advantage of this and that's why every killer is the Ghoul. They're straight mining bloodpoints because this killer is the biggest piece of dog slop I've ever seen in DBD. I've had issues with new updates before, but I swear I've never seen it this horrible before. This is not even enjoyable to play as survivor.
The only way I'm able to grind bloodpoints is by unhooking my mates. This killer is single handedly the greatest threat to global security. If this killer existed in real life, we would all be doomed.
6 -
that's because of hitboxes kaneki didn't hit you through a wall he already hit you his power has a delay because he has to travel there. that's how all killer powers work not just kaneki
0 -
I do say sometimes you should shift W from your gen against a killer if you hear their TR, but that's if they're clearly not chasing anyone else, in other words looking for someone to chase, including you. They chase someone else, just run straight back to the gen. At least with Kaneki, there's a reason to fear his TR, because he's quite a threat in chase. But you can't just hide or shift W against every killer who's any threat every time, or like you said the gens just won't get done.
And again, I'd like to hear where I'm wrong. I get a lot of downvotes quite often, even on the more "centrist" things that I say. For example, we agree on Kaneki being Wraith tier in the sense that he's just good at mobility, which can be used in chase, but we don't consider that OP, and so we get disapproving looks. But when push comes to shove, crickets. And then he's just gonna get nerfed anyway. It's so annoying.
-5 -
i'm bad at survivor so i need to play more and get good
