What's preventing current-gen consoles from getting 120?
PS5 and Xbox Series X can both handle 120, even VRR and PS5 Pro can easily handle it even better. Why aren't we at 120 already? PC players have a massive frame rate advantage, in some cases as much as quadruple the frames per second. Does PC cap at 120 or go beyond? Meanwhile all consoles are as low as 10 to 60.

I think it's just not a priority for BHVR. I'd love 120fps for consoles, but especially would like to see 240 fps or uncapped fps for PC. PC is still capped at 120, which is sad because plenty of players could take advantage of a higher framerate cap. But I don't think there's enough demand for them to bother implementing it.

That makes sense, but I'm gonna keep asking. I played a few 120 titles, and the difference is vast. I can only imagine DbD at 120. I shouldn't be too surprised, the devs promised Ray Tracing and other "next-gen enhancements" that never materialized. I remember an interview Matt did, and he mentioned how the blood shines during moonlight and that they wanted to bring that. Dbd looks visually dated, too. Behaviour was so quick to launch PS5 and Xbox Series upgrades at launch, I was optimistic that we would see them jump to 120 and some enhancements for PS5 Pro. I'm disappointed.

The fact that it doesn't even run perfectly on pc, especially not at the moment. Dbd is horrible optimized and if it's already inconsistent on pc I don't even wanna imagine how it's running on consoles like this xD

A friend told me even on pc dbd is cap at 60 even if you have 120 settings on and your pc is fast. Can someone confirm please. Cause a 4060 rtx graphics card and every game.cept dbd shows pretty and I have all the highest possible settings. Though it can be my monitor I confess sinces its not 4k like my tv which dbd shows way prettier on my ps5.

In the past you need to edit some config files now its a button you can click in your settings menu of the game. settings —> graphics—> FPS limit

You aren't at 120 because your console can't handle DBD at 120 frames a second reliably or stabley. Join the PC gaming side or accept the limitations that come with buying prebundled locked hardware.
I own an iphone even though android is far more open source. You gotta understand console gaming comes with pros (exclusive titles) and big cons (low fps, can't do 240/144/120 etc) for most games.

It's less about the performance of the consoles and more about how DBD was originally coded, plus its iffy optimization.
Back in May 2019 they set a goal of getting their game to run at 60 fps across all platforms. About a year and a half later they fessed up they just couldn't do it. Not because of the capabilities of a PS4 or Xbox1, but a resource bottlenecking issue that apparently was insurmountable.
Our PC cousins also feel this because only the absolute strongest of machines brute force the game to run smoothly. The mid and lower end PC's get the microlags and stutters as well, and all platforms can see this game is an unusually voracious gobbler of resources. Despite years of tinkering and even an engine upgrade it's still the same coding underneath it all from 2016.

That is not true. I can play more demanding games at 120 FPS on PS5 Pro than in DbD. 120 is possible, and would likely require a resolution nerf to reach 120 or up to 120. And VRR exists for the reasons you outline.

@KatsuhxP Yes this makes sense. Did the move to UE5 not improve things for them to be able to further optimize the game and improve the res/FR?

Well probably, but they didn't do it very much until now then. Depending on map, killer and general mood of dbd you will have framedrops from time to time. I play on highest setting you can to be fair even tho I know low would run much better (I think I heard medium is actually the most consistent fps-vise), but that still shouldn't be a reason to drop - dbd's requirements are really low, and I can play re4 as example with 120 fps and some of the highest graphics xD

I must've missed this, but yeah, that makes sense. I'm still hopeful we can get some improvements. I'd love to see 120 or even RT that they promised over five years ago.

I hope we get 120, but I would also be happy with better visuals on the PS5 Pro. I wish they would say. Did they upgrade the game for Switch 2?

Because the game is incredibly poorly optimized, for whatever reason.
A game that looks like a PS3 game shouldn't struggle to hit 60 FPS on modern hardware.
Im half convinced that's why they got rid of the Fog.

I don't know, but you're are asking for quite much for the fact it doesn't even run on 120 consistantly in general yet. Better graphics would probably kill the fps even more haha xD
(just kidding, with the right optimization they could get that easily, the graphics aren't too costing in terms of ressources xD)

Those running DBD even on powerful PC's can notice this, as the game is an unusually voracious gobbler of resources. Especially for what the game does and looks like graphically.
Despite years of patches and even an engine upgrade, the base game underneath remains Blueprints with C++ sause on top. Now combine all that with iffy optimization and memory leaks all its existence, and here we are.

with the 4060 rtx you should stick to 1080p. The 4060 only has 8gb of vram. Your monitor needs to be atleast 120hz to go to 120 fps. Your frame rate can’t outpace your monitor’s refresh rate .
