Overcharge on Freddy?

I was under the impression this was a strong perk for Freddy, since it added a regression penalty to the generators every time someone failed a skill check on the gen to snap out of the dream world. It would help slow the game down by slowing generator progress. However, since I've been using it, I've had people tell me it's a mistake to use Overcharge on Freddy, regardless of the regression penalty, because it just guarantees that survivors will snap out of the dream world when they tap the first gen they see. Since they are going to fail their next skill check to snap out of the dream world anyway, I just thought the regression was a bonus.

Can any Freddy main weigh in on this strategy?

That's the strategy i was using. I don't know why i was second guessing myself. Thanks for the reassurance!

If I know they've got overcharge or suspect it since it's such a good perk I go far away to a non worked on gen.

I used aura perks with my Freddy when I mained him. I'm now maining Plague because i'm tired of Freddy but here are the perks. Bitter murmur, because they're getting thee gens regardless if you're right next to them. BBQ & chili, helps find people. Discordance, Really good (like a free BBQ & chili). Last perk just helps counter self-heal at high tier Nurses Calling.

@DudeDelicious Thanks for the video example. Franklins is one of my favorite perks and i unfortunately dont have it yet for Freddy. I have been using Huntress Lullaby on Freddy and the extra 6%regression is nice :) I think the problem i had was not being disciplined enough to keep hitting the gens before chasing. Going to give it some more tries and see what comes of it. Based on the responses ive gotten, it looks like i was on the right track and shouldnt have let survivors make me second guess my strategy

Thats how you get played by Freddy.

Overcharge isn't difficult especially considering it has a sound warning.

Its only good on the 2 Killers that affect skillchecks in some way and even then its niche.

9/10 Freddys I played against used overcharge. I have yet to not get a 4man escape against a freddy and I'm not even red rank. I dunno what kind of survivors you guys go against where that works.

@DudeDelicious ??? The whole point of those perks are to find them to put them to sleep. Also if you're suggesting that those perks won't work because you should be chasing or they should already be asleep; alot of the time they sneak around the map or just troll you because Freddy's power is SUPER strong. It's also (atleast for me) stupid hard sometimes to see survivors in that fog that he has. I don't know to be honest because when I played Freddy I was just trying to think of the movies and not the game to avoid the fact that he's bad.

overcharge on freddy is like a tradeoff.

you give them the ability to wake themselves easily, but also they will take down 10% of the whole gen progression. they can escape the dreamworld fast, by revealing their location and get a gen down by a lot.

dont forget you can always just sleep them again, which will lead to them failing another overcharge skillcheck.

people who tell you its dumb to run the perk are usually also the ones who dont understand how it works. all they see is the easy dreamworld escape (somethimes even mid chase), but dont even recognize the damage they have done.

Your only problem was to care about the survivors opinion. The only validation we get for our stategy is the number of dead bodies we pile on. Keep it up.

Personaly, I like to keep taps on all the sleeped survivors for as long as posible.

@DudeDelicious yes, thats exactly what i mean.

and in the end chat they will tell you how stupid you are for using overcharge, while not even realizing what they did there...

And that was why i started this post in the first place. I let someone convince me i was stupid for running Overcharge. This is why i love this community. I asked an honest question and got a whole mess of good advice! Thanks again!
