What to do with Dark Theory?
So, I'll get straight to the point - Dark Theory is a joke of a perk and a lazy design.
You have this intriguing flavor text, talking about the paranormal, and the perk boils down to...
...running 2% faster.
I want it to have a more unique effect, but I have no idea what it should be. Should ghosts spawn around the boon? Should you get a readout of the entire map after being in the boon for x seconds?
What unique effects would you give it?

blocks your boons from being snuffed for x amount of time.

rework it
And instead make it like the perk vigil
So whenever survivors step into the booms range they recover from exhaustion or any other status effect faster

Yeah, I actually have issues with that effect being part of a boon, since you have 2 results:
1. its too small of an effect, making it equally useless even when stacked with Vigil(since Vigil can be stacked)
2. its too big of an effect, making it too strong especially when stacked with Vigil(since Vigil can be stacked)I did the quick maths on it, and assuming 2-4 Vigils, 35% is too much for the boon, on a map like Hawkins you can have the boon upstairs, use Fixated and literally infinite the killer. But for 1 or 0 Vigils, you need a minimum of 40% to make the boon be worth it.
I would actually do something differently:
Allow survivors to lose exhaustion at ~65% rate while running inside the boon radius. Even 4 Vigils means you need to walk for 25 seconds in chase, which is hard to do inside the radius of a boon, the downside is that you cant 99% sprintburst and enter the radius because its forced to trigger and its actually an interesting boon to play around with.1 -
I suggested in the past to increase the haste to 3 %, add 5-10% vault speed to it and an exhaustion recovery while running at a 50% rate.
In general boon should have a 32m radius and if they don’t want to buff all boons, they could add a radius increase to the perk.
If we wanna rework it completely, I would like creating a passage between two portals like in haunted by daylight. You would have to bless a totem to upen up a portal near it and you can open up to two portals.

Hmm… remove oblivious and prevent you from being affected by it while inside the boons radius, and make you see the killers aura while both you and the killer is within the boons range?

It's difficult:
In my opinion Boon: Illumination should also show you the aura of your teammates which would make the perk and soloq slightly better. So, this option is already gone.
In case of Dark Theory: My only idea is something like this: Boon: Dark Theory can only be used two times on two different totems. As long as this totem stays, the passive regression of every generator is reduced by +20% if the killer kicks the generator - so it wouldn't affect Ruin or regression from PainRes. Within the range of the Boon, survivors can see the generators that start to regress. However, then Rookie Spirit needs a rework (it needs it anyway but you know).

I can't help but chuckle at imagining that Dark Theory never gets buffed; the perk would get so much worse by denying your team proper haste boosts

Actually a good idea right here

Nice idea!
I am a bit hesitant, since Vigil is already good enough. It would depend on the numbers, but most people would still run Vigil over a boon because it's completely passive and covers more status effects.

Dark theory is going to need a buff or rework soon, since they are removing hindered and haste stacking, which is going to make Dark Theory pretty much Shattered Hope's twin in terms of how pointless they are to run.

which is going to make Dark Theory pretty much Shattered Hope's twin in terms of how pointless they are to run
You are right with that one lol.
The haste was always bad, and unhealthy for the game, so i'd rather see a new effect.

what if we make dark theory 50% faster and make it stack with vigil
And if the combo doesn’t end up being problematic then it’ll be good
But if it does then I guess remove the synergy

Boon version of undying

Would be a nice side effect, tbh.
Considering boons can be reapplied forever, making a full perk dedicated to it seems a bit lacking.
However, adding it alongside another effects would be great.

yeah that would be cool too. Or hear me out evil survivor brain boon version of hex penti 😈 probably would be op but a girl can dream

Update: With the 8.7.0 PTB, Dark Theory recieved a laughable 1% buff. It's 3% now.
Anyway, still useless, idea bad, new groundwork needed!

The issue with Dark Theory is that it is a small gab between niche and strong. Giving Dark Theory a bigger haste buff might not be problematic on some maps but on maps like The Game, Badham, or Midwich it can become really problematic. Also, the weaker killers will suffer more from it than the stronger one. A similar issue have Invocationperks - currently, they are really niche perks but can become really strong or unhealthy with some buffs. Then, there is also the problem that SWF will make greater use of these perks than SoloQ and the last thing this game needs are perks that are good in SWF but useless in SoloQ.

Yeah, and that's exactly why this perk shouldn't be a Haste related one.

Maybe...
But making it reveal the killer constantly would probably cause an uproar of negativity towards it.

Dunno, Wiretap does pretty much the same thing but people don't seem to mind.

That's....
A really neat idea! I like it. It's pretty unique.

I think extending the range would be a more beneficial change - people have talked about extending ranges of Boons.
Generally speaking, Boons are used for resetting — the strongest boon being Circle of Healing and Shadowstep behind it. Most people do not loop within a boon's radius as it can be snuffed out, so extending the range would be beneficial as it would allow people to not loop directly onto the boon.
I don't know of specific changes you could do with Shadowstep without verging into other aspects of perks, like a Quick and Quiet wouldn't work in the context of a Shadowstep.
Extending ranges would potentially cause people to use more boons, but again - the problem is the time sunk using them versus doing a gen. - I wouldn't increase/decrease the time it takes to boon, but a generalized range would be nice instead of the small radius it has now.

Looks like my funny meme idea of trolling with Dark Theory isn't off the table...
Gosh, plz nobody main this perk when the new survivor drops that would be tragic...(not joking)
