Skull Merchant is Fine—Survivors Just Want Easy Wins
Drones aren’t OP—you just refuse to disable them. Survivors whine when a killer isn’t another braindead M1 like Trapper, but the second a power requires thinking, it’s "annoying" or "broken."
Her kit isn’t that strong. You can avoid drones, break them, or just not run into them.If she’s dominating, it’s because your team fed her zones instead of playing smart.
Truth is, survivors don’t hate Skull Merchant—they hate having to adapt.
Edit: Just want to say thank you to everyone that commented on this post! I had to make a post in some sort of forum about a controversial topic and see how a community reacts for a college assignment. Being part of the Dead By Daylight community since 2017 I knew this was the perfect place to try this. I appreciate everyone who commented and I hope no sort of heated debate ends up happening.

Honestly after the hindered/haste changes I think she'd probably be fine now un nerfed, that was the main issue people had with her lol
maybe make it so the skull trap doesnt perma hinder but does it on each scan for a few seconds.0 -
Didn't they say clear and loud they kill switched SM to make her super weak until rework ?

I am asking because I am not aware of the other problems. I remember people saying she was weak but basically only strong for holding 3 gen.
People were actually complaining about other stuff except gen holding ?

If you look at the recent design preview the frustrations are mentioned in the original post for example, a lot of people felt her debuffs/buffs she got for getting scanned were annoying to play against for how little input she needed to get the reward.

Oh ok good to know. For me the 3 gen chess SM was so abnoxious it kind of drown the other aspects of the killer so I didn't pay attention. 👍

The downvotes there don't really say much. We don't have a way of knowing what the people doing the downvoting are thinking. They could disagree with what the OP is saying, they could just be annoyed at something and be prone to throwing some downvotes out, they could indeed be someone who played survivor against SM a lot and had bad memories of typical playstyles used with that killer. It's also possible that people who mainly play killer are downvoting for various reasons. Most of us also don't just play killer or survivor. So I think we can't say much about what 'survivors' are thinking. There are other possibilities as well. Downvotes tell us almost no useful information and don't serve much purpose on forums. They're kind of like a way to pretend to get information.
If someone posts a contrasting opinion, and then that specific critique response gets a lot of upvotes, that's more likely to tell us something about what people are thinking because that 'almost' acts like a way to have an explanation along with an upvote.

The only killers I feel are OP are Ghoul, Venca, Dracula, and Blight (although he's counterable). The reason people hate Skull Merchant is because she camp silently with her stupid drones. I myself don't have an issue playing against her it's just that she has people playing her abusing her silent power. Also they just don't take the time to learn she can be counter able and give up.
I feel it's more player exhaustion on the tunneling and camping playstyles as well. Certain killers/players it's easier to counter and others are just going in expecting this and quit.

yeah I'm hopeful the QoL changes will open ways for more interesting killer powers that don't break the sacrifice game flow.

Theres a difference between strong and annoying. Just because a killer isnt strong doesnt mean theyre not annoying to go against
