Most Played Killers (Last 30 days)
I made this list based on NightLight’s data. Not surprised to see The Ghoul at #1, but was a bit shocked to see these 5 being the least played:
- Demogorgon – 1.17%
- Artist – 1.09%
- Hag – 0.88%
- Skull Merchant – 0.85%
- Twins – 0.74%
What do y’all think of this?

Really, Demogorgon and Artist are less played than Vecna? I see Skull Merchant and Twins more than I see Vecna.

idk but I aint surprised for most of these characters at the bottom. Demo is a bit of a surprise, but the rest make sense
11 -
Demo is outdated sadly and Artist is very boring to play as. At least those are my speculations.
2 -
- Demo is a bottom tier killer
- Artist is also bottom tier and her gameplay is boring (just leave the loop)
- Hag has always been super low and she is trash tier now that survivors can just remove her traps without a flashlight
- Skull merchant was intentionally nerfed to get people to stop playing her (success i guess) and is also why i have refused to spend any money on the game until they fix that.
- Twins has always been one of the lowest played killers.

the main man Vecna isn’t on the bottom 5 let’s go!

Let's also not forget about those game breaking bugs now with the twins

I can't stand playing as Vecna. He's so incredibly weak vs decent survivors. Pretty much any killer that gives survivors free items to use against them is gonna feel that way, except maybe* Xenomorph.

A brand new killer being played in 1 of 5 matches isn't that surprising, even though most seem to have a problem with it.
I'm surprised to see my boy Nemesis so high. I guess people like the feeling of killing alongside the zombies. Twins and Skull Merchant being so low is surprising, based off the ever-present backlash against them. The other 3 of the bottom 5 are stronger than you'd think, but not as strong as others would have you think. But I'm a big advocate for Demogorgon.
And all those killers being played more than Spirit is a bit surprising. Overall, I think those top killers are indicative of which ones are good design and/or fun to play.

His spell menu is clunky as hell on controller. BHVR could just bind each spell to one of the four directions on the directional pad, they line up perfectly, but instead his spell menu is optimized for a M&K. That alone is reason enough not to play him on console.
I'm sad I don't see him much, I love spamming the mimic chest and testing out my skills. (And I need the practice, especially on Switch. It's hard hitting those things with crazy input lag, especially at like 15fps.)

Artist is a bottom tier killer? I mean she's kinda boring but in good hands she's an A tier killer.
But yeah, the rest is pretty accurate. No exaggeration, I think I've faced Twins 2-3 times in the last year. And I don't feel like BHVR is highly motivated to spend resources on them. They're a dead killer.
On a broader note, I think SM's overhaul might signal the end for trap type killers. People don't hate on Trapper because he's so weak, but Hag and SM are the least picked and most generally disliked killers. I'd be surprised if we see any new trap killers in the foreseeable future.
I feel like outside of a dedicated few (very few), the broader community just doesn't have patience or care for macro/strategic gameplay. Though not a trap killer per se, I think it's just a matter of time before we see Singularity drop down toward the bottom as well, despite being quite strong.

That pick rate for Ghoul seems low tbh. Almost every Blood Moon survivor game I've started has been against him. The other day I played 4 blood moon trials and every single one was against Ghoul so I just quit and played RE4 instead
1 -
They are disliked because they are bad. The devs keep nerfing the trap killers into a state of uselessness. The only reason trapper isn't further down is probably because newer players tend to play because, they are newer players and he's basically the face of DBD.

I cannot really explain why Demogorgon is so low. You can say he is weak but same goes for Ghost Face and Myers and these two are popular because they are iconic but Demogorgon is also iconic. There was a big hype when Stranger Things came back and now? I can only speak for myself and say I don't play him because I enjoy other killers more and don't have the time to play more killers.
Artist has a low pick rate because many players play her wrong and think she is weak. The mindset is shutting down loops and that's it. Spam the birds to get info or track survivor and that's it. She has a really high skill floor and ceiling and this makes it difficult for many player to get decent with her or to understand her.
Hag has always a low usage because she is not A chase killer - you play her as an area control killer and this is something many players don't like. In addition, she has also a high skill floor and ceiling but you can not use much of your knowledge for her and what you learn with her, you cannot transfer to other killers. Many things you learn just by playing her.
Skull Merchant got nerfed to the ground. Only the ones who love her, play her.
Twins is actually a really strong killer but many players don't like their long cooldowns, the fact survivors can hold Victor hostage, and the whole slugging part. This killer is also known for many annoying bugs. they also have or get many good skins - having good skins can make a huge difference.

I can explain for Demo at least, since I can speak from the perspective as a Demo main.
They nerfed their Portal addons rather consistently… Leprose Lichen was nerfed to be less of a map-wide universal Aura Reading to only be aura reading during the teleport and only for Survivors within 16-meters of a teleport… keep in mind that Knight can get infinite Blood Warden and Bamboozle with Iridescent Company Banner, and Kaneki can get a map-wide Infectious Fright with Yamori's Mask (which also interrupts actions which makes it busted with DMS or Hex builds).
Portal Sealing Time (PST) Addons (Upside Down Resin, Thorny Vines, Viscous Webbing) were nerfed because their Portal Travel Speed was increased but they provided no basekit changes to sealing speed to supplement which makes Portals far more vulnerable than before. PST Addons were already considered niche and all it really did was make already niche addons more niche and overall worse.
Lifeguard Whistle was rightfully nerfed, it was a busted addon, but it was one of the few things that gave Demo some level of relevancy, and after it was nerfed a lot of people stopped playing them.
Personally as a Demo main, Ive also seen many other Demo mains move onto other Killers since it became clear that alternative playstyles were not allowed and running Barb's Glasses and Black Heart were the only viable way of playing Demo but also have been that way for literal years without any changes… only 4 addons affect Shred, and 2 of which are objectively horrible, and the rest of their addons just get nerfed out of the blue so why bother?
The map geometry for maps is really awful so your Shreds get snagged on loops more often than before. BHVR has been introducing more rounded loops to the game, which Demo struggles on, on top of that they also have been implementing more of those "Ormand" loops which Demo struggles to play around compared to conventional loops since the walls along the sides are shorter and their are often more objects to obstruct Shred LOS.
Their power is simple, but the effectiveness of his power as a whole has been reduced through direct and indirect changes. Demo has been slowly shifting down the tierlists. What was considered an average Killer has started to fall behind as a result. On top of that it does not help that power creep has shifted many Killers forwards a lot, resulting in other dash Killers becoming or naturally being released stronger than Demo. People moved onto Kaneki and Blight, which even after changes remain potent and strong.
They also keep releasing perks that help M1 Killers which is inherently fine but ultimately none of them can be used my Demo because of the nature of their power. The end result in a lot of perks that would be amazing as Demo just dont work for them or can never reasonable be used. This puts Demo in this area where their power is close enough to an M1 Power to need perks like it but far enough away from an M1 to never really get any value from M1-Perks. Unfortunately this comes down to Demo's design and how BHVR refuses to balance M2 Powers to allow for perks to work for both M1s and M2s.
Outside of the License coming back, it's also insanely apparent that Netflix only did it to stop people from complaining, Demo has not gotten cosmetics and despite Demo players pleading to get Blighted Demo, other licenses have been getting Blighted Cosmetics before Demo has.
Also it does not help that Demo has slowly shifted from "character people love and respect" to "character people hate facing" since I consistently get matches were people insist on going next because Demo over time has built up a reputation of being an "M2 Zoner" despite the fact that dozens of other Killers accomplish the same but get more respect for it. Even if I dont "M2 Zone" I still get "-rep"s fairly often for doing so.
So yeah… there is a reason why Demo has dropped in playrate… and despite all of this I still love them because they are the creature.

That doesn't surprise me.
Demo is just outdated. He needs some good quality of life changes and buffs. Specifically around his portals. They also destroyed STBFL which was his best perk.
Artist is boring. The sniping play style IS fun, however it's not really viable against good survivors when they can just locker jump ignoring the whole thing. What's left? Anti-loop crows..which is boring for everyone. She also gets screwed on multi level maps.
Hag is a pub stomper but bad against good players. The trap wipe away nerf hurt her tremendously. They can also just run tap the outside of your traps to trigger them without you getting a hit. She needs buffs. Also it's kind of a boring play style just basically setting up a camp at your 3 gen, down someone, put them in the web, and now just spend the rest the game hook trading.
Skull Merchant they intentionally gutted just to stop people from playing her. They succeeded, she's awful now.
Twins isn't fun to have Victor taken hostage and you're forced to just walk around as an m1 killer with no power. Lots of perks don't work on Victor so your perk variety is limited. A few really good addons and then a ton of really bad ones. Also, lots of bugs.
Most these killers could be fixed or improved but just seem to be ignored.

not surprised on twins . They've been literally broken and unplayable since the ghould patch. Victor gets stuck on a survivor and at that points its ggs

To be honest I run into a lot more Vecnas than any of those bottom five killers. I only ran into an Artist player at the beginning of the year, and into one Twins and two Skull Merchants during the last iteration of Chaos Shuffle, and that was all. No Hag or Demogorgon at all since 2025 started. Vecna isn't /that/ common but I run into one or two every now and then. He was somewhat common in Chaos Shuffle for some reason.

If they ruin Hag, I am revolting.
It's already pitiful to look at the nuked Skull Merchant, and I wouldn't like it if they did it to a killer I actually enjoy.
What should be done with her is a lot of updates to bring her to the modern era. Same goes for Trapper.

Ran into a Hag in my last match. Felt good not having to face countless Ghouls.
Other than that, I also saw a Doctor. I feel like Doc is pretty rare to see as well.
But Demogorgon.. I don't know when I last saw one of them. Probably during Halloween, like half a year ago.
That is probably the last time I saw Artist also.
I ran into Twins not that long ago.
And last I saw Skully was probably around Christmas.0 -
I'm not surprised at all with the bottom ones, well, only Demogorgon surprise me a bit.
Artist - very high learning curve to use properly, not a free starter one.
Hag - boring.
Skull Merchant - currently Tier D after the nerfs, pending rework.
Twins - hard to use properly and boring.

I don't think they'll change Hag, she's too established, as are most of her mains.
I think the SM rework is happening in large part because they feel like they can still salvage a popular killer out of her (and she could then move cosmetics).
But going forward I'd be surprised if we see any new trap killers.

VERY clunky on controller. I also hate how when you get blinded, it stops you from seeing your spell menu as well. He's just not a well designed killer. He can do a lot of cool stuff, but that doesn't equate to being strong.

I'd say that pretty well reflects my personal games with the exception of hunteress don't see her a whole lot these days
DId play against a demo yesterday but that might well have been the first one this year!
Artist is definitely my least seen killer by a long way though I haven't played against a single freddy since his rework either!

Always warms my heart to see my boy Mikey in the top 10.

Leprosy Lichen killed Demo for me.
Others downplayed the addon, or said portals were weak, but this addon turned portals into slowdown. You couldn't ignore them as you can now simultaneously guard totems, camp basement AND patrol gens all at the same time. Agitation was my Ace in the Hole to allow me to play nasty if anybody sent me to Haddonfield.
Sad that that Demo died without getting the respect of a nasty tunneling camper that he was. He was my tryhard killer :(
Unlike Ghoul nobody was playing this. Demo players only used Shred addons :(

Thank you for the explanation even though it was kinda sad :/ Demogorgon deserves some love and an addon update. I feel like he is in a similar situation like Nemesis where his addons are not completly bad like Pyramidheads but also not really good besides a few. I also wish his addons would affect his Shred more than his portals - could be nothing special like applying Sloppy or broken status effect but also cool stuff like after four Shred hits you gain Undetectable for 20 seconds. He has also three addons that do basically the same thing - increasing the duration of Undetectable for 1, 3, or 7 seconds. But also an overall buff - similar to what Dredge and Singularity got.
New skins would also be awesome but I feel like the relationship between Netflix and BHVR might not the best or became bad.
M2 zoning is basically the same like Huntress or Deathslinger can do but slightly better but I think people take this as an excuse to complain about the other side - it is easier to blame the other side for a lost instead yourself.
