What’s your prediction for the upcoming MMR update? Will SBMM finally be removed?
Do you think Behaviour will actually remove SBMM this time, or just tweak the system again?
Or do you think the new system will just separate new players (like under 50–100 games), and then place everyone else into one big messy matchmaking pool, regardless of their skill or performance like the old Grade system?
What’s your honest guess — will they rework it, remove it, or keep it the same with slight changes?

I doubt they'd remove it. Game dev studios are absolutely obsessed with SBMM systems these days despite it just turning matches into frustrating sweat matches. They will probably just adjust the mmr ranges and maybe add a new tier somewhere along the range.

They won't… given how we acted without it on the first place

I have no idea why they'd remove it, that'd be an insane decision. They'll probably just give it a few tweaks, which would certainly be welcome.
Not sure what those tweaks might be, though. Ideally it'd be something to address backfill issues, because that's the biggest problem point with the system as I understand it.

Doubtful. Since the only other option is going back to ranks.
However, the MMR gains and losses could be reworked to utilize emblems in order to gauge how well you are doing during the match. That way, you won't lose or gain MMR based on wins/losses alone.0 -
Yeah… I hate to admit it, but this is probably exactly what’s going to happen.
After a long and tiring day at work or school, all we gamers want is to unwind — not to get even more stressed out by Gaming. I just wish more game studios, including BHVR, focused on fun and casual experiences instead of trying to force everything into a sweaty, competitive mold with SBMM and strict matchmaking systems. Not every Game needs to feel like a tournament.

Highly doubt they'd remove it or radically alter it. Every time they've ever talked about it they seem quite pleased with how things are functioning.
Realistically, I think a game like DbD absolutely needs it.
I guess the largest possible rework is making the MMR more dependent on the overall survivor outcome instead of the heavy focus on the individual death/escape/hatch.
On a more minor level, they could just do something like lengthening the time a bit that it is willing to wait to find a close match before expanding the range it searches.

There are too many problems to expect a significant change:
-Anyone can queue up with their friends and they don't have to share the same skill.
-When someone leaves a lobby they fill up with anyone, creating some of the most unfair matches. My advice is that whenever someone leaves your lobby, you do the same and look for a new match.
-The amount of people with smurf accounts is insane, practically every Epic player is on an injected account that you never know if they have "something else".
-The best players don't usually play to win, they play to troll. It doesn't bother me because I enjoy these matches more than being gen-rushed, but these people lose consciously.

Removal of SBMM only harms everyone, there is zero reason to do it
And making it even more strict will also not an option, as matchmaking time is the most important factor than anything else
I don't even know what to "update" here

They just have to do some adjustments, that's all.

I mean we were supposed to get pinhead and plague tweaks and for now it looks like it's been forgotten. I don't think I will take anything seriously from devs until they actually show it in dev update

If you remove MMR, there will be essentially no change for solo survivor. You'll still consistently get matches where you have to carry the whole team on your back. On killer, maybe it'll be less sweaty, idk. But that's why I'd be against that change, because at best nothing changes, and at worst it becomes even more unpredictable. And this MMR is based (loosely) off kills and escapes. If you don't want killers to just be playing to maximize their kills, change the incentives or the win conditions to be about hooks or something else.
As I've said before, we had an almost perfect MMR system, at least compared to now, when MMR first dropped. I had been winning like crazy with Demogorgon before it dropped, and so when it came I was constantly put against sweaty survivors, until naturally I went to a less sweaty level. When I started winning more again, I went back up. That's how it should work, and it should put players of similar win/loss ratios and hours played with each other. I don't care if we have to wait a minute for queues; we do that anyway right now. I want it to be accurate rather than fast and convenient.

Why would they suddenly remove MMR? Do you really think bhvr scraps their own "big ideas" even if theyre just the worst? No, they will make slight changes and at best it will do something for edge cases. Theyre still completely ignorant on how bad their MMR works. Its totally rdiculous how long they take to change their mistakes at all. After their first iteration of MMR in 2021 everyone told them how bad their idea was. And maybe they will change something about it 4 years later. You cant imagine a company working so slow like bhvr. but hey, theyre still monopolizing a genre, thats enough for them with occasional cash grabs like Tokyo Ghoul.

why would SBMM ever be removed? If anything, it literally needs to be stricter due to how random matchmaking is

Well It's too basic conditions for survivor.
You could have someone thats a rat waiting for hatch that didn't do much at all. MMR up.
Someone that keeps killer busy best part of a match and the rest get out. MMR down.
So dumb!
Simple if 3 only get out all players go up. 2 it stays the same. 1 everyone goes down.
For killers I think MMR carries over to other killers you play. Then maybe pans out I don't know.
Not ideal when you're learning them but there is training offline I guess.
Overall the system doesn't work for me.
I never quit as survivor unless it's clear survivors all wanna crouch in a bush and do nothing whole game.
So why am I put with quitters far too often? I get a good team here and there!
Killer is fine mostly although the better I do the more likely I'm to get a SWF on coms calling out my every move or a bunch of cheaters. I barely even care anymore or I wouldn't play otherwise.

My biggest issues with it is getting backfilled and loaded into an obvious 4 man sweat lobby that other people dodged
Maybe related to point 1 or they factor in hours or killer mmr but I play exclusively solo queue in survivor with probably a 20% escape rate and I get matched against p100 blights and nurses and spirits that 4k at 5 gens frequently. That should never happen in a functioning MMR system

Hatch doesn't make your MMR go up, for the record. It's considered neutral for both the survivor who escaped and for the killer.
As for the second example, it's important to remember any kind of MMR system is an aggregate number, it doesn't go up or down that much based on one single match. That kind of game is typically an outlier, so it shouldn't have too much of an effect on your MMR placement.

Well thats good but people think it does or they wouldn't do it. Me unless its a 1 shot killer I just unhook if 2 are left but a lot of people don't.

I think they probably just want to win and aren't thinking about MMR much in that moment, honestly. The incentive to escape is there regardless.
1 -
I get your point but it's lame if they think a random hatch means they won!
The team lost!
Some people still think Iri 1 is a skill ranking lol
Game should be clearer about things.

My hope is finally showing us our own mmr and changing the criteria it grades by. Mmr rewards too please? Maybe I’m asking for too much.

My prediction is that no matter how well intentioned their changes are, matchmaking will somehow feel even worse and more inconsistent than before, like all previous changes around SBMM. Or, if they put a set of potential changes up for vote/player commentary, players will choose as poorly as they did last time when they voted for "instant queues over game quality".

A better experience for Killer of course.

It's not like it was there in the first place, so it doesn't matter if it's gone. It's the kind of matchup where Freddy's first match after 3 or 4 years of not using it because of the rework, suddenly gets bumped by 3 pts of streamers who have won tournaments before, and runs away without getting a single down.

probably just some tweaking, I’m hoping if you’ve got a decent amount of time as survivor when you pick up killer you don’t get matched with dbd fetus survivors because that felt really bad to go against. I’m not saying you should go against the best immediately but definitely at least people with some amount of hours in survivor. Maybe 500-1000 minimum as a starting point? I just, it felt awful crossing over because yeah as someone with most of my time in survivor it was wayyyyyy too easy.
probably do something similar for killers with a significant amount of time crossing over to survivor.
Nobody with a significant amount of play time should be matched up with the bottom picking up the other side. Too much in game knowledge that doesn’t translate well to starting skill point.
like if you have minimal hours in either side fair enough.

I also hope we get actual separate killer mmr. Currently I can get on a killer I've basically never played and be facing groups of all multi thousand hours each. Makes it very hard to learn. The pull of the killers mmr based on your killer with the highest mmr should be significantly lower to allow us to learn new ones.

Definitely they will not remove it, maybe the will make it that you can see your MMR and reward you for getting a certain MMR with something and maybe somewhat of a reset after a while like the old Rank reset.
