Boosting Positivity & Reducing Toxicity: A Fresh Take on the Thumbs Up! 🚀💬
We all know there’s a Thumbs Up feature in the game, but sadly, it's not working as intended to encourage positive behavior during trials or in the end-game chat.
Here’s the idea:
The Thumbs Up feature should work like this: whenever someone gives you a thumbs up, you’ll get a friendly notification saying something like, “Hey, [Survivor's Name/Killer's Name] just gave you a Thumbs Up! Keep up the great work!” 🎉
To make it truly rewarding, for each Thumbs Up you should get a special reward, this could reward players with 20k–30k Bloodpoints, On top of that, players could earn a unique currency – called Honor Points – with every endorsement.
These Honor Points would accumulate and could be spent in a dedicated Honor Shop, offering exclusive cosmetics such as icons, banners, charms, or even unique skins that can’t be obtained elsewhere. similar to how League of Legends handles its Honor rewards. This system would reward positive behavior, make post-game commendations feel impactful, and add a fresh layer of progression to the game.
This way, we could help reduce toxicity in the game, and players would actually have a reason (which is kind of sad when you think about it) to play nice.
Of course, this is just an idea — it can be adjusted, expanded, or changed in different ways.

Dbd needs an endorsement system

This would be a great idea.

What is going to stop people from abusing this system and say, "Well you camped (even when I didnt) so no honor for you"
or "YOU TUNNELED" when I could not find someone else. How do you prevent this?Another question to answer is what is too much tunneling, camping or looping? Are you really going to expect that the Community can police itself with giving honor to only players who play the way they approve of?
These side effects need to be addressed before this idea is greenlit. How you expect to do this?
Also, I dont think this System actually worked for League of Legends as their community is one of the most toxic.
Dead by Daylight isn't even on the top10, and ill be honest, I have not seen a single toxic person in like months on EU Servers.1 -
Hey, really valid points – thanks for taking the time to dig deeper into the idea. Let me try to address your concerns one by one:
1. Abuse of the system (e.g., “You camped, no honor for you!”):
This is definitely a risk, just like with any player-driven reward system. But the key here is to minimize the impact of individual bias by making the rewards cumulative and based on multiple endorsements over time, not just one match. So one salty player skipping the thumbs up won't ruin anything – it’s about overall positive feedback across many games.2. Community policing itself:
You're totally right that there’s always subjectivity in how people define "camping," "tunneling," or even “fair play.” That’s why this wouldn't be a punishment system (no one loses anything), but rather an optional reward system for those who consistently get positive feedback. So no one is "policing" others – it’s just a small way to recognize good vibes.3. Defining what’s 'too much':
This is a grey area, and that’s why the system would never penalize anyone. It's more like an appreciation system. You don't get punished for not getting honors, you just may not get a bonus. Ideally, players who make the game fun – whether they’re killers or survivors – would get noticed over time.4. “LoL’s Honor system didn’t fix toxicity”:
Totally fair – LoL’s community still struggles. But their Honor system does offer exclusive rewards, and many players still strive to stay on Honor level 5 to get them. No system is perfect, but if implemented thoughtfully, even small incentives can make a difference, or at least recognize the ones trying to be positive. It’s not about fixing toxicity overnight – it’s about encouraging better habits.3 -
I know its valid points, I made them. ☝️😎
But I think you overestimate how much the community as a whole has less bias than the majority, the only way cumulative endorsements could weed out the bias is if the majority of players don't have bias or can be trusted with using it fairly.
Which I see no reason to assume.Another thing is the rewards, say you want the reward, then every time you don't get an endorsement, when you think you play the best way you can, that will be a much much more impactful non-endorsement than any loss of the game currently.
I also don't see how recognizing the subjectivity of being called a Camper, Tunneler or whatever and not getting an endorsement because of that will matter. Most people are not philosophy savvy, they don't give a hoot if we see that as subjective or not. It will still matter and its still going to have an impact on interactions, which this system will encourage. It has potential to make bad interactions worse, if you want those points.
Which further just raises question at BHVR, "I am playing nice, but people dont give me honor. what gives."
RiotGames themselves reported that the Honor System made a dent in the Toxicity for a little while, which we need to look at:
Positives:
Encourages better behavior (especially in low-to-mid ranks).Creates a visible incentive to not be toxic.
Players with high Honor are seen as more trustworthy in matchmade games.
But... :
Players with low Honor are seen as less trustworthy in matchmade games and is dodged. Many players view it as cosmetic and meaningless.
Hardcore toxic players don’t care about rewards — they’re in it to flame.
There's no real punishment for being dishonorable unless it’s extreme (chat bans, etc.).
Trolls can still get honors ironically or from pre-mades. (aka, your friends give you endorsements.)
Toxicity shifted to be passive-aggressive or "accidental sabotage" instead of open speech.
Which sorta brings me back to the point I made that it didnt fix the problem for Riot, you argue against that point that this idea does not need to be be 100% to be viable. Which is fine, if you think this can make a dent in the Toxicity then maybe a dent is worth this effort.
But I kind of see it as a very expensive to create with minimal effect, Sure this game could use a endorsement system, idd like to throw bloodpoints at a really good looper when I see one, or a real devilish Killer. But that this system would be an effective tool against toxicity, I'm desperately uncertain about that and its a big gamble to invest into something like that for BHVR.
Its a fun problem to think about.

And how did that made lol or any other playerbase less toxic?
Is there any noticeable difference in behaviour just because of the 'reward'? When you look at this game people throw bps or whatever quite often into the water just to make someones experience less enjoyable.
I am not against it just asking btw.

It needs to do something that's for sure. I don't know that it does anything in its current state. Why have it there if it doesn't?
Please make it function in some way. That would be really neat.

Literally ANYTHING to give killers an alternative to slugging for the 4k would be an improvement.
