What's with this player survey
I… feel quite baffled going through it. Like, it feels like a very important question was skipped early in the process (I'm on question 60 and counting): how much do you play each role.
Getting so many teamwork etc. questions when I only occasionally play Survivor is certainly a choice, when the answer is "it doesn't really affect me most of the time".

just finished mine. So weird I had a feeling they were going to do a player satisfaction survey yesterday, and idk why my lizard brain was tingling and I thought about making a post asking them to do one.

It feels so survivor sided tbh
-7 -
I've been doing this for years because I don't have to report bugs or do player surveys to create the right to complain, but honestly, it's rare that I feel like I'm actually living up to the actual updates. Ada has been buggy for years and banned from tournaments, and Twins has had two bugs after fixing one. Off the record, there are countless killer perks, add-ons, and abilities that are meta and unbalanced. And if you keep pointing out that it is, it's getting a real bab with the deep wound spec change.

There’s one question about why you took a break from the game or something, and the answer options are all survivor sided like killer power/perks too strong, and nothing about why a killer player might have stopped playing.
It does give an insight into the devs mindset that the killer players are not as important.16 -
If nothing else, it's a comical oversight. I think I took a break after 6.6.X? So right before DH finally stopped being so annoyingly common and Bloodwebs got less frustrating to level.
6 -
this most likely explains what role the current majority of playerbase that buys most cosmetics mains lol.
It's sad to see questions about people enjoying playing against xy killer playing xy strategy while vice versa version of question is not even mentioned
2 -
Just to show you how bad your take is - remember that an event got delayed so that a Wesker-Bug was fixed before the event started, so that Wesker-players could play the Killer during the whole time of the event.
And you seriously say that a company which does that only cares for one side? Come on. BHVR neither only cares for Killers nor only for Survivors.
11 -
What’s that got to do with them putting out a survey that only includes answers relating to the survivor experience?
I never said they don’t care but it certainly suggests where their priorities lie which is on the experience from the survivor perspective. There are plenty of survivor perks and play styles that aren’t fun to play against.
And if you want to talk about bug fixes look how long it took to fix uncounterable flashbangs, killers sure had fun playing against that.
6 -
Your claim: "It does give an insight into the devs mindset that the killer players are not as important."
And I showed you that your claim is wrong, meaningless and does not have any significance.
And please, dont get started with Bugfixes, when we had Bugs like the Merciless Storm-Bug, which was in the game for months…
Look, you try to paint the picture that the Devs only cater to Survivors and that those poor, oppressed Killers are ignored by them, but it just is not true. You have to do a lot of mental gymnastics to get to your conclusion and you might want to stop doing this.
7 -
Maybe they have data that shows Survivor players are the ones who take the most frequent breaks from DBD? I don't take that many breaks from DBD, but I do sometimes stop playing Survivor to play only Killer for a little while.
I can only speak for myself, but it's more fun to play Killer than it is to play Survivor at the moment.
15 -
You haven’t showed anything though, just mentioned they fixed one killer bug?
I haven’t painted any picture, I uploaded a picture that shows the facts that the only answer options given on a player satisfaction survey were from the survivor perspective which demonstrates that the killer perspective is valued less than the other options given.
-1 -
This seemed pretty normal to surveys I've taken in the past from them. They all have areas of focus, and they also seem to also have questions that are unclear about what they're asking.
There was no free response at the end of this one which was the only real difference I noticed.
6 -
It does give an insight into the devs mindset that the killer players are not as important.Or that they are seeing a lot more survivors quitting the game than killer players and that is what they are trying to figure out. Going of reports about queue times it seems a valid concern.
12 -
Which will most likely be the reason for that question. All questions in surveys have some kind of reasoning behind them and this would be the only actual valid reason for this question. (Which I did not even get, probably because I said that I never took a break from DBD)
4 -
I would say a good percentage of players play both roles and there’s no reason they would not just put the same answers but from killer side as well, it’s not like they’re limited to that many choices and they couldn’t add 1 or 2 more to see how people felt. It implies they don’t think people have any complaints about playing against survivors.
-4 -
there’s boxes labeled other so if an option isn’t available you can write it in. I hope this helps.
6 -
I literally saw this question and thought the exact same thing before I saw this post.

What is more likely:
A) the devs are extremely survivor sided and hate killer players with a burning passion, or
B) the devs have access to a lot more statistics, which could potentially included things such as accounts that primarily queue up as survivor taking extended breaks more frequently than accounts that primarily queue up as killer
21 -
They took the quitters' argument instead of punishing them properly and here we are, the problem has only grown.
-5 -
Seemed like it was motivated and driven for survivors. Nothing about the killer, nothing about gen speeds, boring repetitive perks on the survivor side. I was just happy to see Until Dawn.
0 -
I think it’s likely that this survey was just specifically focused on one area, which we’ve seen in past surveys, rather than an overall bias.
7 -
That's actually fairly logical
5 -
Looks like dbd is really losing a survivor players
8 -
it clearly shows the priorities of the game design :)
-12 -
Feeding the monster has paid them well. They have been trying to address survivor problems since they introduced the bots, the first and biggest mistake. They reworked Skull Merchant twice by demand, they fixed the 3gen and addressed the slugging problem by reworking Knockout and adding the surrender option (which now is used to ragequit and evade Mori, but they stay for some chat anyway). New changes have been announced, but the problem grows and grows... The game has hit rock bottom by wanting to fix things from a biased perspective.
-8 -
Only long breaks I have had were because of old dead hard, cheaters and then MFT. I played m1 killers the most then.
I played solo back then but that was before the HUD and base BT.
I play each side more balanced lately depending on archives I want.
If not for archives I would have definitely took a break when Ken came out. Still might.
I felt the survey was a kind of waste of time doing mostly.
In one question I put in other option: Overpowered SWF on comms and cheaters.
-7 -
I'm less annoyed at the intentional bias, given they might've just wanted the data, and more that on top of that they've basically poisoned their own results by not giving away to filter out irrelevant feedback.
-3 -
even the reasons why you quit playing were like "awful killer perks, toxic killers, overpowered killer abilities" and so on, but nothing about ridiculous gen repair speeds, or how kicking gens do nothing, or stuff like that...
-5 -
Well it's not much fun using a weaker killer on a survivor sided map when they are a good SWF.
In a recent game I had 1 hook. It was the event though and the seemed to be moving a tad faster than normal.
I rarely face some of the weaker killers I'm guessing because its hard mode.
Do the DEVs understand this will turn off survivors too mostly facing strong killers because you made the other ones such hard work. Besides playing dirty.
Down vote all you like you seem to have nothing else to contribute.
-6 -
Agreed. Its a puzzling business decision to coddle and pander to 20% of your player base and expect the rest to be cool with it.
-5 -
Uh I agree? Weaker killers need help. Gen perks should be buffed. Gen speeds should be adjusted. Both sides have valid complaints but go vastly overboard. And everyone is miserable, me included. Why the heck are you mad at me?
1 -
With no killers you have no game.
-5 -
Remember the slugging one? All of the questions were around how it feels to BE slugged, but they didn't have a single question about if people feel like they HAVE to slug, or WHY they slug.
-3 -
Its interesting how there is no option for "My teammates keep giving up early in the match." I guess it just got lumped into the trolling one.
3 -
Yeah, we know.
Someone makes sure to remind us of exactly this about once a week.
Because for some reason, killers in particular feel the need to remind the devs on a regular basis that "it's a nice game you have there, be a shame if something happened to it".
Which I don't see survivors saying, at least not nearly as frequently. Survivors seem to just give up the game and walk away quietly to find something more fun to do with their time.
I think it's a pretty big indicator from BHVR that they're asking questions the way they are right now. They just posted new stats showing that "hey, kill rates are exactly where we want them", "we've balanced out the SWF problem overall", and "killers in all brackets are eating well", and then putting it a survey asking for feedback for how it feels to lose constantly on the other side of the coin.
Because as much as people say things like you did, where "tHe GaMe CaN't FuNcTiOn WiThOuT kIlLeRs", the devs seem both aware and worried that they might be on track to "death gardening" their game.
And, frankly, so am I.
12 -
I just took the survey and it didn't ask me anything about the survivor or killer roles at all.
1 -
Thats not what I meant but ok. I was trying to reply to someone. Not a threat of leaving, I don't want the game to get deathgardened, but right now the game feels miserable as killer as well as survivor. I would like to see both sides pain points addressed.
-8 -
No option to put that it's unfun playing against sweaty meta 4 man
-8 -
What should this question solve? So killers can again pray down that gens go too fast? We dont need to hear those sad excuses every time.
7 -
I stopped playing killer for 6 months because I was tired of how m1 killers were getting kicked in the gut every balance change while the top dogs were relatively unaffected.
-3 -
could of put bad maps for killer or something at least. It was shameful to see how they think and hold survivors hands. Killer never gets anything.
-13 -
I remember that, and there were no questions about how anyone felt about slugging. Most, if not all of the questions, were about how we define slugging, not how we felt about it. Questions like:
- Killer downs one Survivor and sees another Survivor nearby and goes after them. Is that considered slugging?
- Killer downs Survivor and then runs across the map to look for another Survivor. Is that considered slugging?
Questions like that.
3 -
I know I am late to the party on this thread, but I still want to give my thoughts and input.
More specifically, I do not understand why ONE survey published at ONE point in time is used to draw conclusions about developer thoughts and behavior. Don’t you think any reasonable conclusion should be based on more than ONE piece of evidence?
After taking the survey, it is clear to me that the developers are looking at improving the survivor gameplay experience to reduce churn. The survey had a Survivor focus. This makes complete sense to me. In every trial, there are 5 players. 4 of the 5 players are Survivors. It stands to reason that you would FIRST look at how to make 4/5 people not quit the game.
This does not mean that Killers are unwanted. This does not mean that Killers are unloved. The 5th player is NOT left out. They are still cared about. But change does not happen overnight. We have to start somewhere.
The goal is to make all five people happy. I would rather start by improving QoL for 4. QoL for the 5th is still important, just lower priority. When the next Survey drops and it has a Killer focus, I hope we all remember this conversation and how silly we looked trying to draw meaning from something so simple.
18 -
But it wasn’t just one survey….
The previous surveys did stuff like focus on how survivors felt about being slugged, but zero focus on how killers felt about slugging, or how killers felt when they are forced to slug. Or they’ll repeatedly ask me if playing survivor “feels like I’m part of a team”
In fact, if we were to go look at all the surveys I filled out in the past year, I don’t remember any of them caring about the killer experience, at all. Not even once.
-11 -
As I said, I think the problem is that although they've clearly made the survey asking about what they want to address in the immediate future… they skipped the part about asking "so, do you play survivor a lot? Did you used to play survivor a lot?" It feels like a very important thing to miss when most of your survey is geared towards the survivor experience.
-3 -
“Look, you try to paint the picture that the Devs only cater to Survivors and that those poor, oppressed Killers are ignored by them, but it just is not true.”
One take I always here from killer players is how “dead hard took 5 years to get nerfed and survivor perks are allowed to be broken for a long time while killer isn’t” when perks like eruption pop and ruin were meta for a long time as well
6 -
“All of the questions were around how it feels to BE slugged, but they didn't have a single question about if people feel like they HAVE to slug, or WHY they slug.”
Because it leads to more wins especially vs teams that have no coordination. Thats why
7 -
Killers rn are plenty, and the queue times are long, I can't get games as killer very often at the times I play. So it only makes sense they are wondering why people aren't wanting to play survivor/are taking a break during a 500 percent bonus bp event.
8 -
“I do not understand why ONE survey published at ONE point in time is used to draw conclusions about developer thoughts and behavior. Don’t you think any reasonable conclusion should be based on more than ONE piece of evidence?”
Because they still think it’s 2017 and still want to hold on to the idea that the game is super survivor sided and that killers can’t do anything in matches even though they win most of their matches
8 -
the las 3-4 have had strong survivor bias. Even the way the queations are framed
