There's no reason not to have in-game voice chat / communication now
Since distortion was pretty much gutted and that only made aura reading near constant, unchecked and eliminated stealth play from the game for people not quite great at taking chases it'd be good to have some form of communication with other players. Quick prompts with short phrases that alert people of their status or the killers presence at the very least.
Solo play is so miserable too because of the constant aura reading and no communication, personally I still run the perk since I've known how to take chase with killers and have basic understanding of the games fundamentals but my god the new player experience is SO bad now. Many friends quitting after trying to be stealthy because they can not understand just why the killer saw them. It's so different to my own experience starting the game where the only thing you had to worry about was BBQ and Nurses calling or the killer's power revealing you.
It's practically agreed upon that SWF is the baseline level of play at this point to just enjoy the game as survivor now so perhaps allowing solo players a mode of communication might help with the overall experience of the game for survivor side if aura reading is here to stay in the game.

And I have lots of reasons to avoid in game chat. No thanks would not want to put up with others whining or toxicity. If anything a quick chat of sort with pre-made messages could work. Didn't DBD mobile had one?

There are a lot of reasons not to have voice chat, the largest one being that it doesn't solve the problems people want it to. Voice chat won't solve the disparity between players who can communicate and players who can't.
I also disagree both that Distortion was gutted and that aura reading is killing stealth as a tactic, but that's not what the thread is primarily about, I don't think.

One reason not to implement in game voice chat is that a whole lot of people just don't want it. I sure don't want to be subjected to it. I'd rather escape 10% less than listen to randos squawking disjointed crap in my ear all game, every game. One of the reasons I play DBD is because it's an online game where I don't have to deal with that.
And before you say just to disable it, we all know that people would give each other hell, go next, and/or lobby dodge when they encountered others with it disabled.
Not to mention that there would almost certainly be compensatory buffs to killer if voice chat were made universal. And that voice comms between four total strangers likely wouldn't be nearly as effective as some might think. Especially if there are language barriers. SO how much would be gained, really?
Honestly, I think a few more upgrades to the survivor HUD and we'll be in pretty good shape. It won't be as good as voice comms with friends, but that option is obviously there via third party software if people are super hard up for it.
And on a totally personal note, I don't like the idea thematically. It's four survs dropped randomly in a trial, I doubt the entity would provide comms gear.

Just slap bond basekit and every ######### problem like this is fixed, easy as pie

My vote is working on the HUD.

Agreed. However, as far as the thematic bit, imagine if there were Bluetooth earbuds in the bloodweb, or in chests! Ace would definitely equip some Bluetooth device… and then make people want to get rid of this feature…

I'd be talking trash the whole time, rightfully so. There's no reason for everyone to get off gens because 1 person was hooked once. I'm hoping that's what it'd be used for, anyway, talking strategy and explaining inefficiency. But I've played that Death Note game, and if it's anything like that game's voice chat experience, it's gonna fail, because you'll have neanderthals talking the loudest thinking that makes them right, and the smart players will be drowned out. Just like The Island men vs women edition, where the women had 1 capable survivalist lady who knew exactly what she was talking about, but because the rest of them didn't like taking orders or feeling less smart, they just group bully style disagreed with everything she said.

That would be so funny.
