Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Why do we even have disconnect penalties?

Just finished a match.

we all spawned in.
First guy immediately saw it was a Keneki and noped out DC’ing immediately. From there everyone mentally just gave up. Me and this Ada were eventually the last two standing. Kaneki catches me but refuses to hook before getting Ada. Ada gives up but Kaneki isn’t satisfied and starts meming it up with her. All while I’m on the floor begging for death.

Bro doesn’t want me to bleed out so we picks me up and walks around with me while joking around with Ada. Eventually I lose it and just DC.

Now I’m sitting at a 30 minute ban.

Why even have disconnect penalties? This game does not have some super hardest ranking system like most other competitive games. Nobody cares hence why people kill themselves immediately on hook.

The problem is that the DC penalties are so severe. Some people play this game alot more than others, like a full time job and for those people getting a penalty from cheat and then one from DC and then they start to accumulate to a point where you cant play for a week. the maximum penalty should be 1 hour , lets say after 2 DCs for whatever reason. and should be reset every day.

people should not be afraid to log on and play the game after 71 hours and fear the game might bug out, someone cheat or someone crashing your internet or you get a normal internet cutout even tho they happen rarely. to get a reinforced 72 hour penalty to wait out.

Okay. i never got above the 15 min penalty but yesterday for example , I dominated a game and then the game froze for some uknown reason i got disconneted when i was going to do my mouri, i got penalty. second time i got booted out by anti cheat system AFTER entering the game and it was 5 minute, At this point i feel if i get another one by some unlucky circumstance it might put me on 15 and so on, And when ur at 15 you dont really wanna play for the next 2 days because it takes that long to get rid of it. You DC again you are at 30. So there is alot more than internet connection atm that makes the panalties not okay.

And sometimes the first DC in months result in 5min directly. And why i think its severe ? Because anything below drug trafficking and murder in asian countries they can only detain you for no more than 72 hours until court date. becuase more is inhumaine. And the reason why i say this is because you think its justifable to keep someone not playing for a week becuase they waisted your precious time as if you are the prince of brunai? Just Que up and get insta pop as a survivor and go on with your day.

The game needs to have a DC penalty to stop every match devolving into a bot-fest. There are many scenarios where continuing to play a match is only frustrating with no redeeming qualities.

Unfortunately, both statements are true. So it's hard to fix. Best bet is to wait for all the QoL changes to come out, and hope that they make matches where things are screwed right out the gate, less common.

I think this sort of thing will eventually be addressed by the "Abandon" feature. They need to work out some kinks, but I'm confident they are aware of this pain point and are working to help.

Man I had this happen to me back in like 2019. I used to DC to derank. I went on vacation for two weeks, came home and fired up DbD, banned for a week for doing that

DC penalties need to be removed - bcs it's useless, since they only motivate players to die more often on the hook - not leaving the bot to their teammates, which ruins the match a lot.. I don't understand what's the point of forcing a player to play if he doesn't want to play.. if there are bots for that..why introduce a bot system then? Just need to remove the penalty, or give 5-7 free opportunities to leave and only then introduce a penalty for those who abuse it, that's the whole solution to the problem.

Sounds like the exact same thing that happens now.

Perhaps we should try to address why people hate the modern game instead of beating them over the head with punishments.

I find that sometimes, so I'm okay with letting people DC at will. I'd rather have a bot that's at least trying than a live person wasting pallets, not doing anything, and just running around or AFK. I'm not sure why this community has this culture of wanting to force people to stay in a match. It's the same thing with people suicide on the hook; why even waste time rescuing them? They clearly want to go and sometimes end up being a nuisance by rescuing them and trying to compel them to stay. I've never seen a Survivor accelerate their death and hit the second stage, get rescued, and then become a productive player. This will be an issue with the game until the devs focus on the problem and stop bandaging the symptoms. For whatever reason, people will not want to play, and there's nothing the game will be able to do to compel them.

Maybe your region has plenty of bad people, In my region there is nowhere near as much DCs as penalty off

How they exactly deal with 4% yeets will determine lots, but yeah they need to dig into all the reasons players actively throw or leave absolutely.

The playstyles do vary greatly depending on region, MMR, even time of day. There's definitely a mindset difference big time.

Because disconnects ruin the game for people. I think they ought to be longer.

This is the reason exactly. I don't need to even add more. You're right, Neaxolotl.

Hard disagree even if they addressed all your problems people would still dc for dumb reasons like "it's a killer a don't like" "I'm first chase and got downed quickly" there are simply to many petty reasons that devs can do nothing to fix that would solve people to stop dcing if this would be turned off that's why the penalty is a necessary

I'm sorry but if you're sitting on a 30 minute penalty, you're the reason the penalty is there. I'm not saying this example doesn't seem reasonable, but like 3 dcs is 10-15 minutes, if you're at 30 minutes you have to be dc'ing like every round. Maybe the question shouldn't be "Why do we have a disconnect penalty" and more so "Why do you feel like you need to dc every round?" like is it a mechanic/balance thing, is it a bug thing, are you just burnt out? There's no reason you should have that high a penalty.

Exactly, every time, it's like @Ryuhi said:

"The DC penalty wouldn't be 30 minutes for a one off DC. Kinda comes off as an excuse in this case."

Every time one of these "DC penalty bad" threads come up, they always accidentally give away that they're perpetual disconnectors, by saying they reached some amount of time that wouldn't happen from one or two DC's.

Bonus points, if they also try to use the excuse for "my Internet is bad, so I naturally DC" or some other weak argument.

Accept your death and don't DC

I don’t even blame the guy for disconnecting. WhoTF wants to play against free hit Kaneki?

We tried our best without him and got nowhere. I basically gave myself to the killer so he could hook me and put me out of my misery but instead he decided to just meme with my downed body and other player.

I should just be forced to sit through this??

You absolutely should blame the guy for disconnecting, because he is 100% responsible for broken match, memeing kaneki, and everything you got

Literally nothing you wrote has happened if he didn't dc at the start

From what Ive observed here people don't even like that survivors don't have to watch the mori anymore. I don't think the survivor experience matters.

It just seems like the gameplan is to force survivors to stay in every match > Buff killers and continue nerfing maps > Successful and healthy game.

This and it gives cheaters the ability to give multiple DC penalties a day. They're literally crashing people games and the victims get the penalties lol. It's a giant joke right now

I'm not sure why this community has this culture of wanting to force people to stay in a match.

because thats how the game is structured. There is no drop in/out, there is no reconnect, there is no power scaling depending on missing players (there even used to be, if the match loaded with less than 4 survivors they had to do less gens and it was awful because 1 gen does not equal 1 survivor.) and this is an elimination based game for 4/5 players.

There's going to be things in the game we don't like. Hell, many players make it their primary mission to make sure their opponent isn't allowed to have fun. Meanwhile this game has an extremely lax disconnect penalty compared to most pvp games on the market, believe it or not. Patient players need to sift through all the things they dislike about the game as well, but they get to add other players disconnecting and ruining their matches on top. People who are frequently unwilling to play out their matches are just looking for ways to justify their selfishness.

You, or rather the devs, can try all you/they want. It still remains an undeniable fact that DC penalties will have to stay to reign in the people mentioned by @Twiggsy .

There will always be entitled people that want their perfect match or rather can't deal with something not going the way they want and dipping.

And if your/the goal is to cater to everyone like that, then good luck, the goal is in fantasy land.

  • Pulsar
    Pulsar Member Posts: 23,024

Which is why we aren't catering towards them.

Addressing common pain points and attempting to change the attitude of the community at large does not mean we are bowing down to our petty DC'ing Timmy's who will leave the game without a thought.

We are trying to address general burn-out and the feeling of mass frustration with the game. The feeling of having matches decided in the lobby screen. Or having games not being worth playing out due to one side having no chance to win and no chance to gain meaningful rewards besides brownie points.

You can try but it's basically impossible to succeed like I'll humour you and say even if you do succeed and Dc penalities get removed that's not gonna stop people from rampantly dcing for petty and entitled reasons.

Dc penaltys are a necessary evil
