Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

I used to rave to friends that one of the reasons I loved DBD is the devs made the passes so easy.

Unlike nearly every other game with a battle pass, I could play DBD with friends, have a good time, and not overly worry about rift completion because the challenges were simple enough to complete in a single match and you'd get experience from just playing. You didn't have to try so hard. If you did play a lot, you could finish the rift halfway before tehe time ended. I loved it.

I loved that DBD was not only one of my favorite games, but one of the few that existed with a seasonal pass that didn't require me to check in daily or play religiously like it was a second job.

This new quests system which feels like it was taken straight from the handbook of "How to get your plays to pay extra for FOMO by making what was an enjoyable challenge a tiring grind" tactics is such a drastic change from what worked so well that I'm not surprised that I've seen more complaints about this change than any other discussion relating to any other subject about this midchapter.

Logging in and looking at the changes yesterday was so disappointing that it's the first time in my 9,000 hours since I've started playing in 2019 that I couldn't even bring myself to play with the new content on launch day.

I'm really hoping that they revert some of this or lower the shards needed per rift level. I have a job, I have a husband, and even worse I have other video games I like to play. It's just one of the more tone deaf changes I've ever seen them made, and having played as long as I have, I've born witness to many questionable changes they've thrown in.

Well I like it; I'm a casual player and the idea of a unified Challenges section appeals to me more than hyperspecific tome challenges that only work in certain modes or with certain perks do. I'm actually feeling more relaxed even if I lose (because I get something from it) and am more interested in playing now than ever that the challenges are this easy and I don't need to work through a network of sometimes blocked off stuff to get to the end. So this change was a hit for me!

There's also a pretty damn cool Dredge skin this rift and I like flowercore aesthetic, so I have no issues with any of the super cute stuff this rift. Badges and banners included. They're all cute and I think that's fine. :)

But I do miss the tomes unlocking stuff… I just hope they find a nice compromise for those who enjoyed that. I'm more annoyed the rarity color changes didn't take colorblind players into account; I could take or leave this…

Not buying this rift, the flower skins are pay to lose, and they are just ugly. Also not a fan of the rift taking longer to level (rumor) but if its true, then no thanks.

You still get shards with xp, which is 10/500xp. This results in 10% of a level. Same as before.

I think you get them in increments of 5 (per 250?)

This pre and after a bad match as a survivor

Battle pass progression is the exact same as before

If you look at these images you will see I am level 10 with 65 fragments. This is a total of 965 fragments. You will also see every single challenge and my progress on them, except for yesterdays dailies which are no longer visible. If you add up all awards I have gotten including yesterday's dailies, I have been awarded 755 fragments. This means I have gotten 210 more fragments than I have been awarded by challenges. This is proof that XP still awards you rift fragments.

Furthermore if you look at the number of matches I have completed (via the challenges) you can see I've played 22 matches. Meaning I've earned an average of 9.5 fragments/match completed not including the fragments from challenges which is roughly the rate you earned rift levels at before this update (about 10% of a tier per match). Including challenges, I have earned an average of 43 fragments/match.

edit: it seems I was slightly off because the game starts you with tier 2 already unlocked, not at tier 1. This means my per match rift fragments excluding challenges was closer to 5 and not 10. This means passive battle pass progression is slightly slower than it was in the previous patch, but the progress from challenges is easier and faster.

I like the new system. I don't have to look at the challenges and ask, "Ok, who do I need to play as, and what do I need to bring?" I can just PLAY.

Also, making Rift progress from dailies is AMAZING
