Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Casting of frank stone's chapter potential

the casting of frank stone deserves better. The game wasn't the best, even though its one of my favorite games I can't argue otherwise, but it had everything it needed for a good chapter. It had a killer, a map, and potentially really great survivors. I've been speaking frequently about how frank stone getting shoved into a skin is a bad choice and most seem to agree, but to really convince, I need to talk about why having a full chapter is a good choice.

KILLER:

Frank Stone himself is the highlight of these discussions, of course. He's simply not a fit for trapper, not even slightly. Him being a skin for trapper is a terrible choice when he has so much potential for a whole chapter. He already has a model, chase music (which goes really hard btw), a mori, and even room for a unique and fun power with the camera used earlier in the game. Yes, that camera is used against a different form of frank stone than the form that ends up in the fog, but it was a mechanic I always thought had huge potential. There's also potential power to be found in the sheathing, with how he unsheaths and resheaths his weapon, but can't always be unsheathed or the soul of the person he consumed (likely would be stan, as that's the person who gets consumed in the ending where everyone reaches the campfire) will fight back until he puts the weapon away. There could be many fun and unique ways to combine those above elements. The camera would be a really fun exclusive item that survivors could use, putting them into first person to try to fend off frank stone sounds fun. I'm a killer main and I think I'd enjoy using a camera like that while playing as survivor. It would be a more than welcome break between all of the dash killers we keep getting, while also not just being another archetype (unless frank stone does just get a dash power lmao)

MAP:

For the map, it would obviously be the manor, but perhaps it could be the manor and the mill, via the portal, though more portals than just the one would have to be added for that to work. Alternatively that could be two separate maps but that's probably too much for one chapter. No matter what though, the manor would be an awesome looking map. It might not be the most balanced, but tbh maps often aren't, that's not new. The offering could be a film reel, as that was the whole point of augustine's plot.

SURVIVORS:

For the survivors, the casting of frank stone ends with up to four survivors reaching the campfire, stuck in the entity's realm forever. The survivors that can make it are 1980 Chris, Madi, 2024 Linda, and 2024 Sam. However, there lies an issue, dbd has never done a chapter with more than two survivors, heck even just two isn't all that common, so who to choose?

The idea I see most is Linda and Sam, because both of them are in both timelines, while Madi is just in 2024, but I disagree with that idea. I say that because it is exclusively the 2024 versions of them that enter the realm, and 2024 Sam is far less of a relevant character than Madi to the 2024 timeline. In fact, I'd consider Madi to be the main character for the 2024 timeline, considering that it is through her that we are introduced to the 2024 timeline, and the 2024 timeline is the one we see first of the main two, so really she introduces the game after the prologue*. Linda and Madi are the two most relevant characters for the 2024 timeline by far, and are far more playable as well. Sam isn't even playable in 2024 until the last chapter at all, and in general is the second least playable character. Even if you are talking about the game as a whole, not just the 2024 timeline, Sam is still far less playable than Linda and Madi, as he's only playable in the first chapter, then the two chapter climaxes, all of the in-between is focused on other characters.

*additional note: not really relevant to this discussion but Madi canonically runs fixated, as she can see her own scratch marks in the nightmare she has there, although she does somehow leave scratch marks by just walking lmao (though maybe one of her perks would have that downside)

I would prefer having all of them, but since being cut down to two is most likely, I'd say Madi and Linda take those spots best. I also think Linda and Madi would be best for legendary skins, as Madi could have Bonnie* and Jaime while Sam only has Robert. If so, perhaps Linda could have legendary skins for 1980s Linda and Chris to even it out, giving them both two legendary skins. Regardless I think that Ideally whoever isn't part of the chapter could be a standalone survivor only release later on, so under my idea it would be Madi and Linda on chapter launch, then Sam later.

*This would be tragic in a good way, as then we could have Madi fail to save Bonnie from dying on a hook again

Also, I do want to be clear that I am very biased toward Madi, as she is straight up just my favorite dead by daylight character period, but I tried my hardest to avoid letting that bias affect my analysis.

Behavior, please don't throw away all of that potential in favor of an unfitting trapper skin. You have so much to work with, its all there. I understand that casting of frank stone wasn't a hit, but its also a massive step forward, being a full game chapter teaser. Just by releasing the game, even if it wasn't good, you gave the entire chapter way more of a buildup than any chapter ever, and losing frank stone chapter means that entire potential is gone. And by potential, I don't mean just casting of frank stone, I mean any other future chapter. The game may not have been a success, but clearly it worked, because I and many other people wanted to see the chapter come to life. So please, give casting of frank stone the chance it deserves, before you lose it forever and can never get it back. Because once that frank stone skin drops, its goodbye to every single thing that made it interesting as only a skin deep facade makes it in. But up until that skin drops, there will always be a chance to change your mind and not do it.

tl;dr: I think casting of frank stone has great chapter potential, having a unique killer power, a unique map, and multiple options for interesting survivors (personally I say Madi and Linda make the most sense as the survivor choice). All of that would go out the window FOREVER if frank stone is added as a trapper skin.

I really thought it would be a chapter down the line with how everything was done like the dolls of a few killers with an extra one at the end of frank stone, trapper also has a frank stone mask already.

Alas it seems not to be for Mr stone to be a real killer but instead placing traps although he doesn't do that.

R.I.P Casting of frank stone chapter.

yeah, the game was building up to a frank stone chapter, they even said in a tweet that frank stone wouldn't be a trapper skin. I'm trying to raise my voice, be loud, and maybe if enough of us do, they'll reconsider

Have you been posting on BlueSky? I've seen someone posting about this there. I think it was a case of them using a technicality with their reply. They didn't specifically say he won't be a skin for Trapper they said he will be his own character and since he will be a legendary skin he will be considers his own character. They really should have been clear in their reply so not to get people's hopes up!

the EXACT events, word for word, were:

someone posts an image of frank stone saying "what a cool looking location I wonder if it will join the fog along with a new killer"

second person says "most likely a skin for trapper"

the official casting of frank stone account replies "this trapper fellow seems like a decent fellow. but rest assured frank is a unique being"

that's very explicit. Literally putting two and two together type of logic. They did say "he will be his own character" yes, but in response to someone saying he'd be a trapper skin. Its not "they should have been clear" because they were clear, just in the exact opposite direction. They were VERY clear about him not being a trapper skin. There is no excuse, they always did intend for it to be a chapter, there's no pretending that it wasn't the ENTIRE POINT OF THE GAME. And as a big fan of the game, I feel very cheated

my hopes exactly, there's just too much potential for it to be forever lost

Sure we can speculate there was meant to be a chapter but without any word, I don't know. True, if they game did well (I don't know the figures) I'm sure a chapter would come. I'll admit I don't follow news as closely as I used to so if they did l apologize.

I still think they were playing weasel words and in their reply they did mean a legendary skin. This is not a defense. In no way shape or form should they have answered like that if this was the case.

I know you are pissed about it but don't know why you are getting up me about it. I'm just contributing to the discussion my thoughts.
