Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

The new dc penalty system

Only learned about this but the way the new system works is that you now have to play 20 matches to remove each DC points instead of waiting a single day for the point to be removed, and if you log in to dbd, the DC penalty timer doesn't go away if you log off the game (don't know if that's a bug or not)

In my opinion I feel this is way too punishing and restrictive especially if you haven't played the game in months or if the game decides to just bug out/Internet issues and alongside the giving up on hook just from being tunneled out (which is currently Killswitched)

Don't know if it's a hot take but I thought the old dc system was honestly just perfect, if you dc'ed too many times then you shouldn't play the game at all for the next couple of days, literally give yourself a breather and play other games then come back if you really feel like playing dbd again, no one would wants to continue playing dbd if you still kept the penalty from a couple of weeks ago as there are some casual players that don't play this game daily

if they really wanted to punish players more from dc'ing, then they should've adjusted the old system like increase it by 48 hours or increase the time amount

Cause right now I just don't think the new dc system is good for the game in my personal opinion

Time-based penalty removal, doesn't teach survivors to ragequit less. Instead, it teaches survivors that it's ok to ragequit as much as they want, and they can just play another game for a while if the DC penalties get too high.

The 20 match DC penalty system is far superior, because it teaches survivors that the percentage of ragequits is important.

Also, you're completely misunderstanding how the 20 match rule works. If you play 20 games without ragequitting, your DC penalties would be 0, regardless of what they were before those 20 games.

Personally, I haven't had any issues with the new DC or AFK penalty system so far… I haven’t even received a single crow since the patch. Still, I’m genuinely interested in the topic, as I’ve seen a growing number of players reporting problems.

What surprises me is that despite so many people claiming to be affected, I haven’t really come across any solid video footage clearly showing how these situations actually unfold. For example, I'd be very interested in seeing gameplay clips that show at least 2 minutes leading up to a crow spawn… or footage just before a DC penalty is triggered.

So far, the only thing I’ve seen is that recent video by Dawko (the FNaF YouTuber), but I'd really appreciate more concrete examples beyond that. If these cases are truly as common as people say, it would be helpful to have more documented examples… both for the community and potentially even for the dev team.

If anyone here has such footage, feel free to share it here in the forum… I think it could bring some much-needed clarity to the discussion.

The game only remembers the last 20 matches. So if you had 0 penalty games in the last 20 matches, then your DC penalty would be set to 0.

Each match you play, replaces the match that happened 20 games ago, which means each match has the opportunity to remove 1 penalty match

It also means that if you have a penalty game, it’s stuck in the queue until 20 more matches are played.

Lets say you get a 5 minute penalty.

The next match you have to wait out that 5 minutes before pressing ready. After the next match assuming you didn't DC, there won't be a 5 minute timer. But if you DC the next match you now have 2 points and a 10 minute timer before the fourth match.

If you don't DC for the next 20 matches your penalty counter is reduced to zero. If you DC again it will start at 5 minutes.

Okay, thank you for the clarification. That was about what I figured. One question: Will there be an in-game tracker on how many penalty points you have and how many more matches you need for the oldest penalty to drop?

I frequently hit 1100 ping and have no issues not getting disconnected. only advice I can give is to not play during inclement weather.

this system is great for keeping the ragers under control.

That would be interesting. Maybe it could be a numbered grid of the last 20 games, and green represents a good game, and red represents a penalty game.

For example, in the above screenshot, the player has 3 penalty points.

The numbers also represent how many additional games are needed to push that game out of the list. For example, the Red 6, needs 6 additional games for it to get removed from the list.

The only way to keep 3 penalty points across 20 games is if you keep disconnecting during the 20 games.

If you disconnect 3 times in a row then for 17 games you have 3 penalty points. After game 18 it goes down to 2. After 19 to 1. After 20 down to 0.

It's a queue that is 20 games long. Each entry in the queue is "Disconnect: Yes" or "Disconnect: No". Once the queue is full every new match is added to the back of the queue and the entry at the front is removed.

You're not punished more severely. With the old system you could freely ragequit your last (or only game) of the day. In theory you could ragequit 100 games on 100 consecutive days without any consequences and ruin the game for 400 other people.

It doesn't matter when you disconnect anymore, you are now penalized based on the % of games you ruin (capped at 20 games total).

So you want to say I spoil 400 matches, and then what is the point of bots, are they decoration?! The devs have already introduced go next prevention so that no one can commit suicide, but what if in these 20 matches there will be game bugs that will lead to crashes, a cheater killer who can hold us hostage for hour? This change could be introduced if the game was perfect on all fronts, but it will with it's spaghetti code and balance

the bots suck, they outright sandbag the living players. I seen a clip yesterday somewhere of a bot trying to get a player in the dying state to heal them instead of picking up said survivor from the ground. It honestly looked like the bot was teabagging the downed player. Hell in my last 5 days the only afk crows i’ve seen was on a useless bot.

Bots make better decorations than teammates. Just because bots exist does not mean you should be able to make your teammates suffer their existence.

then you want me to WAIT around for my DC penalty to expire?

Yes, or else it's not a penalty. You expected to circumvent it by turning off the game for the day. More than likely the plan was to stop anyways so what did it matter quiting, right? Your loophole got patched. Thats all there is to it.

    Just an FYI

Hold shift and move. Doing this stops any interaction between you and another survivor. If the bot glitched out then move to a spot where they can pick you up.

That doesn’t fix bots who do nothing because they’re broken(the status effect) and just crouch spam for heals. The bots prioritize themselves getting healed above all else. Holding shift doesn’t fix that. They’re fundamentally broken.

Absolutely not and thats what the reply was about. What is the point of the penalty if you can just skip it?

  • Mr_K
    Mr_K Member Posts: 10,348

Understood. It was just a FYI even against griefing teammates.

Who is demand you to sit and watch? Last I checked it didn't require you to do a task to make sure you were still there.

Also yes, the whole point of this thread is to skip the penalty. DC while fully knowing that it was the last game for them. Turn on the game the next day and continue as if they didn't just bail from the last match.

Oh no, the consequences of my own actions.

What BHVR did was moved the penalty from instantly starting to when you queue for the next match. The reason you all are upset about this, is because now you have to reap what you sow. There's actual consequences to your actions.

I don't know if I believe you on that. But if that's truely you issue, fine. I, on the other hand, am talking about purposeful action.

Is it wrong to DC (or go next) from a normal match?

If you say anything outside of yes, then we can agree to disagree.

Games crash for killers too. If you are talking about the detection system, there's a thread about a Myers trying to get the stalking achievement and got hit with a penalty.

Yeah, I saw that. It just blows my mind how people think it's okay for players like that to be punished the same as the ragequitters.

I think different people have different opinions about how casually you should DC from a match. From my POV, you should almost never DC on purpose and accidental DCs should be pretty rare, so having to eat a 5 or 10-minute penalty very occasionally because my modem wigs out doesn't sound like a big deal to me. That's less time than I waited to play killer in 2v8.

Now, if it starts happening all the time because the system's bugged or something, that's different, but it hasn't been active long enough for me to know that.

  • Mr_K
    Mr_K Member Posts: 10,348

No I don't think they should. The system needs to be fixed and only penalize when its fairly certain the actions taken were malicious. This could mean tracking behavior over the coarse of many matches.

  • LordGlint

I dont think they'd add things to help ppl effectively game the system. They want ppl to stop DCing, so they arnt gonna tell them they have to play 1 more match before they can freely DC again.

Probably to ensure that a player on their LAST game of the night is just as decentivized to ragequit as someone on their FIRST game of the night.

Personally, I tend to hop on for 2 or 3 games during weekdays when I do hop on... If I DCed from the last match every night, My DC rate would be like 50% of my games played. That's like 7-10 on the new point system, but I would never feel any of it.
