Event is too killer sided
Hey, I really dislike being the guy that says "the game is ____ sided!!!" and starts complaining about everything, but after playing the event for a bit I do have some complaints about how they implemented the modifiers.
Both roles have 3 abilities each they can ocasionally use throughout the match, but in my opinion the survivor ones are almost useless if compared to the killer abilities.
1. Silent mode - Essentially a better Iron Will that only lasts for a short amount of time. We all know Iron Will is good but not very game changing and mostly situational. Very few cases where you actually feel this makes a difference since most of the time the killer will have line of sight and will be chasing you. But if you go against a Spirit this can be very good.
2. Block window - My favorite out of the survivor abilities, you can block and window and stop the killer from vaulting it for a few seconds. Can make for some pretty funny moments where you block the window in the killers face and they have to go around the loop and waste some time. It's mostly very situational though, and a gimmick that doesn't do much most of the time.
3. Create party pallet - In theory the most powerful ability you can have, where it lets you create a pallet in any spot a pallet can spawn, but the pallet breaks if it's dropped, even if it stuns the killer. In theory, this can make the killer's life like hell where in each corner there's a pallet to worry about getting stunned. In practice though, you can bring Enduring and now dropping any of these pallets is a bad idea for the survivor and means getting a free hit. I'm yet to see a single killer to not bring Enduring this event, and why wouldn't you? And even if you don't, even the game gives the killer a limited time Enduring as an ability, so this means using this ability is a bad idea 99% of the time.
Now with the killer's abilities:
1. Endure any stun - The game gives you Enduring's effect for a short time. It's not very good since it doesn't last long and not always there when you need it, but it's nice when it's there. But just bring Enduring instead.
Now, for the good stuff:
2. Break pallets from a distance - This was already a thing before and people already disliked it before for it being basically free zoning, and it is. Any time you use this you are not only saving a lot of time from breaking the pallet but instantly zoning the survivor into a bad position and getting a free hit.
3. Hook from a distance - If you've played at least 2 killer matches you've realized that a good portion of the match is spent carrying survivors around to hooks. Sometimes you have a Scourge Hook perk but all those hooks are very far. Sometimes you need to hook in a certain part of the map to gain pressure. Worry not, cause this ability gives you the option to send the survivor to any hook on the map as long as it's on the same altitude. Cutting all that time you spend carrying survivors around to hooks is insanely strong, specially when you can pair it with Scourge Hook perks.
Overall I think there is a clear discrepancy over how the abilities from each side affect the match. I don't really have a problem with the abilities being too strong, I actually like it, since it shakes things up, but if only one side has said strong abilities it makes it a lot less interactive, and I guess I'll be playing a lot more in the killer role this event.
You can argue "focus on the fun, not on how strong it is", but if most of the survivor's abilities are incredibly situational and/or weak, it also does not make it very fun to interact with.

It was like this last year too. Horrible event, glad it's going away.

Bold of you to assume they won't ignore feedback and just add these abilities to whatever the next anniversary event is. I fully expect to be dealing with this nonsense again next year.

Yep… As a survivor, I dislike this event. I finished my quests for today, and I'm back to playing the regular game.

I'd be surprised, but the developers have made it abundantly clear that they don't care about the Survivor experience. Anyone who says otherwise is simply deluding themselves.

just play killer instead, it’s so much less frustrating to play. I legit had to stop and switch roles because playing survivor has been AWFUL.

It is objectively bad, but I'm feeling kinda zen so I'm just powering through it. Events usually go back and forth like this. Cakewalk for Survivor, then cakewalk for Killer. Blood Moon could still be cheesed through via camping/tunneling/slugging as anything ever added to the game, but it was a nice way to feel like we had autonomy again. Then here it's the opposite. Next event might be more in our favor.

Same ole story. DBD will never be fun for survivors.

Said the same to my friends, we played 4 games all goofing off and having fun with silly builds, only to be met with killers that play like their life depends on it and they will win millions for winning the game. On top of the powers that are so killer sided its laughable. Overall an awful event, yet again another day of playing 4-5 survivor matches before having the most unenjoyable experience and swapping to killer.

remote hooks are such a blessing, ngl
you indeed waste obscene amount of time carrying people to hooks, it's insane.
you can also have really good hook spots and get more pressure.
mechanic like this would unironically do so much to reduce the need in camping for a lot of killers

It hasn’t reduced camping or tunneling at all, if anything I’m seeing more of it than ever before.

This. I barely touch survivor these days but had to do that 'spawn party pallets' quest just now, and wow, did not enjoy that lol the flipside isn't that great atm either though, my queue time for killer is really bad. I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place here.

Yeah the Q times for killer are bad, I agree. Still a much better experience than survivor though. I’ve even tried bringing out nothing but sweaty stuff and it’s still horrendous as survivor, and I think that says something. You can’t even gen rush them before being doomed. I was like this is crazier than normal.

just because people dont have to do it, doesnt mean they wont. thats why they're adding more and more anti systems. remote hooks are however the so much needed alternative / soft rework to the system that adds up to not making killers have to play like this.
remote hooks actually let me play lower tier killers in my mmr hell without sweating in macro too much because i dont get forced into downtime and unavoidable waste of time and bad position, especially when people die in comp corner which happens way more than you can believe.

It's a little killer sided unless you're playing in a SWF, background player SWFs with party pallets are insanely strong. I agree otherwise remote hooking and pallet breaking is generally a lot stronger than the survivor powers which are mostly minor advantages.

A good opportunity to learn why go next was so popular for those who don't understand. But that's really wishful thinking. 😵

I think i've had enough of the event queue after a dozen or so matches. Playing Lights Out against a three gen Skull Merchant would be more enjoyable than this.
8 -
Try playing Spirit and having every survivor just… vanish when you phase. It's loads of fun.
-1 -
I disagree…I have been having a lot of fun on survivor. Escaped out of 8 matches. Well…. would have been 8…Last match had a Dedicated Servers issue. I even forgot to bring a 4th perk and item on one of my matches xD
-4 -
Yeah, too killer-sided. The best thing to do in these situations is to cram all the challenges during the final week. That way, you can get a lot of them done simultaneously since some overlap. I always do this to minimize the headache and inconvenience of playing in an event playlist that isn't fun
10 -
i disagree with this, i think the event is pretty fun as survivor and i play both sides very equally. actually, i feel like i've been escaping easier while playing in the event mode because of the survivor things.
-7 -
Now, I try to play fun and make it enjoyable as much as possible (I play killer mostly)
I had a game where I let the last 2 survivors off and let them stun me with party pallets and whatnot.
One funny moment was when an Orela managed to stun me 3 times in row with a party pallet. She thought I did it on purpose (nope, I am just bad lol).
2 -
"winning" and "fun" are not always the same thing, I escaped 3/4 games I played earlier, it doesn't mean any of them were fun whatsoever. They were slog fests of annoying killers and games back to back to back to back.
6 -
Escaping means nothing if the match wasn't fun. I just finished the one forced Survivor challenge after facing four sweaty Killers, of which I escaped once - yet none of those matches were fun, with the worst match being the one I did escape. That's the problem - too many people, the awful devs included, think "Escape Rate" = "Fun," when that is far from reality. Defeat can be just as fun as winning so long as the balance is right, yet the devs repeatedly make the game lopsided so much that even winning as Survivor feels empty.
4 -
but that's just how survivor always is, honestly? i don't know what that has to do with the event. if you want to have no fun regularly, don't play the event mode.
-2 -
Because if they made the Survivor abilities as strong as the killers there'd be huge issues. People are forgetting just how spammable their abilities are. The entire map gets filled with party pallets very quickly which while not a big deal if you have enduring. Still waste time.
Don't forget blocking windows to deny bamboozle or other vault related perks or just to waste time on a god window (Gideon for example)
Only issue is remote breaking and even then. The killer still needs to carry you after and time is still wasted vs remote hooking so... What's the issue? That the 4s ability isn't as strong or stronger than the 1? The group with 8 charges that all regenerate separately vs 2?
-5 -
I thought the tracker doesn't track event modes? Or am I wrong
0 -
True. I also stick to killer during events for most challenges and try to quickly rush through the survivor exclusive challenges once all of them are available. It just isn't fun and I hope whatever they have planned for next year's anniversary will be more fun and balanced.
2 -
I find it funny to create party pallets and use them as mindgame tool, it at least has some impact. Surely it's not as good, but it's still a temporarily mechanic that I enjoy, I actually don't enjoy the killers ones - remote pallet break, endure stun… i love the remote hook changes though (last year you couldnt choose which hook is used by remote hooking)

sorry to hear that.

Survivors should have a remote unhook. Or maybe even have a consume 2 Invitation stacks for a Deliverance. Survivor abilities are damn near worthless. The Window block can be way too OP in certain maps or just entirely useless. The quiet mode is nice, but doesn't really do too much unless you're at a wall the killer can't see over. Party Pallets are ass. My opinion is they should stun for half the duration (Doesn't stack with enduring) but also linger for 1 second. This means if you get a stun nothing changes, but they aren't also completely useless garbage if you miss which will be 90% of the time. Not to mention the brain dead unfun nonsense that is Hubris Enduring in this mode…
5 -
True, zero changes was mode since the last one, killers should have 1 invitation for me, party pallets are so useless they should linger for at least 3 seconds after being dropped, also Pain Res+Grim Embrace+DMS is really meta there, you hook survs from miles aways and it's auto triggers Pain Res+Grim, killer should hook survivors on white hooks by themselves not with free 0 skill Q button😭
