Do BHVR have logs of in-game chat?
I recently had a game where a fellow survivor hurled a racist ######### at me. Not the end of the world tbh as the only reaction it got was a roll of the eyes, but I reported it anyway.
I used the in-game report system (although I wasn't sure if this was a valid report reason), but I was wondering if BHVR would be able to see the chat log to verify the report. Or are the chat streams lost in the ether as soon as the game ends?

When you file a report, information about the trial - including chat logs - is sent for review.

Good Lord, that was fast.
That's good to hear, then :)

Jeez people these days. Complete lack of balls. I wonder how you deal with real life when you report people for such things.

If you played killer, you’d get very depressed and frustrated with all the hate until your brain is conditioned for it. Technically it’s more of ignoring the problem which isn’t good, but unless you’re on Xbox, toxicity is so bad that there’s no avoiding it.
You wouldn’t play a game every day if you knew you would always get trash talked and personally targeted every match, so why should he?

Don't break the rules, don't get reported. Easy.

I could use the same logic against you, geez people these days, complete lack of respect for your fellow human beings. I wonder how you deal with real life when you can't interact with people without being a jerk.
Here's a challenge for you, go into someone else's neighborhood and start flinging racial and other insults at them.

Are you following all the rules in real life as well? I'd rather get banned for being honest than be fake and polite pussy.

Well , what can ya do when the game is full of little kids even though it's obviously an 18+ game?
Answer: you don't say anything that upsets the little kids (obviously , duh).

Oh no, not the "YoUr ToO SeNsITiVE!!!!" arguement. Yeah, it's all fun and games until someone does it to you, huh?

No, I'm not following all the rules IRL either, but I also don't complain when I get punished for it. If you'd rather be banned, why are you complaining about it actually (potentially) happening?
PS: You can be nice and honest. Honesty has nothing to do with being an #########.

@ShirtlessDwight breaking the rules will have repercussions to it. Hate speech is against the rules for obvious reasons. Not everyone will report them, but that doesn't mean no one would and it doesn't make them weak or a "pussy" as you put it.
Standing up for yourself is far harder than just ignoring it and pretending nothing happened. It's important to speak out when something's going on and doesn't make you weak in any way. Nothing can be fixed if nothing's known.

Some people follow their own rules and never bend tho :)
In my opinion it takes bigger balls when your own value doesn't need boos of intervention of somebody else. Anyway I was only curious how people like him react irl because soon even saying 'bad game' will be taken as harassment.

There's this thing called maturity, perhaps you've heard of it where someone acts responsibly and then there's this thing called common courtesy. You know that thing you use when interacting with complete and total strangers.
Oh and lastly the TOS/EULA says hi they like the law in real life have consequences when broken. It doesn't matter what they do or how they feel, if the rule gets broken you or anyone agrees to you get punished. No if's, and's or but's about it.
Just like in real life when you break the law you can suffer the consequences and you don't get to tell the judge your honor you shouldn't punish me because someone got offended and reported me.

Is this guy really arguing that racist language is perfectly acceptable? xD

We have the chat logs, so yes can see everything that is said.
There is no place in the game for racist or homophobic language, so please keep reporting these incidence as I know many people don't because they think nothing will be done.
And for those who are commenting that this should not be reported - it isn't about people being sensitive or "lacking the balls", there's such a thing as hate speech there's also such a thing as being a decent human being. There are repercussions for these things irl so of course there's repercussions online as well.

I've reported a handful of people, mostly survivors, that say some very inappropriate things such as ######### and very racist things. It would be nice if there was some way to know if the report did anything at all. As of now it feels like reporting does ######### all. I'm sure these types of people just keep saying it and keep getting away with it over and over. I've even reported a streamer for saying go ######### over and over and yet NOTHING happened.

Any action taken is between the player and BHVR, we do not inform the person who made the reports.
Communication Abuse is on a soft ban system so the first is a 24 hour ban - all these are progressive until a permanent ban is in order. It's only when a permanent ban is issued that these are shown on a players profile so whilst you might not see action being taken, I can assure you that it is.

@MandyTalk Had a person telling me to commit suicide in the chat. What would you categorise that as? Would that (hypothetically) lead to a soft ban as well?

Thank you for clarifying :)
It is good to know that these reports do not fall on deaf ears.

Good to hear that the chat log is sent along with the report. Maybe it's an idea to make that more clear, because I think many insulters think that the chats are ephemereal.
Last year I wrote down every insult I got in chat. After three days, I got two pages of vitriolic text and stopped recording it. I wish I had submitted a report for every occasion.

You should always report. Worst case, nothing changes, which is also the best case when you don't report. Best case, they get banned, which won't happen if you don't report.

I think it's deplorable you don't ban blatant racism permanently with no second chance, like you do with cheating.
So basically BHVR is saying cheating at a video game is worse than racism.
Good call kappa(s)

First off, interesting name. 😄
Second, I know Mandy answered but I want to confirm that we do keep chat logs, that's what we investigate when a profile is flagged with reports.
