Is Kindred a “Must Run” Perk?
I was watching a moderately well-known streamer the other day who was saying that Kindred should always be in your survivor build unless you’re a 4-man team on comms. The argument is that it’s so much better than any other perk you could bring because of the information it gives you.
I’ve always considered it to be a “noob” perk and really haven’t used it at all since I was newer player, but thinking about it more, I think he has a good point but with the caveat that it’s really only valuable if your solo q teammates are running it as well and they’re experienced enough to know what to do with the information that the perk gives them.
Curious to know if anyone strongly disagrees with this and if so, why. Convince me that it shouldn’t be in my builds from now on 😉
A side note - I would really like to see Kindred become base kit but also some adjustments made to Killer side to compensate if kill rates dropped too much because of it. I think that would go a long ways in bringing solo queue up to the same level as SWF in terms of information advantage.

If you actually have faith in your team and know how to read the HUD properly, then I wouldnt call it a "necessity". With that being said, if you have faith in your team in Solo Q then you need to put it some where else
So be that teammate, and bring No Mither

I run it all the time.
Bond and Kindred are kind of base for me. Only if i have a challenge that requires otherwise.
I wouldn´t say it is a must run but it is very good.

I'd say it's somewhere in between. Before the survivor HUD, yeah, that perk was absolutely a must-run, but I do believe that feature provides enough info that you don't need Kindred anymore.
Kindred's value is twofold. It tells you if the killer's camping (and a little bit whether they're coming for you specifically), and it tells you if your teammates are going for the save. In the latter case, if the answer is "no", it lets you peel off to go save before risking that person hitting second stage, which is pretty big- it's not the only perk that does this, but it is a good one for it.
I'd say the perk is definitely better if your teammates are all running it, but it's not required for the perk to provide noticeable value. It's a damn good solo queue perk either way, but I personally haven't run it much since the survivor HUD was added.

It is in my #1 slot on every survivor and I wouldn't even play in a 4man swf without it.

It's a fantastic solo queue perk, you may not have to run it every time but you can never go wrong by running Kindred in my opinion.
I love most of the OG perks and rarely run new ones, the old great perks are still great to this day.

It drives me insane when I see solo players not running Kindred.
It is absolutely mandatory. If you're solo and not running it, please don't ever complain about solo queue. You're part of the problem.
The HUD is not remotely sufficient.

I personally think solo queue play around hooks is wildly inefficient without Kindred.

Kindred + Open handed is no exaggeration crazy strong, having vision on the killer 32m around a hook is the kind of information that enables amazing team plays.

- Kindred is a great perk, and not just for beginners. I have 5k hours of play and every time I use it in soloQ I think, "Kindred is great." The HUD rework, however, has "nerfed" Kindred... if you learn to read the HUD, you can deduce the behavior and actions of all players.

Throw Bond on that build as it also is affected by open handed ✋️

Not a "must run" perk, and I don't think it ever was, but it is very useful.

Kindred really improves teamwork. Not so good as "Discord" perk, but still useful

They are right.
Solo Q, especially in the lower brackets (basically where I'm stuck perpetually because I play survivor very sparsely), is a show of completely clueless people.
So Kindred is VERY useful, so you can see if the other players are willing to save.

No. What you must have is anti tunnel. Too many killers get early kills because they tunnel one survivor who doesn't run them.

imo kindred is THE best perk to bring as a solo q player. the information it gives to the team is unconditional. there’s never been a time where i was upset that someone brought kindred, honestly quite the opposite, i praise them. so many times have i been on hook (without kindred) and 2 of my teammates bum rush to the hook to save me and waste precious time that could’ve went to repairing an important generator. with this perk, it feels like the team is MUCH more productive and on the same page, especially when the killer is proxy camping or camping in general since the AFC bar doesn’t show up on the HUD for some ungodly reason. i would go as far as to say this perk should become partially basekit and keep the aura reading on the killer near the hook as the only function of the perk. it wouldn’t benefit swf since they already say on discord if they’re going for the save or not.

I wouldn't say any perk is necessary but Kindred is extremely useful in solo queue. The survivor hud can help you make some educated guesses so far as what your teammates are doing but you can't really know.
If you see someone is progressing a gen and someone else doesn't have a status indicator then you might imagine they're going for the save. They might be. They also might be looking for a gen, hunting for a hex totem, hiding from a patrolling killer, admiring a piece of environmental art - really anything.
You could also assume if someone is in chase then it's safe to run over and try to save the hooked teammate but again that's an assumption. The killer could literally be chasing the person around the hook. You have no idea where they are or aren't based solely off the hud - you can only guess.
The hud is nice and all but without the auras that Kindred gives you all you can do is make educated guesses. (Which again - is totally fine, the game isn't broken without Kindred or anything. It just brings a bit more certainty which is what makes it so valuable.)
Personally I almost always run it. I like knowing that if someone is proxy camping me that I'm broadcasting their aura. (Plus the added certainty on whether I need to go for a save or if someone else has got it.)

It's not mandatory but it is a fantastic perk. Information perks in general are great as they save you alot of time.
1 -
i use kindred since survivors don't know how to read a hud but once in a while i get that special bunch of survivors that are incompetent even with kindred
2 -
Nah, theres alot better info perks than kindred. Then again theres way better perk choices in general than info perks

thought Discordance was a killer perk?

It's not a must-run by any means, but it is a very good perk.
It lost some of its value when the survivor actions HUD was introduced as this effectively replaced some of the information that Kindred gives, so you're nowhere near as likely to accidentally let someone go to the next hook stage or have multiple people going to the hook when it's not needed. But Kindred still gives you a ton of additional information and it is quite useful.

I love the info build Bond, Kindred, Wicked, Windows. Bond and Kindred are always amazing to have as solo survivor.

I think bond is more useful than kindred honestly

For solo runs, Kindred is a good perk to have. However, it's not necessary.
Thanks to the updated HUB, it gives ample information for me to understand the playing field. In the vast majority of cases, I can see who leaves a gen to save or being chased. I don't feel like the HUB is used enough in general.

not really…I play only solo Q and used to run it a lot. maybe in low MMR it's more helpful when your teammates have terrible game sense. otherwise most of the time my teammates will know what to do given the HUD info. and in the event two survivors go to save, it often turns into an opportunity to double reset, which can help regardless. its not that its a bad perk, it can definitely help sometimes with coordination and seeing the killers aura, but it's not so OP that it outperforms all other perks. to be honest, if your teammates don't have the game sense to know when to go for a save given HUD info like who's on a gen, who's in chase, proximity to hook, etc, you're probably dead anyways.

I think he’s referring to comms 😉

Tbf it gives alot of information you can't get through the Hud. Syre I can tell person A is in chase and person B has their gen almost completed so I need to save. However I don't know where the chase is happening and therefore if I need to take a less direct route. With Kindred I can tell which way the killer is headed after hooking so I know if I should pre-run. If one person is in chase and the other is trailing them I know the save is up to me as the second person is likely trying to get a flashy/pallet save. In short while the Hud is invaluable, Kindred still is extremely useful.

bond, kindred, and open handed really is crazy work.
I was running Fogwise, this is not happening, hyperfocus, and prove thyself earlier also 🤌👌🫶

For solo que it's great but I wouldn't say kindred or any other perk is a must have.
2 -
idk based on my stats kindred has a 54% escape rate. that's pretty good. but clairvoyance has a 74% escape rate so i run that instead.
2 -
I wouldn't call it must run but it's extremely good like I feel comfortable calling it a top 10 survivor perk in soloQ.
You're a lot less likely to get abandoned on hook at end game if your teammates can all see each other and the killer so it will be a noticeable difference in your games.
2 -
I usualy don't use it but sometimes you'll be sitting on a generator thats like 70% done, 1 persons on the hook, another is getting chased, so you are staring at that 3rd person's icon like "are they going for the save?" Meanwhile the person on the hooks timer is going close to half and you see that 3rd person start on a fresh generator and ur like WHAT!? And you end up having to run over there like the flash trying to stop them from losing a hookstate because you thought the 3rd person could read when it was their opportunity to save lol so it prevents that from ever happening atleast.
2 -
no its not, just for beginners like me 🙂
-2 -
That's probably because it shows the Hatch to you.
and also unlocks window techs.

You can run whatever you want, but kindred is probably one of the best perks to get close to swf comms level of efficiency. Having the knowledge of where the killer is going after hook and where your teammates are helps you make better decisions.
It’s technically not needed, you could run a different aura perk or something else, but is it really nice sometimes for getting your teammates to not uselessly hide near your hook while the killer is camping.
