Do Boon Totems Need A Buffs?

I feel like they aren’t worth the time it takes to set them based on how much value you get out of them. Would reducing the set time or increasing the effective radius be something they should consider or do you think they’re fine as is?🤔

I feel like the mechanic is in an okay spot personally. A good boon placement can come in clutch in close games - I think Shadow Step & COH are still incredibly strong and worth running, Exponential is probably the most situationally busted perk ever due to how hard it counters slugging.

Now there's the other two perks.

Dark theory - hard to know how good this perk is, being chased around a boon area is a good way to get the boon removed which you obviously don't want but in some spots, survivors being permanently 3% faster is incredible. Most notably shack and safe fillers, you can greed them and get away with it.

Illumination is not a strong perk, but I quite like it in solo Q because it shows you and your teammates ALL generators. This can mean your teammates don't have to look for gens, they'll innately know where they all are provided they go in the boon radius at least once. The extra blessing speed also lets you move your boon slightly faster + paired with counterforce can make dealing with hex builds really fast.

My personal opinion on boons is that they will always struggle between being too weak and too oppressive. I think fundamentally boons being infinitely reusable eats too much of their power budget and it would be better if the totems were destroyed when snuffed out and boons were balanced around being usable up to 5 times.

They are decent for the most part, Illumination is underpowered and Dark Theory is Dark Theory.

But some buffs and changes to their functions would be nice.

Yes. None of them of worth running in their current state. Whenever a solo queue teammate starts a match by blessing a totem instead of working on gens, I know the match is basically over already.

They could all use buffs to some degree, but it is a delicate balance since some of them could become easily overpowered (see: original Circle of Healing). Maybe something like a very slow passive heal whenever you’re in the aura of the totem? Something that could be useful enough to actually put in your load out but also waste a lot of survivor time if they want to get a full heal.

Not as a mechanic, no. I would like to see them tweaked a bit, but that wouldn't be a flat buff- I'd ideally like to see "much less vertical range, but more horizontal range" tested, for example.

It's mostly just Dark Theory and Illumination that need buffs. Dark Theory should get a secondary effect, and Illumination should just reveal more things, especially your teammates when they're interacting with revealed objects.

Boons are unpopular but that's for a variety of reasons that aren't just their strength in a vacuum. They're not doing that bad in terms of design space and balance.

Yes, no Boon is worth the time investment. They are incredible weak and players who constantly boon Totems are actively hurting their team.

But they also should make Boons only work on the floor their are on, since setting up a Boon on a multi-floor Map will just double their range and defeats the purpose of the Killer being able to snuff it quickly.

    Yes, they do.

Imo the mechanic as a whole needs some changes, I'd like them to get buffed but I also think they shouldn't be infinite (whether that be a basekit Shattered Hope effect or some other limitation) and should have a vertical limit on range (ie. no more Ironworks building boons extending all the way down)

I think they need changes. Either make them a bigger nuisance for killers to get rid of, or make them quieter/silent. They're much too easy to find as opposed to hex totems, which aren't as loud and often sound like environmental fire barrels. I've never even bothered trying to use them myself because they seem like more trouble than anything. Even when I've benefited from one by getting up from a down, if the killer is slugging then the match is usually such a mess at that point that it barely matters.

What I'd love to see is some better (and just more) invocations. There's a tone of potential with the concept and I also just love sitting in the little circle.

A passive heal would actually be worthwhile, particularly if you place it in range of a gen so you can heal and work. I feel like everyone who is injured currently runs to the totem like there's a doctor waiting over there.

killing map offerings was probably the biggest nerf to boons recently.

we are overdue for a brand new boon
