Why is Streetwise not killswitched?

Same time, but Houndmaster was notably only killswitched in the event queue at the time due to a interaction with the snowmen.

That's what I'm thinking.
They can't have two or more things kill switched if they don't do all at the same time/same press of the kill switch "button".0 -
Then they can just un-killswitch Gideon Meat Packing Plant and re-killswitch it all in a batch, which would be immensely simple.

I haven't been on the forums in over a year, but this debacle has gotten me back on just to see what the responses were. I haven't played in a few days but I'm sure a lot of survivors are using this now. Infinite item usage is crazily game-breaking.
4 -
Wait… what's the bug? I must be lucky because I was playing Day one of TWD chapter and haven't encountered any bugs other than the Xeno Dream pallet thing and the weird metal thing in the offering screen.

I feel bad for her. She's fightin' the horde and she's all alone. C'mon, management! Do the right thing.

Is it a stretch of the imagination or does it feel like they've broken the killswitch system with the new engine update and haven't got the fortitude to admit it?
6 -
Yep.
BUT sadly after seeing the damn pole in the offering screen we have to agree that even simple things are difficulty to be done or think of for BHVR staff. Is it a stretch of the imagination or does it feel like they've broken the killswitch system with the new engine update and haven't got the fortitude to admit it?
That's another possibility.

different between not killswitching something or not more on the role that's getting the advantage, killer Exploit killswitched survivor Exploit not killswitched.
how I feel about it.

Baermar's killswitch last December begs to differ, though he's not killswitched now for the exact same bug!
3 -
that's the xmas sweater?
maybe because they think not December they don't need to killswitch it because some may not have it I don't.
-2 -
It's the same glitch as the Christmas sweater, but it's on his anniversary outfit now. He also still has the bug in that outfit where he's thought to be Aestri.

funny I down vote quote to you lol
the last bug in your post feels like an odd bug.

Are you really trying to tell me, that my Streetwise Tech® has actually brought Dead by Daylight to a complete halt? If so, that's incredible! I never expected my creation to have such a profound impact on this game we all love so dearly.

Dusting off this account I never log into anymore to say this is a ridiculously bad look for the devs to be stubborn on this while not giving any real rationale as to why. Takes minimal effort and can be done in less than a minute for practically infinite of whatever item you found, comes from a free character's perk so literally everyone can do it, and it's not considered a problem? I was already taking a DbD break, this is absolutely going to extend it even if you do go back and killswitch it at this point. I've got games to play that don't have this many hoops to jump through just to beg for something that's broken beyond belief to be removed until it can be fixed, let alone play a major bug-free experience.
6 -
"tech" lol
4 -
Items with infinite charges not being killswitch worthy is insane, I had games go for 3 minutes because of them getting lucky with toolboxes, I am gonna stop playing the game until they fix this bug because it's by far the most unfun thing to go against.

I've legit been screenshotting it while waiting for this whole thread to disappear.

That a representative of the studio has responded this way is embarrassing not just for that specific person, but also for Behavior as a whole. Feel some shame for talking to customers like this.

I apologize in advance, and I’ll probably get banned for this, but I’ll say it anyway… with all due respect, and this isn’t directed at you personally (I’m sure you're just the messenger delivering the bad news)... but what in the kindly hell is this?
This is a game I actively spend money on, we literally pay to play it. I'm honestly tired of walking on eggshells just to avoid speaking directly, so I’m going to say it, respectfully but clearly: please, you or someone on the team reach out to your higher-ups, because this is unacceptable.
Never in my life have I seen a company so incapable of handling these kinds of issues. And when you do something right, I’m the first to praise you, but you mess up so often and so consistently that it’s honestly exhausting.
How can a perk that causes an unintended effect and completely breaks the game’s balance not be worthy of a kill switch? Why even implement such a solid system if you're not going to use it? (And again, I was the first to praise you when you introduced it.)
It's genuinely frustrating to be treated like this, especially after one of the buggiest patches to date and one of the laziest rifts ever. (Okay, maybe that's not entirely relevant… no—you know what? It is relevant. It’s absolutely part of the bigger picture). I wasn’t going to bring that up, but honestly, it's all part of the same bigger problem: a lack of responsiveness and quality control.
Again, none of this is personal toward you. I appreciate your work and your time. But from a paying player's perspective, this is disheartening, and frankly, disappointing.
Please take this seriously. Players are losing faith.15 -
This entire situation feels like I'm watching BHVR start a grease fire in their kitchen. Smoke is billowing, flames are slowly consuming the kitchen, it is spreading to other parts of the house.
And BHVR just stand there. Smiling.
A fire extinguisher sits a mere foot away.
"We don't need to use that, it'll sort itself out."
And Jocelyn - who I'm well aware was not the one to make this decision, but undeniably has been communicating in a completely absurd way through this entire thing - is throwing gasoline on it.

Kill switch is working. Gideon game was killswitched in ASAP
2 -
They can't Kill Switch Street Wise! If they Killswitched the perk, then that would be a GOOD decision, and if they make a good decision half the Dev team would go into anaphylactic shock!
3 -
BHVR should just let go and get to work on dbd2, or hire an outside company to fix their spaghetti code.
A 9-year-old game that causes more problems than it solves with every new update/chapter.
They have completely lost control of their own game and have no idea how to regain it.2 -
This is just, awful.
This is what happens when the game's code is messy, one change can absolutely cause a chain reaction of bugs.
It's even stranger when they haven't kill switched Streetwise, that broken perk is wrecking havoc on the game's balance right now!2 -
The entire community came together on every platform on how baffling the devs are
1 -
I was under the impression the killswitch was to take problematic elements out quickly without disrupting the game, therefore eliminating potential problems. With the amount of perks in-game, Streetwise wouldn't be missed.
The criteria for killswitch is what's wrong here. It gives the impression the devs are uncaring of the issue in hand. A poor standard is being held by the devs. Bugs when they appear I can forgive, especially with a new engine. But the response has been both ignorant and dismissive. It really is disrespectful, and I normally give them the benefit of a doubt.

Uff, roughly 530 down votes of 655 on a profile coming from 1 thread. Damn.
1 -
This would make a lot more sense. Problems like this are the reason to even have kill switches in the first place.
If true, the lying is extremely damaging for Behavior. It’s hard to continue having faith in staff which do this. :/

Gone but never forgotten. I still can't look at Laurie Strode without having a flashback to one of their inane rants

What exactly is it anyone wants here - just to keep screaming into the void? An explanation was requested and one was given - yet the shrieking continues. I know your favorite content creators are all saying they can't get a match in without running into infinite toolboxes raining down from the sky but if you'd actually play a few matches you might see for yourself - it just isn't that widespread.
For all we know they already have a fix they're rolling out in a day or so and don't want to bother killswitching it based on how infrequently they're seeing it be an issue in data but don't want to actually say that because people would just snarl at them anyway so what's the point? Seriously, if anyone complains BHVR is silent about an issue in the future - well, where do you suppose they learned to do that?
-16 -
All they had to do was acknowledge the bug, confirm that a fix is coming with a set ETA, and apologize for the inconvenience.
Not double, triple down on it with absolute horrid takes and turning the entire community against them.6 -
What horrible takes? They said it was a bug. They said they were watching it. They're obviously working on it.
The only thing they've said that could be called a 'take' is that they don't currently think it's bad enough to be killswitched - that's it. And people are losing their minds over that one statement.
-14 -
Takes like
"Nobody should've been told about the Kill Switch existing."
"There are worse bugs right now!"
"Streetwise is barely being used."
"Oh, it takes long to actually use the glitch anyway."
stuff like that
That's just setting bad blood with the community.Post edited by MarbleThrone on7 -
I’ve been playing Dead by Daylight since early 2020. I bought every DLC with real money because I believed in the game and wanted to support it.
Now I honestly regret the time and money I’ve spent. The decisions being made lately make no sense, and there is a clear lack of respect for the players.
The Streetwise situation is just one more example. An obvious exploit is left in the game, people are abusing it, and nothing is being done. Meanwhile, smaller issues in the past have been kill-switched immediately. Where is the consistency?
It feels like feedback is ignored and fair players are being punished while abusers get a free pass. This is not the game I supported for years.
I’m disappointed, frustrated, and tired of being let down by decisions that show no regard for the community.

A lot of the discussion in this thread has moved onto the fact that if the devs dont deem this as killswitch worthy, but will killswitch other things for seemingly contradictory reasons, it makes the fact that the team having a massive feature disabling system feel incredibly moot. They acknowledge its an exploit, its an exploit that people wont get banned for due too prior precidents, there is nothing to be done once this exploit is performed as the item now can never be depleted and virtually never lost, so in the games it does appear it is by definition an unfair advantage. But, as this thread has told us, its not killswitchable; so how are we as the community supposed to react around major bugs like this when they happen if its a genuine shot in the dark if something is killswitched or not. A lot of people are also mad that the metric of player usage seems to be outweighing the severity of the exploit, because it both resolves the devs of responsibility when theyre the only people who can do anything about it, and shifts the burden of the killswitch happening on people having to suffer the exploit/do the exploit themselves. Theres no punishment for it, it wont get killswitched because its not rampant enough, and killers cant stop it if you play with half a brain and have the right perks. The concern lies half in the perk debate itself, and half in the fact that there is a perk this broken in the game and the devs are completely fine with it and even consider it to be fitting their killswutch criteria.
As someone else said in the thread, if Streetwise doesnt meet the criteria to killswitch right now, the criteria needs to change.

Does this bug not work in customs? That was the only way I wanted to try it for the amusement of using speedy flashlight for ages.

It would be better if mods just didnt respond. It looks like BHVR is intentionaly making fun of players.
Imagine developers stop hiding their mistakes, apologize and be more clear on what the hell is going on instead of making excuses to ignore their playerbase. But thats impossible

The bug works in custom games.

Mind y'all that y'all killswitched a singular cosmetic peice all because it made the survivor completely quiet, the streetwise bug is worse than that, it didn’t meet “kill switch criteria”, but it was still an exploit, Y'all did the right thing though. Why do we have to beg y'all to use your own feature 😭 this is just giving people more incentive to abuse exploits and y'all know exactly why streetwise usage has risen up the past few days. This is so disappointing.

I can somewhat understand why you wouldn't want to use the killswitch feature liberally, but the recent response to people calling for Streetwise to be killswitched is nothing short of unacceptable. First of all, why is one (1) community managers messages from discord and replies to forum posts the only communication we've gotten? How about a twitter post from the official DbD account to acknowledge these issues? An in-game message? Why am I having to scour chat logs for information? Now, for the actual messages that was sent out, I don't even know what to say. "Community Sentiment or Feedback is 100% not part of Kill Switch criteria." how is it possible to be this tone-deaf? "We don't give a ######### what the community thinks" is how that reads. I don't understand how you don't see that. Maybe you're right that Streetwise isn't a big enough issue for it to be killswitched, but isn't keeping the community happy and satisfied the main goal? Why not just show us that you're willing to listen? Is keeping a bugged perk in the game worth turning the most dedicated part of your community against you? Leaving them resentful and distrustful?

I agree, they need to be held accountable on this and need to learn from this. Jocelyn doesn't deserve the hate she's getting on this since this was likely a decision she just had to follow but both she and BHVR need to sure up how they communicate because what they essentially told us was 'We don't care that its broken, you've gotta deal with this.'
You aren't an indie company anymore, do better. If you release something genuinely problematic, killswitch it, we all know it'll come back in a few days. Leaving it to fester is just eroding trust with your consumer.
4 -
It absolutely is gamebreaking. It's noticeable when someone is abusing the bug before you even check the endgame. Infinite heals and toolboxes saves wayyyy more time than it takes to exploit the bug, it makes 20-30 seconds max.
1 -
I'm glad to see this reluctance to killswitch Streetwise. It's just further reinforcing my decision to continue not spending money on the game (last time was DnD chapter).
Agreed that the Killswitch criteria needs to change.

This has to be one of the worst updates for DBD and their responses to not kill switching Street Wise is so tone deaf when they kill switch for less. It would've honestly been better if they stayed silent about this instead, they sent a messenger to deal with the angry wolves and riled everyone up to start criticizing them with a lot of backlash. The devs can't release a patch without breaking the game with the spaghetti coding the game has, not kill switching a perk that clearly breaks the game with the outcry about it, there's a huge lack of respect for the players here.
Please don't bother asking for "Labor of Love" you devs clearly don't deserve it.
9 -
What is the reason for this restraint with the killswitch? Is it damaging or cost-intensive to use in some way?
2 -
Hmm I must be unaware of how it happens then. I put on Streetwise, Champion of Light, Fixated and Hope with equipped sport flashlight + battery add ons, opened a chest and swapped item about 10 times but the flashlight still depleted as it should have.
0 -
It doesn't work on the item you take into the trial - It has to be a toolbox/medkit/flashlight that you find in a chest specifically. You'll need an item to be able to swap them in and out of the chest repeatedly but the one you take in doesn't gain charges.
