Everyone brings an item

I've been noticing something interesting in my games lately. I've been playing for about four years now, and I've noticed a shift. It used to be that one or two survivors would bring an item, but since the anniversary, everyone seems to be bringing something—whether I'm playing survivor or killer.

Initially, I thought it might have been because I was playing in a different region during the anniversary, or that people wanted to bring items during the anniversary (thought I don't remember this during past events). Now that the anniversary is over and I'm back in my home region, it's still happening. Every match, without fail, every survivor brings an item.

Has anyone else noticed this, or is it just happening in my games?

Between the increase of BPs ppl had from the event and the ease of SPENDING them, wouldn't surprise me if its just because people have massive piles of items. Why go empty handed when you can at LEAST bring one of the hundreds or thousands of medkits?

Franklin demise also got hit with a nerf so items don't lose charges anymore so there's no need to worry about losing your item anymore before you get a chance to use it.

I guess it could be just that. I just don't recall this in pervious years. Maybe I'm just forgetting.

Even if you hit BP cap before, spending the bloodpoints was a chore. Its not anymore.

I’ve got like 60+ medkits , toolboxes, and flashlights on a singular survivor. Those last a while, and aren’t even counting my normal items I have. I’ve got enough stuff across all killers to keep me busy with trying things for at least a year.

there used to be the fear that too many items would cause the killer to take Franklins but that's not an issue anymore

I find myself having to remind myself that I can just take syringe every game and not worry about it

what were her thoughts when people with items were allowed to hold killer items too? I remember feeling special not having to immediately drop Residdnt Evil items

I often find it to be the opposite which always confuses me. I have tons of items. Why wouldn't I bring them? Franklin's never scared me either. So what if you lose it. You're probably gonna die and lose it anyway. I regularly leave lobbies where people bring nothing. I just don't trust them.

Even as killer, I'm always puzzled when half the lobby has nothing. It makes me weirdly suspicious.

There is no reason to not bring something, unless you bring some perks for it. I usually skip lobbys where survivors have no items, because if you don't bring free help to you, why my match should be sweatier because of you?
One brown medkit can be gamechanging, and even if you look for fun, I love to bring flashlight and I almost never come for fl saves, but sometimes it can be very useful, if you are in right place in right time.

it's giga Chad energy i guess " we are so good none of us need items" killers will see the no items and think easy game

I would guess this is the reason as well. I barely used to spend BP before, just enough to keep me under the cap when i was playing - now it's so much easier. And there's also been a lot of BP's on offer, what with login rewards, events, community challenges, it's been a lot and it's so quick to spend them now so people probably don't feel the need to hoard their items anymore.

Although I still do not have enough batteries for my flashie, but that just might be a me problem!

I don't use it myself, but I have one friend who is a dedicated Built to Laster+Potential Energy main and I will say it feels nice to hear "want me to fill that back up for ya?"

I need a friend like that! I play with Jeff regularly and he's far too busy trolling to care about my flashies :(

I mean this is just from the event on one character I pumped a couple of prestiges into. Why wouldn’t I bring an item? They basically grew on trees between the blood moon and the twisted masquerade.

People spent much more BP now than back in the days. People are higher prestige / levels, the game is over 9 years old. So more items are in the game. Plus people are more competitive now than back then, and see the value of bringing items.

I have thousands and thousands items even though I bring one to every game. I probably never run out of them even if I stopped using bp. So I use item every game it's big advantage over not using them. I wonder why people don't use them more often and even syringes and BNP:s I have huge stock ready.

Hah this is me too. Party members will come over to me on a gen and put their empty items down at my feet. Makes me feel useful. I've even had strangers figure out I'm running it and do it.

As someone who never really bothered with items, I'll tell you some of my reasoning:

    • I really hated Franklin's before the nerf and I hated it even more when Weave Attunement was added to the game. Bad enough to put me in a terrible mood if I had to go up against it. So no items = no problems! I might take items a bit more often now they don't lose charges, but maybe not because…
    • I much prefer to bring perks to get stuff done (linked in part to my hatred of Franklin's). Why bring a med-kit which has limited charges when you can be an infinite med-kit with Botany Knowledge / Self-care?
    • The only item I like to bring is the med-kit but it's bright red and makes hiding in bushes more difficult.
    • Or the key, but teammates might dodge because they'll think I'm playing for hatch. I mean they're kinda right, because I am but only if things go south.
    • It's a peace offering to the Killer. A signal to say I'm not super sweaty and hopefully, we'll get to play a less sweaty game as a result. A lot of Killers will dodge a lobby if they see 4 items, even if they would have been a good match up.
    • I would be a fog vial enjoyer but don't see a good reason for taking it now except for the additional spooky vibes. And if I want to avoid cross map aura reading, I'll just hop in a locker like I always have and not risk giving my position away with a giant cloud of mist.
    • I like hoarding stuff and event items are pretty, I guess..?

if you hated Weave before, it may still be worth avoiding. I find items get picked up and put into corners less now, as they have their charges so people want to risk getting hit by Weave again.

Yeah, I can see that. Lots of Survivors like to play risky and get themselves chased, so that makes some sense.

I'm a creature of habit and I've played without items for so long now, I can't really see myself being an item guy. I tend to open chests in trial for most of my items, anyway. That way, it feels like a neat little bonus if you can escape with it and no loss if you do get sacrificed.
