BHVR's Gross Mistreatment of the Community
Our second apology from the devs within a weeks time, both cookie cutter apologies that still mean nothing. First was the release of the Walking Dead chapter, featuring a disgusting amount of bugs that players found before even starting a match. Bugs that existed since the PTB that were ignored despite players pointing them out, especially regarding the new Fog Vials. All of this culminating in dismissing the communities concerns regarding the easily abusable bugs regarding Streetwise and Blood Rush and refusing to killswitch the perks until enough community outcry was made.
Now we have another apology from BHVR's gross mismanagement of the Chandler Riggs livestream. Ignoring and dismissing the game's most well known and trusted content creator, muting people trying to give advice in chat, all while insisting they knew better than people who have had to deal with this issue for the past few years is really telling that BHVR does not care about us. BHVR does not care about their players, only the money they can squeeze out of them. If BHVR is unwilling to listen to Otzdarva, one of their Fog Whisperers, what hope do any of us regular players have of having our voices heard?
Even their apologies are barely trying. That heart charm with cute text about how much the community matters? A charm that was never released and was meant for Valentines 2024, over a year ago, repurposed to be a gift that shows how much BHVR cares about us.

All we'll get out of this apology is some useless Bloodpoints and maybe another charm. We don't need Bloodpoints or charms, we need proof that BHVR cares about their community and player base, something BHVR still has yet to show in any meaningful capacity. We need to see improvements to the game, bugfixes, releases that don't break the game at a fundamental level.
I care alot about Dead By Daylight. I've been playing since 2018 and it's one of my favorite games. I hate seeing the game I love in such a sorry state, all while the state of the game is being largely ignored by BHVR. I want DBD to improve, I want BHVR to improve, but they have given me no reason to believe they are or will. Show me that we matter as more than just dollars to line BHVR's pockets.
I cannot support a game that doesn't value me as a player, and I implore everyone else to vote with your wallets and time as well. Stop supporting DBD until it's worth supporting.
Edit: Found this clip from the (now archived) stream on Reddit. Literally interrupting Chandler, their guest, mid sentence when he suggests going with Otz idea and saying it won't work without even trying it first. Actually horrible and incredibly embarrassing behavior.

If you focus all your efforts solely on churning out content continuously, signing agreements to bring in licences, releasing tons of outfits every week, implying that your only goal is to milk as much money as possible by prioritising the health of your product and neglecting the main aspects of the game, sooner or later you'll hit a wall.
The fact that this game has no decent competitor in its genre is paradoxically a problem, because it allows them to delay or even ignore a whole series of issues, since people will always come back to play DBD because there is no alternative.

as a Friday refugee, I'm still sad that game died. I was really hoping TCM would survive just to at least keep dbd in check even though that game did not interest me

IIRC, TCM devs were also bad at managing their community, but BHVR has at least made attempts to listen to the community even if they are stubborn. Like I remember it took backlash towards a dev saying OoO was fine, because it had a low escape rate for them to do something about the perk.
The problem BHVR devs has is they haven't learned anything over the years and it's constantly ignoring the community until it blows up that is becoming a regular issue.

In my opinion, DBD is one of the weaker in the bunch, only surpassed by VHS. I played Killer Klowns quite a bit and that game was really well done from my experience. Evil Dead, TCM, and Ft13 all seemed pretty decent as well. DBD shouldn't be in a league of its own, but I'm pretty certain I know why it is—the asymmetrical horror genre is just not that good. It's one of those things that seems great on paper, but game balance is just as difficult to maintain as player expectations. Ultimately you're trying to make a PVE game into a PVP one. The only thing that truly makes DBD stand out are the licenses. Had the Halloween chapter never happened, DBD likely would not have survived the wheels of fate. Especially if we're comparing it to games like Deathgarden and Meet Your Maker. We see the lull in activity between licensed chapters and the uptick in player count whenever we get a big one. Ultimately if the genre was that good, we'd have a lot more competition than we do. But I don't think it is.

Nothing is going change as long as people keep playing the game and spending $ on it. Despite the recent PR disasters, people are not leaving the game in large numbers and the player count is still near all-time highs. Not saying they are right or wrong, but apparently most people aren’t that upset about all this. 🤷♂️

100% agree about the lack of competition being a big contributor to these issues. Kind of like Nvidia being able to constantly give the PC gaming community a giant middle finger with every GPU launch.

Yep. Lack of viable competition is this game's biggest problem. All other games in the genre either die out due to their own issues, or are far too small to ever pose any real threat to DbD and because of that BHVR have grown complacent. They know they can get away with putting out buggy, unfinished content, ignoring community concerns, and treating their biggest content creators poorly because there's no other game for players to turn to.
If you want to play an asymmetric horror, DbD is your most viable, and oftentimes only, option. So no matter how bad things get, players stick around because where else are you gonna be able to scratch that itch?
It's so frustrating because we know BHVR and DbD can deliver amazing content, they've done it many times before, but they've had a pretty severe string of flops lately and I can't help but think most of it was entirely avoidable, they just didn't care enough to try.

But most of those attempts were made after they got backlash from the community. Then after a while it went back to the way it was before.
For like the last 3-4 years BHV always gave off the vibes of " we know better than you". We know better what should count as wins, we know better which perks are bugged and problematic, we know better which killer bugs need fixing and which dont, we know that you better pay us money for a killer that we then nerf into the ground and promise a rework in like 2 years, we know better how to treat our biggest and nicest content creator that tried everything in his power to save our stream but we know better how to fix it, we know better....
At least it helped me decide to take a very long break from DBD since the game is just a pool of negativity, cheaters, bugs and empty promises at this point.

That's not an entirely fair thing to level against the community. I'm sure we do have whales, but the bulk of the sales I'm willing to bet come from big crossovers. Any big boycott can be easily overturned with Resident Evil pt. 3. The turnover rate is just too high.
I think it's always been that way to be honest. However the game has fatigued much faster in the last three years than it did in its first six, which only exacerbates the problems.

One day friend. One day it will rise again. I feel it in my bones. I to came here from Friday back in 2017. Like dDBD more than Friday but yeah I miss it too

Honestly the state of the game has been lacking for a long time. I can't bring myself to play anymore. For 6 years I have grinded the anniversary event 12 hours a day. This last one I played two game and gave up. It's boring facing the same exact strategy every single match. Tunnel and camp a survivor, then pick off thd remaining scraps. Yawn.
And seeing how they treated this last event is no surprise. They're grossly arrogant.

Maybe not spending on their game will made them actually think. At least I didn't buy anything since recent anniversary and not planning to, even if it mean I have to unlock more than 10 characters yet

BHVR appears to have a hiring policy where they want to give people a chance who lack critical experience in their respective fields. Whilst it's great to give people a chance who otherwise wouldn't get that chance elsewhere, it's best for everybody that they're paired up with people who are experienced, so there is someone to learn from. At the moment it just seems that the inexperienced people simply given a chance have been thrown in the deep end with no assistance and it's showing.

BHVR does not care about us. BHVR does not care about their players, only the money they can squeeze out of them.
I've been saying it for quite a while, only to see people go "Lalala can't hear you, game gud, you meanie!"
Moreover, I expect the mass majority to forget BHVR's screw up as soon as they do collab Poppy Playtime or Marvel or whatever popular franchise that doesn't make sense in DbD, but generates enough sweet, sweet cash.
