Would you wait longer for balanced matches?
Right now mmr prioritizes matchmaking time over fair matches. So if both is not an option the search radius gets wider to cut down the waiting time.
If you always could choose between two ques (still same player pool), would you choose the slower option?

Yes, my match times are instant but teammates and killers are wildly different skills than me. I'm very mid, but I get matched with 3 hours newbs or 10000 hour maniacs.

I would easily wait 10 minutes for some decent teammates. I spend more time than that in instantly hopeless matches.

I think the time for that has passed and DBD might not have the population left to sustain that.

That wasnt the question. :)
I dont want to know if its possible or which problems it could have, i want to know if people would use it.
But i dont mean two separate player pools. Players could still match with each other.
The real problem would be that players on really high mmr wouldnt find matches if everyone takes the slower que.

I would easily wait around 5 max to 10 minutes

It really depends on how slow the slow but closer matched MMR queue was. I wouldn't accept half a match's length worth of wait time just to get into a single match. That's why I've been playing survivor so much this last month - I can't stand the killer queue times. My comfort zone is probably sub-minute wait times.
That said, if I was consistently getting stomped a few matches then my tolerance for the slower match times would probably adjust accordingly.

I guess it depends on how long and how much better.
A minute or two more and everything is matched up really well, sure. A minute or two more and only a slight improvement, no. If we get into the five to ten minutes, no, I'm not interested in waiting around that long.

Probably not I like the fast queue but one thing they could try is no lobby. You select your loadout > > click play > > load in game, no lobby dodging= better matchmaking because autofill ignores matchmaking rules and then you get 10k hour player in a baby lobby. The lobby is what causes a lot of downtime

I too would like to see that tested out. I've long believed that the lobby dodging and shopping around causes most of the gross mismatches.

So it seems Survivor MMR needs to be tweaked

Gladly, but the fact that lobbies are still a thing completely ruins matchmaking in the first place. Why even matchmake people if someone can just dodge the lobby for any reason, and some random backfill joins completely outside of the MMR range they're supposed to be in and ruins everything? Pregame lobby should be removed if BHVR want matchmaking to actually be improved.
Just have your perks and everything lock in the moment you queue up, then you get a popup to accept your match like in other big multiplayer games. No more backfill, way, way easier to tweak for the devs. Lobbies are an outdated relic that don't work with skill based matchmaking.

I started in 2021 and that was just the normal night time survivor queue.

After experiencing the killer queue hell that was the last few months after 2v8 through Five Nights at Freddy's chapter, I can absolutely say I prefer speed generally. There was a period of a few months where I only played survivor even though I usually play killer more just because of how bad the queues were.
I am willing to wait 2-3 minutes max on average for a good match, after that it starts to get excessive. If I occasionally wait longer that it is fine, but those days of waiting 10-15min every time I queued was just too much.

I would much prefer more balanced matches. When everyone is uneven playing field, the matches are more fun. Whether you win or lose, you feel like you had a chance.
I get matches with teammates that probably just installed the game, and sometimes I get matches with a killer that probably just installed the game. Either way, one-sided matches whether we’re just sitting here popping five generators and leaving without a single person being hooked or the killer has seven hooks and not one generator has popped are not fun matches.
it’s not about winning or losing for me. It’s about feeling like there’s a purpose to me playing. If we get all the generators popped and only one of us gets out, or even nobody gets out, but we were that close, I consider that a good game.
likewise, when I do escape in the game was very tight, I consider that a good game.
but those are few and far between. Most of the time it’s either we get a killer that shouldn’t be in the lobby whatsoever, or I get teammates that should not be paired with me whatsoever versus a killer that should be paired with me. I don’t know how many games I’ve had recently where I’m the last one standing and it’s gone either but it’s basically one versus one because my teammates were useless. Even if I take chase for the majority of the they maybe managed to pop one generator like I don’t know what they’re doing.
But lopsided matches, whether I win or lose them are just plain not fun. So if I have to wait a little longer to get good matches, I’d gladly do that..

where everyone is ON AN even playing field*
voice to text screwed me over and for some reason it doesn’t let me edit it

YES.
I mean, right now most of my matches (solo queue survivor) feel like a waste of time anyway, so I'd happily wait longer for the chance to play against a more evenly matched opponent. I'd watch videos while waiting.
But as long as lobby dodging is allowed, that will never happen. In every other lobby, there's at least one survivor dodging the lobby. Or I get into a lobby where all four players are already ready. Or the killer dodges, which is the worst of all because the replacement is guaranteed to be at least five classes better than us.

Rapid matchmaking without DCs seems like a waste of time to be honest. Why would you want to get dirty matches that you're forced to stay in and can't reroll? Now that going next is out, I'd rather spend a couple minutes getting into a trial that's more likely to last a bit longer and be fun to be in. Granted, waiting 10 minutes isn't ideal for anyone, so it'd have to be less than that.

This discussion is pointless because the bad matchmaking is by design. Behavior doesn't want matchmaking to be good. They are completely fine with 300 hour survivors getting matched with 5000 hour quad slowdown blights. Or a trapper who just installed the game getting matched with a SWF where everyone has 5k hours. We had a more strict system when MMR was released and they quickly scrapped it after people started losing their minds. It's 100% intentional.

Depends how long. 5 minutes sure, 10 minutes would be pushing it. I'd wait but I'd be inclined to only play a game or two before logging off. I'm keen to see what MMR improvements they have coming, but I'm disappointed it's so far away tbh

This is something that I have wanted for a long time. I feel like the lobby at this point only serves to waste your time. It's just people on both sides dodging and delaying you from actually getting into a match. I think people should be ready to play when they click play. If you need to do something else then do it before you click play. I really don't understand what purpose the lobby actually serves in 2025. I literally never see anyone using it to strategize. All other things like choosing items, cosmetics, etc can be done before you click play.
