Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

What's the update on Skull Merchant?

It's been several months since she's been intentionally nerfed to the point that she's unplayable and so far we've only gotten 2 update notices that both went poorly that had the intent of removing her identity on how she's played.

There's been several changes made to the base game with the gen kick limit and haste being shown makes her a bit more telegraphed of what's happening. Any chances to revert her back to her 2.0 state or some buffs to make her feel better until the rework. What's the update on her at least?

Yes, this is something I have been paying attention to.

We haven't had any news on Skull Merchant since the Reddit AMA, and even that wasn't exactly promising:

I have discussed those a few times, but long story short:

"Retain trap playstyle". This one is good and there are no negatives about it. Preserving the trap playstyle is extremely important and I was happy when I read it. The other two, however, are far more concerning.

"Remove passive lethality". This one is a contradiction. Because trap killers have passive lethality, that is the point of a trap killer. The active part of their playstyle is setting up and creating your web, and this web of traps they create passively acquires results. This is true for Trapper and Hag. Trapper doesn't manually control his traps to go around the map chomping survivors, and Hag doesn't move her phantasms until a teleport is available. These killers have passive gains, that is how it should work.

"The Buddy Drone": this one is, by far, the worst of the three, and easily the most concerning. The only information we have regarding this feature is the second design preview, where the Buddy Drone was exactly what she shouldn't have: ranged M2. I believe I speak for all SM mains here when I say that, if we wanted to play a M2 killer, we wouldn't have chosen Skull Merchant. There are plenty of other killers with projectiles and ranged M2 attacks. Skull Merchant shouldn't become another one of those.

The reply does say to keep an eye out for more communications, but so far we haven't gotten anything. Granted, this was before the massive problems of the TWD Chapter release, so this could have delayed whatever they had planned, most likely a third design preview if I were to guess.

But none of that justifies leaving SM in her current state.

I still get results with her using a stealth build. But i suppose its very map dependant, she always wins on rpd for some reason lol. But yea shes nowhere near where she used to be. My friend is also waiting to hear what they are doing to Trickster. Ill admit tho since kaneki came in people don't seem to mind her and auto dc anymore (maybe because the nerf, or the go next prevention)

    • The game has so many problems and bugs, I don't think it's a great idea to prioritize a killer who has always been problematic... I think she was the most reworked killer in the history of the game. At this moment I would prioritize Clown, Kaneki, Deadslinger and Houndmaster bugs, a buff for Trapper... in short, this game has other urgent matters.
