Anonymous mode
So I've got someone say my name in the end-game chat - even tho I am on anonymous mode…
Guess it's not safe.

Were you livestreaming? Maybe a stream sniper?

Does anyone mode change your name in eng game chat.? I don't think so.
I think the behind it is that you can't just say horrible things and make threats to people while hiding behind an anonymous tag in end game chat. This feature is to keep everybody else safe and report those who the most extreme spectrum of unsportsmanlike behavior. So just don't type

Cheater? There are already people who can see the killer, their add-ons, and their perks in the lobby. Wouldn’t surprise me if you just ran into a cheater. Did the account look “clean” to you?

Nah, I am not. Haven't been for some time ;p

Account had a 700-800 days VAC ban ;p but he didn't seem like a cheater in game.

Have you also set "hide your name"?
If you turn this on, your character's name will be displayed in chat instead of your player name.Since your name is visible in the chat box, it's likely that this setting is turned off.

Cheaters can see names even if they are anon

cheater most likely if anon mode was on before lobby. “Hide your own name” is client side and doesn’t matter, and the exploit that existed back in the day to see anon was patched very fast.

Doesn't it work just for yourself? If you're anon it still doesn't display your name in the endgame chat

Its happened to me too, I am not a streamer. And the killer was not in my friends list on steam.

Almost certainly a cheater trying to scare you.

Your name can be read.
This is probably because you don't have the "hide your name" setting enabled.Try talking to yourself in the survivor lobby.
You will notice that your name changes depending on whether "hide your name" is on or off. Also, your player name in the top right-hand corner of the screen will change to "You."
Your name displayed in the friends list will also be "You."
This feature is a setting for streamers.-1 -
Not the point. It hides your name for yourself only.
Anonymous hides your name for everyone but you

The 'hide your name' setting is indeed for streamers, but purely so viewers can't stream snipe. Viewers can see what the streamer sees, hence it hides the name, including in chat. Anonymous mode is supposed to be so everyone else can't see your name.

The “hide your own name” setting is client side. It only hides your name from yourself. Other people can see your name just fine.

If you are on steam I believe you can pull up the steam overlay and view "recently played with" which will show everybodys name in the lobby you played with regardless of anon mode

I have experienced something similar in the past. It was over a year ago, but once I played a match in anonymous mode and one of the killed survivors went to complain about my playstile, so they said "4000 hours and playing like that?". It was weird, because my playtime on Steam at that time was indeed above 4000 hours and below 5000. That lead me to believe that either the anonymous mode didn't work at that time because of some bug or there is a way of still seeing the profile of someone in anonymous mode.
