Hag Trap Exploit by Survivors
SUMMARY OF THE ISSUE:
Hag traps will not swing the camera if the survivor is looking backwards toward the trap when the trap is triggered.
PLATFORM: ALL (I'm on PS5)
STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW THE ISSUE OCCURED:
- Create a private match with a Hag and have the Hag draw some traps in an open area.
- As a survivor turn you camera to face behind you 180 degrees and move towards a trap that you are looking at.
- When the trap triggers, the camera will not swing and you can quickly run away.
- In cluttered areas, even if you teleport immediately by spamming the teleport button, you won't even see the survivor.

If you are on PC, could you please attach the logs?
To find them:
- Press the Windows Key + R to open the "Run" command.
- In the text box paste the following: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\DeadByDaylight\Saved\Logs
- Click "OK" - this will open your Dead by Daylight Logs folder.
- If it does not open the Dead by Daylight Logs folder, it may mean that when installing Dead by Daylight you chose to save your files somewhere else and will need to check there.
- The file called "DeadByDaylight.log" is your log file
Thank you.

Hey Rizzo,
I updated the report to show that I'm on PS5, so there's no logs that I can attach.

Not sure if this an actual bug.
Survivors call it a "tech" and while it is abusing a mechanic, I don't think it's unintended.
Anyway, the Hag should get a speed boost when teleporting to an activated trap, so this "tech" will stop.

Tbf almost all of the things we call "techs" are just bugs or exploits.

SUMMARY OF THE ISSUE:
Survivors can reliably bypass The Hag’s power by using a simple movement technique that guarantees they will be out of her hit range when she teleports to a triggered trap. This interaction allows survivors to safely trigger and remove traps with no meaningful risk, effectively shutting down The Hag’s power for the remainder of the trial if even one survivor employs this strategy.
From The Hag’s perspective, there is no viable counterplay. Upon teleporting, she experiences a brief slowdown, while the survivor, already sprinting in the opposite direction at full speed, cannot be caught or punished. Given The Hag’s 110% movement speed and the delay after teleporting, any chase that follows is almost always unfavorable for her.
This has a significant impact on gameplay, reducing The Hag’s viability and undermining her core mechanic.
PLATFORM:
All platforms
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
- Survivor runs while facing the camera backward (so their character is moving in the opposite direction from where the camera is pointed).
- Survivor triggers a Hag trap.
- Upon teleport, the Hag arrives to find the survivor automatically facing away, already moving at maximum speed, and safely out of hit range.
- The survivor can break the trap with no real risk, repeating this process to disable The Hag’s power entirely.

- This behavior has existed for many years and is widely known in the community.
- It requires minimal skill and is easily repeatable once a player is aware of it.
- The lack of counterplay severely limits The Hag’s effectiveness and overall fun for those who enjoy playing her.

I explained this bug in more detail, here.
I also included a video.
Edit: It looks like mine was removed. Let's keep it all in one report, please.

I'm sorry, I think I somehow also posted twice? Or was my report moved?

I merged it into this one so we can have all the info together! <3

how long does it normally take for these bugs to get reviewed etc ? i was just wondering sorry if this isn't the place to ask <3

We do not provide ETAs, unfortunately.

ah okay! hopefully it's soon since this has been a bug since her release years ago </3

If you’re looking for suggestions on how to address this issue, I have a few.
First and foremost, I recommend removing the forced camera pull ("yoink") when a survivor triggers a trap. It doesn't prevent the survivor from moving away from the phantasm as intended (in fact it makes it easier to move away frame perfectly.)
As for a solution, the most effective and fair fix would be to apply a very brief (0.5 second) Hindered status effect to survivors who trigger a trap. Right now, survivors can remove Hag’s traps without using any resources (except time.) If survivors make the mistake of triggering a trap and The Hag teleports immediately, there should be some form of consequence for the survivor.
Alternatively, you could allow The Hag to immediately lunge after teleporting, giving her a chance to capitalize on good reaction timing. That said, I would avoid combining both a survivor hinder and an instant lunge, as that will overcorrect the issue.
Personally, I think Hag already feels clunky to play, and the best way to improve that without making her oppressive would be to give survivors a very brief (0.5 second) hindered effect upon trap activation. That along with removing the camera pull would restore some pressure and threat to her power.

The fix should be simple. (If I understand that issue that has made me stop playing Hag months ago)
Instead of turning the camera toward the trap (and thus making the survivor looking back do an instant 180 away) turn instead the body toward the trap.
That way the original (intended, as far as I know) behavior is preserved and survivors can't exploit the camera anymore.

You are very close drsoontm, to what needs to be done, and what they will probably do. Both the body, and head, need to face the trap for a set amount of time (I think it's like 0.1 seconds), which would completely eliminate the issue. This is one reason as to why the trap radius was reduced, instead of increased, when they updated the hag to help with TP hits. Unfortunately, those changes also created the current problem, as they only made the survivors head face the trap, instead of the whole body.
As for what HuskyDogLover is proposing, that is way off. The Hag can already immediately lunge after a TP, and that lunge is extended because the Hag loses all momentum after a TP and needs to start running from a complete stand-still. Any kind of hinder effect would be extremely overpowering, just look at what happened to the Clown. I like the Hag (a.k.a. Lisa Sherwood), but I don't want to see her overpowered like some other killers are.
