Why the newest update could be good
The recent anti-tunneling and slugging changes seem to punish killers, but I believe they could be a hidden opportunity for a healthier game.
By clearly defining what they don't want (slugging/tunneling), BHVR has essentially forced themselves to address the root cause: some killers need those tactics to win. If the changes are effective, it will blatantly expose which killers are underpowered without them.
This is good because it creates a clear mandate for BHVR to buff and rework those struggling killers. This could lead to a game where every killer is both fun to play and strong enough to win without resorting to unfun strategies. Sure, perk balances and new SWF tactics will need attention, but that's always the case.
The potential is there. Now it's on BHVR to seize this chance to finally buff weaker killers and move the game in a better direction for everyone.

It could be but from what we've seen in the past I highly doubt it. After all its already blatantly obvious which killers are considerably weaker than others and BHV hasnt really done anything in recent times to close the gap to S-tier killers. Unfortuanetely those are also the killers that will probably suffer the most in the new update. But since those old killers dont really make any money I dont think they will adress it but those killers will probably get the SM treatment. And even if they did, it would probably be 1 to 2 years until they come up with some weird new system to "buff" those killers.

Behaviour will not buff the weaker killers. I mean look at skull merchant, she's been dead for a year now. Trickster is meant to get a rework and it's been multiple years and nothing. They will never change trapper so he'll always be f tier. It took them years to change Freddy. They either nerf c tier killers on the ptb and then revert them or buff them way too much and then revert them. For evidence of Behaviour not caring with just this new patch, the twins and Sadako aren't gettting changed at all. The Twins are the killers that are most affected by the slugging changes and they get nothing. No changes, absolutely nothing. Then there's Sadako. She will now be gutted by the tunneling changes and there's no mention of her on the patch notes.

It sounds nice, but BHVR has left a lot of older killers in the trash bin for years. As the amount of content and the amount of bugs in the game keeps growing larger and larger, there’s even less resource available to update older killers that badly need it. I wouldn’t get your hopes up.

DBD is a 1v4 game made up of a series of 1v1 chases. If you're going to nuke killers' ability to compete in the 1v4, then you'd need to dramatically buff them in the 1v1. Except… survivors don't want that, either. Every power needs a 10 second wind up complete with visual and audio cues that can be dodged on reaction. Look at how survivors complain about Blight, Nurse and Kaneki. And I don't blame them. It feels bad to take hits when you didn't do anything wrong. But something has to give somewhere. Because as it stands, BHVR has been cutting killers off at the knees in the 1v4 for years. Look at all the regression nerfs. Anti-slug. Anti-tunnel. Mangled nerfs. Anything that slows survivors down at the macro level has been absolutely destroyed.
Do you honestly believe that BHVR is going to buff every killer up into S tier? I don't. Because that's what would need to happen if this patch goes through.

I mean, the best way to fix this problem would have been to not let it become a problem in the first place. What if BHVR had implemented anti-slugging and anti-tunneling changes back when the issue first emerged? From what I've heard, these tactics have been prevalent since the game's release.
If they had set those boundaries early on, every killer released from that point forward would have been designed with that handicap in mind. Instead, due to procrastination, they now have to go back and rework/buff what feels like 80% of the cast.

By clearly defining what they don't want (slugging/tunneling), BHVR has essentially forced themselves to address theI think this part is correct. Balancing a game where some people play "fair" with limitations to give a challenge, and others take the easiest possible route, is a hard way to hold a game together.
If they do the numbers right (which is a big ask) the whole idea of 'fair' play should go out the window. Want to tunnel? Here are the pro/cons. Want to spread pressure? Here are the pro/cons.
root cause: some killersneedthose tactics to win.Part of the issue here, and I think this is coming up in a lot of posts, is that the 'to win' is frequently 'to win every match'. That's not a realistic standard and whenever BHVR posts their numbers for how killers are doing even those that are listed at lower tiers are doing fine.
The other issue is the differing skill floors/ceilings that some killers have. Some killers are monsters at low MMR because of how easy they are to pick up, its again not realistic that such a killer would also be elite at higher MMRs.
