The Forums isn't what it use to be. The negativity is too much and it's time for me to go.
With this being said, I am going to take a bit of a break from here. The atmosphere here as of lately is just full of hostility, hate, and tons of people that are willing to just downvote you instead of having a meaningful, productive conversation. The insults people throw at you for having an opinion is absurd.
Thoughts and beliefs change ALL the time. Its about working through all of this together but people would rather do the above. I am going to reserve my energy for now and come back later at a time when the atmosphere is a little less heavy and hopefully just a little kinder. I might be asking for too much though.

Yep, forum lately is just constant crying and raw emotions without discussing at all. Also constant us vs them with insane biases on both sides is exhausting to read. Some survivor mains seems like seat here literally for nothing except write "oh it's end of the world, this is unplayable and this is too, all things are killer sided, bhvr is bad, everything is bad", because there are a lot of people who discuss literally nothing, but only throw their biases under every post.
You are one of few people with whom I feel like can discuss something civilly, even if we have disagreements, and I would like more people with this mentality here. Come back when you feel it.10 -

yeah this community is just increasingly toxic and it gets worse as more people fall into the “us vs them” propaganda. It’s not about mutual enjoyment anymore. It’s about them and what will benefit them and their playstyle alone. It’s become a very selfish community.

People still don't see the "them vs us" is constructed by behavior to have the player base be against each other instead of behavior the The culprit behind all the incompetency that's been happening with the game's balance. Survivors lashing out at killers? Because behavior releases blatantly fair updates. Behavior needs killers up in arms because they mismanaged an update with bugs and have an embarrassing walking Dead stream. Tell them a horrible unsubtle anti tunneling and slugging system is coming. Wait!! It was to much!! Take it away buff killers and nerf survivor perks!! Ahh perfect level of toxicity added to the community.

Absolutely agree. I’ve been around these forums long enough to remember their removal way back when and that they said they would “never” bring them back. I don’t understand why they’ve reverted course.
All it does is foster negativity and discourage discussion, which is antithetical to a discussion board. Seriously, the number of times I’ll try and offer a measured opinion and get hit with 5, 10, 20+ downvotes but zero replies is so demoralising. Like what happened to the actual discussion? Everyone just downvotes and moves on.

Not to mention that, for whatever reason, threads that get some arbitrary amount of downvotes simply do not get pushed back up anymore.

The system might work for other forums, but it’s such a bad idea for an asymmetric game forum. Like, you have two opposing sides of different strengths who rarely see eye to eye on issues as a result of having a fundamentally different game experiences. So naturally, any post that seemingly “favours” one side, attracts the ire (and downvotes) of the other, even if what’s being said is perfectly reasonable.
The recent anti-Tunneling/slugging fiasco is the perfect example of this. If you said you like parts of the system: downvoted. If you said you don’t like parts of the system: downvoted. If you didn’t care: downvoted. There’s no winning lol, and it’s like this for every issue these days.

Of course not. Disagreement is good — it’s the point of a discussion forum. But sadly that’s not what everyone uses downvotes for. There’s some people who just downvote anything they see by X user they dislike, or anything that doesn’t benefit their preferred role etc.
They’re too easily weaponised, which is why they were removed years ago. It’s only recently they decided to bring them back.

Down with Down Votes! This isn't Reddit. I got down voted just for sharing my P100 Legion.
Sometimes you'll write a post with a fair bit of nuance and you're left wondering what it was you said that earned you the down votes. I can't imagine it's useful information to the devs. After all, we all have our biases (especially towards our preferred roles/Killers/playstyles etc). Anyone who who thinks they're not at least a little bit biased is lying to themselves.
Down votes foster a stronger Us Vs Them atmosphere for sure. One that's already present because of the nature of the game. It's super easy for certain unpopular points of view to get lost in the noise. That said, we've had some big changes come to the game recently and other big changes that were promised but indefinitely postponed. All of that has made for more emotive discussions. That's kind of unavoidable given how passionate about the game players can be.
Anyway, it's always good to take a break for your own sanity. Things will cool down eventually.

i like the forums at this point. getting confronted with the forum mindset is proof of the community’s overall mindset. it actually helps me play max-efficient, with zero regard for anything else.
keeps telling and showing me i’m doing everything right in-game. :D

Shame to see another long-time user go. From what I remember seeing you around, you seemed generally very reasonable too.
I've definitely noticed a shift in atmosphere around here lately. Downvotes probably contributed to that, as such a system encourages dunking on people over having a conversation.

I hope the forums mods seriously consider how much more toxic the forum has become with the downvote feature being restored. We were initially told it was a “test” but then zero information after that about what the test was actually for and what the rationale was for bringing back the downvote feature. It has made this forum a far less inclusive place for diverse opinions.
The other big issue is the surge of “us vs them” toxicity. There’s so much troll bait out there to antagonize “the other side”. All you have to do is look for the words “killer main” or “survivor main” in a comment to identify it. Obviously the mods can’t force people to play both sides, but it would be nice to see efforts to reduce the “us vs them” trolling.2 -
things haven't been great lately so I've been trying to maintain positive thoughts with a hiatus myself. the post FNAF hype crash followed by getting excited for smoke bombs has made me numb, as well as the whole Walking Dead fiasco.
Angela from Rivals has been crack to me. I'm hoping the growing pains from the upcoming changes will help foster some positivity. stay safe out there Mech

Hello MechWarrior, I just want to tell you that downvotes shouldn’t matter to you. I’ve received plenty of downvotes on Reddit just for sharing my opinion, and honestly, I don’t care at all. In fact, you should feel proud of getting downvotes, because to me it shows that you have the ability to be yourself even if it goes against the community. For me, being ourselves is the most important thing.

There's no discussions on these forums anymore, it's all just people blinded by biases screaming at each other. No one has anything to talk about, they just want to yell at walls, repeating the same thing they've been shouting for the past 5 years. And the moderators do nothing about it.
There's no reason to stay here anymore except to gawk at how horrible this place is.

Its too much for me. I just am just wore out with the endless negativity lately and mental abuse from people over a forums page about a videogame. My goal was to bring as much value as possible to the forums as I could. I certainly did my best.

I'll add that I've always been neutral on the downvote option, it hasn't bothered me, but if it's going to start driving people from the forum then I vote too that we just remove them.

I feel like discourse on all platforms has taken a major hit across all social media platforms. It's either ragebaiting, incoherent screaming or downright passive aggressive snarkiness. I want to say it's been a main theme ever since the Walking Dead chapter where people are quite comfortable for just saying that the game's dead/dying and are looking for ways to lash out at bhvr or other people.

Its about how people disagree.
Disagreeing respectfully is perfectly understandable, and a good thing. We learn more through dialectics than we do through echo chambers, having opinions challenged reasonably is the foundation that we use to expand our perspectives. Many people don't like to be challenged, and instead curate their interactions down to those they agree with, and those they refuse to find common ground with. It gets worse the more people hunker down into us vs them and refuse to understand any perspective they don't agree with. And what better way to show disapproval without actually bringing anything to the table than just hitting downvote and walking away?
People should be able to have reasonable discourse. They should want to. But unfortunately many are so used to seeking validation and disregarding opposition that discourse just doesn't really happen that often anymore.
Edit: The fact this got a downvote and no response kinda proves my point.

While we haven't always seen eye to eye in our statements, I have also seen so much negativity lately.
Hopefully, this will be a wake up call, and actions would be taken to quell most of it.
I too think the downvotes was a bad idea, as it absolutely killed discussions in a meaningful way.

I've lurked for years and it seems a little better than it used to be. Though I'm not a fan of how things operate at times.
I'm not trying to start anything by saying this, but I did notice a thread disappear very quickly recently asking for BHVR to consider making a new original Survivor that's male since we haven't had one for a while meanwhile there's a thread with a headless man that's still on the front page.
I'm just saying, priorities still seem all over the place and that tends to make people walk on eggshells.

Could we have a statement from a community manager about potentially having down votes removed?
Feels like it just contributes to the negative culture around the community, as it's easy to see comments get no feedback but lots of downvotes whilst a "Killer/survivor is AWFUL and ALWAYS HAS BEEN and BHVR STOLE MY LUNCH MONEY and KICKED MY DOG" comment will get 7 or 8 likes just cause it was sent under an actually valid problem that needs attention.
I get it, I think we all do. This game is far from perfect and there are plenty of reasons to be less than satisfied with the way it's been handled over the years. There's genuinely so much whining on this forum it makes me wonder why a some of the users here haven't quit after week 2. DBD has always been a frustrating experience, but it feels more and more like player behavior is becoming a bigger part of that frustration than game mechanics are (not for lack of trying though)
I hope the situation improves enough for you to rejoin us eventually, and I definitely don't blame you for calling it here. See you in the fog!

I don't understand the need for people to have dramatic exits, I just can't grasp the concept. Nevertheless I wish you all the best.
I find it frightening that people are demanding a person should single-handedly disable downvotes. It shows that some people have a strange worldview, where whatever a vocal minority seems to have decided is immediately carried out with the stroke of a pen (spoiler: nothing has been decided).
It's awkward, the mindset of people trying to remove a way to express for OTHER PEOPLE how they feel about a topic or a statement. People seem to use the argument that if you downvote, you're obliged to explain why you downvoted. Why? Who made that rule? Is this a chapter in the Upvoters Handbook for Downvoters? Nobody seems to expect an explanation on an upvote. Kinda strange if you think about it, you could like something but for a completely different reason (again: which nobody asks for, but when it's a downvote, then it's asked for). Or maybe you only agree partially. Maybe you just like the style of a post. Doesn't matter, right? For upvotes, there are different "rules". Yeah, it doesn't make sense. Ok ok ok, but anyway, when can we remove downvotes?

There are reasons why people do not agree, and they should be able to (even if you think they should not). But apparently, that's a big thing in today's society, which is: make the symptom invisible so we don't even have to acknowledge that there is a root cause. That's all well and good, but the vast majority of the time, the downvote is used as a mere "I don't like this" button. No one's saying people can't disagree on things, that's why we have a forum to begin with. We could say the same for your interpretation. I'd also refer to the fact that I'm not the only one saying this, as there have been a fair few forum veterans who were opposed to downvotes from the moment they were reintroduced as a "test".
As for the upvotes being meaningless, I might not even disagree with that as a concept, tbh. Though it must be said that a community manager stated that they tend to see upvote counts as a method to gauge what the current hot topics are among the community.
The thing is that downvotes do that in a negative, and frankly rather lazy manner, whereas upvotes do it in a positive manner, that also encourage posters to make well-thought out posts.
Furthermore, when someone agrees… I'm not sure what you would expect someone to add? If you fully agree with someone, it's pointless to just repeat their, well points. If you don't agree, you need to say why. And not just click a button.
