Feel Like They'd Rather Reward Money Spending Than Time?
I remember years ago when they announced the prestige rework and how we'd get a "distinct reward" and I was hoping for legacy cosmetics 2.0 or something to show how long we've played and how we prestiged before it was practical. 2025, all we have to show for it is character portraits no one else can even see. I get they don't want anyone to feel left out (except for poor people lol) but then why do players still have 2016 legacy cosmetics? I'm not asking BHVR take them away, quite the opposite, lets add some for 2022 as well.
Now you can prestige to 100 for absolutely nothing. I did it, I prestiged both Cheryl and Legion all the way to 100 and all I got was people in end game going "lol u spend so much time in this game" it's not bragging rights, even if it was, that is not enough. Why can you pay for auric cells and get a cosmetic, but you can't be loyal to the game for years and get a special cosmetic for that?
Why do they keep adding licenses you have to pay for that don't even suit the game? I mean can you imagine when the Halloween chapter released looking into the future and seeing DBD has Kaneki chasing Nicholas Cage on a bright corn map? I said before, successful does not mean good. DBD isn't even the smash bros of horror, it's the Fortnite of "horror" and I wanna see this game have an actual vision and love, not to be milked for money and new players while people who have stayed loyal to the game for years watch it get force fed another license with a killer that's an abomination of other killers that are already in the game. I don't even see love for some of these licenses, Spring Trap, for example, got a boring map and recycled powers.
Why don't they try buffing the more unique characters that have been in the game for years? I don't mean re-working into another dash killer (Micheal) I mean actually give them the love players have begged for for literal years. You could have started with just buffing Micheal's stage 1. You could give Legion a longer frenzy and make them able to see blood. You could make some of trapper's add ons base kit, but no they wanna add more boring killers so people who like the other franchises stop by and play their game.
I get people are constantly complaining about this and that, but this game feels like a soulless cash grab.
Or just delete Sable Ward, then we're good.

We should absolutely get rewards for things like hitting p100, I agree. The licenses are the lifeblood of DBD so I'm not really bothered by those. One thing I really despise however is how common Very Rare cosmetics are. Every new set releases as one, even if it's broken. The rarity is so high that you're unlikely to get it without AC and I think that's really crappy to do to the audience.

I get why they have so many licenses (basically just money and new players tbh) they should be prioritizing the games actual health tho.

A new legacy cosmetic would be pointless because it would be super common, which would defeat the whole purpose of having it in the first place (wanting to show off something super rare). Nobody would use it after a couple of days.

I mean there are P100 rewards coming up, they were just delayed to make room for all of the upcoming improvements due to the recent buggy releases.
I'm not sure where the argument that Tokyo Ghoul doesn't fit in with DBD comes from. There's a good amount of horror in it, and I think people are quick to discount that just because it's an anime. He absolutely fits into DBD imo.
Nic Cage is probably a more decent argument but considering Survivors are literally just people, it's kind of whatever. Horror and comedic relief go hand in hand a lot of the time too, I think people tend to forget that.

it seems people will always try to gatekeep what is classified as horror and what should and shouldnt be added to the game unfortunantly. I dont care at this point who or what gets added at this point i just want them to be fun true to the character and not buggy.

Less pointless that a portrait, besides I think we'd see less than you think with the new characters.

Understandable. I am glad for you if it's only about the fun. I care a lot about atmosphere.

I don't consider the anime horror, for an anime it's just got some dark horror elements. I know Kaneki is also dark but he's an anime protagonist for crying out loud. Him in DBD is like a bad fanfic. (reposted cuz I missed the reply button like a smart person)

dont get me wrong i care for atmosphere too but its a matter of presentation. Take Vecna for example he is a dnd big bad but to make him fit into dbd they double down on the elements of horror that were already there. If Vecna could work by leaning into these elements why cant someone like The Collector General from Mass Effect 2 work? Everyone and their mother knows mass effect is an action game series but if the Collectors kidnap people and turn them into goo to fuel a giant lovecraftian machine witn the soul purpose of destroying all life in the galaxy. If you double down on those elements it could work you would just have to change up the presentation of the character.

It's the theme that's the issue. I think Junji Ito was a perfect fit, but Tokyo Ghoul or Attack On Titan aren't. But considering how much they've branched off of the original feel ever since All-Kill, I can't really complain about it. If anything there's no excuse not to add Scooby-Doo anymore.

I don't agree with this statement 🙃 but I do agree with some of your post.
As someone who got to P100, and dedicated time into a character, I too feel that there should be better rewards for doing so. Like I have mentioned before in other threads, there should definitely be a cosmetic reward for P100.
Not sure about the tighter licenses, but some of them I am sure could get a special prestige cosmetic to show off some dedication with.
Now, it so happened that I decided to go all the way with Sable, and get her to P100. So, I don't think they should delete her5 -
Thats always the case. Like noone uses those skins when they come out, they all become only popular after three or more years.
Every rare skin was irrelevant at the start, the only exception are skins, which require a high skill level to get. Or a superexpensive (buy this phone for 1k, travel to this specific place on that date).

It makes more sense when you realize bhvr’s whole design philosophy is jingling some keys in front of new players, reeling them in with exclusive skins, survivors, or killers, and then pocketing the money when they inevitably leave. There is no recognition for veterans, unless you consider the 200k bp they gave to players for playing the game for 5+ years as appreciation.

I'm not sure why Tokyo Ghoul isn't a good fit specifically. I'd be more inclined to agree with Attack On Titan, but Tokyo Ghoul is filled with a lot of horror elements and is very gorey.

We still don't have any thing for devotion 😭

It's not really about whether it's horror or not, it's the kind of horror. I feel like DBD presented itself as something more Wes Craven or Rob Zombie adjacent when it first launched and it more or less kept that feel for a while. Junji Ito fits that category well to me. But the more flamboyant presentation, which is emblematic of things like Kpop and anime, betrays that feeling. But there's a lot of ways to look at it too. The game has to change over time and material starts to run thin, so it makes sense to branch out. They also have to appeal to a shifting audience, which is why I think we're getting flashier things as time goes on as well. But that's just my opinion.
I can't recall but it sounds familar.
I'm fine with that, since we get Shards. But it would be neat to have a little badge for every 5 Devotion levels or something.

Not gonna lie Wes Craven's work is full of theatrics and comedy. Freddy Kruger is always quipping one-liners and the like, it's generally quite flamboyant.
Scream was quite satirical in nature as well.

Even The Last House On The Left was strangely half-comedy. But that's not what I mean. It's hard to describe, but I know it when I feel it kinda thing.

I totally get what you're saying. I think most of the recent licenses are ill-suited. It's not about comedy, and Wes Craven was indeed pretty much a satirist. There's been a shift in the vibe of what they're choosing, a different energy. Having a big cartoony vampire, Lara Croft, and a screeching anime boy alongside Leatherface, Michael Myers, and Chucky feels hella weird to me. Maybe its the different between life action and animated/game franchises idk
1 -
For sure, and even Lara is sketchy because she should theoretically fit. But she doesn't.

Yeah the games have horror elements, she does make sense. But she feels weird. Yet Nick Cage doesn't feel weird to me. And it's not a modern vs classic thing because Stranger Things and TWD both feel fine to me too, despite not caring one single bit about either of those franchises.

Honestly BHVR should hire us for the vibe department. 😝
