Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

dead by daylight should have an official ranked queue

i think this would make the game a lot more enjoyable for both casuals and tryhards.

pros off the top of my head:

increase engagement with tryhards

reduce toxicity and one-sided games

great fun with like minded players for both casual and ranked queue

possible cons:

increased queue time if only marginally. dbd has a massive playerbase so it shouldnt be a problem.

things to make ranked queue work:

  • a visible and functional mmr or tiers
  • some gameplay modifiers such as see your teammates loadout in the lobby, maybe some kind of communication for every survivor even in soloq

this would give the tryhards the environment they want so that casual games remain mostly casual.

why a ranked queue:

we all know that a 4 man swf that goofs off isnt the same as a 4 man comp team.

likewise with a (for example) pyramid head who employs disgusting strats like camping and tunneling with the meta loadout vs a phead that plays for 12 hooks and picks random feel good perks.

lastly:

some may say that tryhards will continue to play casual queue. i predict otherwise. look at other competitive games like league. tryhards dont want easy games and they dont care about bp. they want tryhard competition.

i believe there are some significant amount of gamers in general who will rarely play anything other than ranked queues because these guys are addicted to the competition.

we all can see that there is a huge demand of official competition as seen with the amount of dbd tourneys and even a discord server specifically for ranked dbd.

The difference between DbD and games like League that have a ranked queue already, is that the game was built around the idea of being a competitive title.

okay but is that difference important today

fact is today this game is a lot more competitive because players made it so and bhvr clearly sees and even acknowledges it.

Even then lets say it does get a ranked mode. When were talking about the absolute strongest items and perks survivors can bring compared to killers, there arent nearly as many options for killers to be able to keep up. Some no restrictions tourneys showcase this where someone will try using an odd pick like Doctor and they dont really stand a chance.

So now you may be thinking: "well we can add restrictions!". And thats how you make the gamemode VERY unappealing since you are now limited even moreso as to what you can bring to be able to stand a chance. Not to mention that some of the strongest things in this game are locked behind a paywall which cant really be said for any competitive title out there.

yes indeed they'll have to add restrictions to balance the game.

but what exactly makes you say that's unappealing?

dbd tourneys with restrictions still go on. if anything restrictions may make the game a lot more fun. chaos shuffle iirc was fun because of the mix-up.

and even then it will still not appeal to everyone and that's perfectly fine. it's a separate queue. but there's a sizeable part of the community who like or don't mind stuff like this. i mean just go look at some of these 'perkless' winstreaks etc. tryhards challenge themselves just to have fun. also, the strongest killers in the game are f2p.

lastly, they can make it so that every perk is unlocked in this game mode like kyf. although i think that many veteran players already have much or everything unlocked anyway.

Giving survivors extra basekit communication is a guaranteed way to ensure that killers would avoid the ranked mode.

personally as a killer main i prefer communications because it feels like thats what the game is balanced on, but at the same time i rarely if ever play killers like trapper or faceghost

What always concerns me about a "casual and competitive mode" is that you can't keep highly competitive people out of the casual mode, ruining it for everyone. Because yes some competitive people want a challenge. But other competitive people just want to win. And if there's a "baby mode" they would much rather play on that to have games where they can crush the competition. And that would include highly skilled swfs going against less skilled killers.

"Where there's a will, there's a way." Which sucks because I would love a more casual mode where everything didn't always feel like a sweat fest or a curb stomp.

Then enjoy your quick killer queue times, because a lot of killers aren’t going to want to put up with it every game, especially if it’s voice comms.

This fact hasn't changed in the last 9 years, nobody is going to play the ranked game mode when the majority of the player base is either casual or only interested in curb-stomping casuals. You are NEVER going to get people to take this game seriously if you don't give people the mother of all incentives and actually straight up rewire how the player base thinks and treats DBD.

A ranked mode will never fix the issue of tryhards in this game, it has never been a solution to a tryhard problem in any game, and it never will be.

I think the regular 1V4 queue has become DBD's de facto ranked queue, to be honest. I know that whenever I have the opportunity to play any mode other than regular DBD, I take it (besides Lights Out because I didn't enjoy it that much). I'm guessing most others that play more casually do the same. Most streamers that I've watched tend to play very little of the alternative game modes when they're live because they attract more casual players and are less competitive by design.

I think BHVR would be better off introducing a permanent casual mode instead that restricts some of the play styles most casual players dislike going up against. That could be a fully randomised Chaos Shuffle mode with an anti-tunnel and anti-slugging system in place.

literally not true idk what to tell you. do you have evidence do you know the majority of the playerbas?

sure it may not solve the tryhard problem but tryharding isnt a problem, the problem is mixing casuals with tryhards. a ranked queue would help with that issue cant hurt. and realistically a proper mmr system to match players of equal skills is the best solution for that. the ranked queue is more intended to be a different way to enjoy dbd not fix its problems.
