For us, Ultra-Widescreen users (21:9)

Hey everyone,
Since 1.4.0, using an ultra-wide screen was getting our FOV really stretched out (Cannot see the survvivors feet!) which is a really huge handicap because it cuts the bottom and top part of our screen. I have found a solution which is really unhelpful as it needs to be changed each time we want to play Dead by Daylight and each time we want to use our screen's full potential (going into windows displays settings, and changing the resolution).
For more than one year, we were waiting for a REAL resolution setting (not just a slider which changes the size of the window and keeps the same resolution) and at least a "black bars" option which let us add black bars on the sides of our screen.

PS: I do understand that the devs removed the ability to play with more FOV (which was overpowered since we were able to see more on our sides) but at least, give us the option to play on a 16:9 aspect ratio with black bars and not a stretched out screen which keeps us from playing the game normally

Thanks in advance

Bought the game back in 2016. Just came back and was about to buy all the DLC's. Then discovered that people with Ultrawide screens play with a huge handicap. Give us sidebars instead of the unbearable stretch please. I dont expect full 21:9, but the current state is simply unplayable.

I bought the last two DLC's before discovering this. Sad to have to refund. #UltrawideUsersArePeopleToo

They proooobably don't want anyone having an advantage over the others? Especially a free shadowborn.
I don't understand how some people don't get that.

And to fix your problem maybe try changing your resolution.

There is no option to change resolution in settings. Also, I am not asking for an advantage, but leaving me with a stretched 66% of a 16:9 is a huge disadvantage. How hard can it be to just remove the 21:9 completely so we get side barred 16:9.

People who buy a widescreen monitor usually have cash to spend on DLC's. Why would you shaft that group of players?

    You're also a minority.

What does that have to do with anything?

It is not hard or expensive to remove the 21:9 chopped and stretched mess that Ultrawide useres have to deal with currently. It also wont give any one an advantage. But it will fix the current disadvantage.

Because you made it sound like the devs were missing out on a lot of money when the fact is, you guys are a minority among consumers. I agree that something should be done, but don't try to pretend you're more than a drop in the bucket - that just undermines your position.

A drop in the bucket is still just a drop in the bucket. This would be like someone demanding an Urdu translation of the game and saying the devs are denying themselves that tiny amount of money by not doing so.
It also costs money to implement things, you know. Programmers don't work for free.

Oh wow, you should totally be a CEO of a super big tech company. Or maybe just not waste your time on this thread.

I said I supported your cause, but advised you to stop pretending it's some big market when you are, in fact, a tiny minority, because it undermines your position. But if you don't want my support, that's fine.

I am completely agreeing with you but, you know it was something that actually was REMOVED from the game? They actually paid the programmers (as you were saying) to give us a disadvantage, and again I also agree on the fact that the FOV was way too wide BUT It's not a reason to kick players out of the game just because they have an ultra-wide screen.... A fix would be to actually implant an aspect ratio setting in the settings because playing on 2560x1080 resolution is not possible at this current state.

Just started playing, love the game, but feel its going to be short lived until something is changed with widescreen. Yes, giving widescreen (I'm 32:9 so its really zoomed) an actual 32:9 FOV is a disadvantage, but removing widescreen support in turn gives widescreen users a disadvantage (I barley see above my head, and barley below my stomach). This is the only recent game I've played that doenst have at least some support ...

    letterbox - nope
windowed mode - yes, but the window is stuck to the screen aspect ratio so all it does is make the window smaller, still same ratio.
Resolution settings just shrinks it ...
My monitor even has 2 inputs and I can do "PIP" to basically give me 2 different screen sources. Tried this, worked at first, then it stretched the game across the full screen which cut half my game off.

The worst part is, the matches START (character into prior to match) letterboxed ... at least give us that ...

Super-widescreen isn't "overpowered", anymore than someone with a better video card or mouse or more powerful CPU is. People won't suddenly become gifted at the game because they have a little more screen real estate.

If that were the case, we'd have to match people based on their video card, their cpu, and any other number of factors.

Was going to start a thread about this but instead I will necro this one hehe.

Any news if they will offer ultra widescreen support?

Well, we have literally no answer whatsoever from the devs (or I don't remember anything about it, but feel free to remind me if I forgot anything) on this matter, so I guess we're going to have to live with it until they notice us.

We might be a minority, but there's still enough of us out there that it would warrant the developer making the change.

For instance, I am only here because there's a sale and I was wondering if there's ultrawide support.

Anyways; any updates regarding ultrawide in this game?

  • Still no update? Mclean? Peanits?
