Please BHVR make an effort for similarly skilled players to be matched together

The current state of the game is really well represented by my last 2 days. Yesterday I escaped over 20 times in solo queue and I might have only died 2 or 3 times total. It was just effortless most of the day and the survivors I was matched weren't very good but the killers were horrible and could barely get 2 hooks.

And then today it's like the shoes on the other foot. Nothing but Blights and Ghouls and Krause and Spirits and almost all of them are running pain resonance and camping and tunneling and playing very effectively and the survivors look as bad as the killers did yesterday.

And I'm just sitting wondering where the middle ground is? I remember this game used to having competitive matches. I remember the games used to be kind of hard fought for both sides. Now it's like almost every game is just a complete blow out for one side or the other.

Why is that? And what can you do fix it? I don't know but almost anything it seems would be better than where the game is at right now.

The contrast is indeed crazy, when you play survivor. On killer I can get middle lobbies, but survivor…

Just as an example of my first games after break:

1st game - Basement booba, one escape through gate

    2nd game — FP Legion. 4 escapes

3rd game — Myers on Lerry. Attempts to tunnel. 4 escapes.

    4th game — Hardtunneled Ghoul, 3 escapes

5th game — p100 FP Xeno. 1 escape (hatch gift)

    6th game — hard tunnel p80 Blight. 4 kills

    7th game — FP Springtrap, 4 escapes.

Matchmaking just a mess and full of contrast, but these games is allowing experiments with builds I assume. Don’t really feel I need full package of meta with DS, windows, resurgence and sprint burst.

P.S. Just slight off topic, but maybe someone would try this counter snowball build as well. It's hard for killer to slug or find vulnerable survivors on death hook with it and involve stealth requirement, so strongly recommend if you aren't actively looking for chase and looking for other. Styptic is the god thing for endgame escapes

If BHVR wants to keep the current "Skill" system but improve it, they could base it on performance.

    For Survivor:
    Chase duration
Gen efficiency (how much you helped repair generators during the match)
    Altruism
Death (Punishing if dying at 5 gens).

    For Killer:
Hook (How many different survivors you hooked during the match)
Gen pressure (How many generators remain when you get X number of hooks).

This is a general idea that might help prevent you from playing with players who are too dependent on others with better game sense (or not too altruistic). It could also encourage and reward Killers if we add more ideas to it.
About gen speed, I don't think that the time is an issue. The problem is the lack of early pressure for some Killers. Maybe for the first 90 seconds of a match, gens could repair X% slower to give Killers some time to find someone before one gen is close to 20%.

Statistically one good day and one bad day is perfectly balanced.

Conclusion is that the system works great.

Top bracket is very big afaik and a 30k swf is absolutely not the majority of the playerbase.

The reality is imo that this game will never be balanced for all players. The majority is casual and not very good.

If you are that good you have to play custom in tournaments with the rules to balance stuff in a competitive way.

I mean, we had good matchmaking with MMR on release, but we had 5-15 minutes queue with it as well and everyone complained about it.

Now it's awfully bad and I think it's where most game's problems come from. I really hope we will get something at least tiny bit better than we have now at 2026, but I honestly think it should be #1 priority over all "anti" mechanics and other things. Because they're trying to fix the effect, not the cause: you matched with opponent with completely different skill level.

Nope, good swf will be just matched with sweatlord Blights, Ghouls and Nurses, like it should be. And all these streaks will be impossible on both sides. 2k win streak means nothing, when 99,95% of your matches you just destroy opponents way lower you. If MMR is working like it should, 10 streak is already solid number.

Well, good teams can't face 3 killers all the time, that's why I think there should be buffs to those struggling killers.

We need more variety, we need more power on some killers.

We also need better gameplay design for some killers.
Let's look at nemesis - he is a strong killer, but going around and slaping people with tentacle is just boring.

    Sounds good but doesn´t work.

Example A put Survivors with equal Skills together. They have short chase time and are bad on gens (low level Survivors) vs Killer with low hooks (low level Killer). Oh wait that low hooks could a killer tunneling or slugging so he gets easier lobbys.

Example B put Survivors with equal Skills together. They have good chase time and are very efficient on gens (good Survivors) vs a Killer which goes for 12 hook games (Good Killer) Oh wait in the Time the killer got his second hook all gens popped.

Or you are telling us that Killers which go for many hooks are worse than the tunneling ones and should go vs not so efficient survivors. This would make the game fun at the very bottom but all above that would be a arms race for the top.

  • you lost 3 matches. You didnt provide details but im assuming that your team got matched against an appropriate killer. Can you say why you lost those matches so we can see better? Chances are your team was superior to the other 37 killers due to the current bad matchmaking.

Sounds like the match-making actually working as intended for a change, tbh. When I used to play Smash Bros online, I would often win 5 -10 matches in a row then lose the next 5-10 for a win rate of about 50%. I think that's how these systems usually work, with players yoyoing between a string of easier matches and then a string of harder matches, which rinse and repeat until you find your "level".

That said, I don't think traditional match-making really works for asyms like DBD. It especially doesn't work for the random pick and mix of SoloQ players. I'd like to be proven wrong, but I have a strong feeling that whatever BHVR are cooking up for their MMR improvements, the games are going to feel exactly the same as they do now - a mishmash of players with different skill levels and intentions all thrown in together because queue times are the priority. I think they would be better off trying to match complementary play styles together (weird build enjoyers with other weird build enjoyers, sweat squads Vs quad slowdown tunnelling Bights, etc). Not really sure how they could achieve that, though.

Or they could just admit MMR will never work and leave the matchmaking up to pure chance (with a protected bracket for very new players that keeps them in their own MMR pool for a set number of games).

Why does it matter? Say MMR was properly functioning, say they bent over backwards to do this. You'd still have the majority of people pissed they are losing games and still saying they aren't being matched up with players of equal skill level. How do you prove MMR is where it's supposed to be without visible numbers or a unique ID? Gameplay is not enough to go off of, you need to SHOW the MMR numbers as well. Let players SEE their own number and let them see others during end-game screen (possibly survivors in pre-game lobby as well).

Oh yeah! Once we grouped up against iri bubba and he found us groupped up (that was a 3 man)

2nd one was really good huntress on the houndmaster map, totally cracked and our friend (weak link, let's say) got tunneled out and missed DS

3rd one was the p100 ghoul with plenty of hours
