I’m scared for DBD’s future
After the Dev stream and especially this PTB I have never felt thats the Devs have never been more tone deaf to their own community in the 3 years I’ve played this game. I’m not happy to say that but can you blame me? Ever since the FNAF chapter it’s nothing but downhill for DBD. The Walking Dead chapter made the game almost unplayable for a while, delaying content for the of game health just for it to get worse, everything surrounding the Sinister Grace chapter, the Halloween event, and now the 9.3.0 PTB. I understand they aren’t doing this on purpose and that they have good intentions but it feels like they don’t know how to put those intentions into motion. I like DBD, and I don’t want to see it go out like this.

Yeah… i have almost no desire to play the game with the direction they seem to want to go. If it dies, it dies i guess.

And they'll ask for labor of love again for the most tone deaf devs ever. Making changes based on just numbers and statistics without even looking at the why. FNAF was the only good chapter this year while just about everything else has been 1 disaster after another and and holding the survivors hand so much with all the base kit buffs they've been getting with killers getting almost no help. They're losing their power role that makes them feel like the killer's they're suppose to be so why the hell should I even continue playing the game then.

Glad more people are catching on over time. Remember, the DBD dev team know everything and you know nothing. :)

The devs have always been data focused. I remember at the peak of OoO a dev said that OoO was actually fine, because survivors with OoO had like a 20% escape rate. Which of course ignored the fact that killers tunneled out OoO survivors because it was so annoying to deal with often the at the detriment of losing the entire game.
It's just it seemed like there was at least a dev or two who played killer and understood killer issues. And we got changes that didn't just make the game worse for killers even if the devs often dropped the ball like Hillbilly rework.
The problem is it seems those killer devs are no longer around and besides the focus on data they only have devs who play survivor making changes for the entire game. I largely stopped playing over a year ago, because I realized that killer problems were never going to be addressed.

The devs need to put their spreadsheets aside and do some in-field research.
Many already understand that doing research in any subject from a hands-on, practical approach often offers more indepth details than across the board numbers, which don't show how a game ebbs and flows, nor all the nuances within it that contribute to such results.
They ought to get much more data through playing the game. I cannot believe they put m7ch work into it from this approach, otherwise they wouldn't have drawn such problematic conclusions.
I'm not worried yet, but they need to do some reassessments, because the team has a habit of being arrogant in their approach, and that's another reason why they are failing badly at present.

The fact that their survival and escape rates can’t account for DCs is quite worrying. That must really skew their data, and if all they’re using is that kind of data to make decisions then no wonder their attempted fixes have been so off the mark.

Yeah the abandon seems to not yount into stats either so they work with something and balance the game around it mainly but that thing isnt reliable source and only covers one half other is gameplay and thats something they dont do much since that legendary flashlight nerf like from start they are ok then some unnamed dev played match as hag against bully flashlight team and got destroyed and nerf was there which they claimed it was planed long time ago. Personaly I think they need to play more their own game or listen those they have as advisers for that and not only look into data that arent even that accurate as they say (I still remember times where they balanced killers by kill rates what a funny years "nerf the pig" times).

Many of the changes make you question if they even play their own game

I don't know. People have complained about tunneling for years, they are finally listening to those complaints. People complained about the last PTB, and BHVR listened to those complaints. Seems much more like they are trying to find the line between groups who have different desires for the game.
Some of the bugs and PR has been abysmal recently, that's true.

Otzdarva has a video that goes way more in depth into the PTB if you want to learn more about that because this post really isn’t about the PTB it’s really just me venting out my frustrations with the game recently

You're not allowed to be pragmatic. Only doomposting is permitted right now.

Yeah, I watched his video yesterday. Watched a few other content creators as well and everyone seemed to have things they liked, except they had different things.
That's normal for any patch that does a lot, you're going to get mixed reactions.
On Otz specifically I agreed with some of his points, disagreed with others, and then a few I kind of just felt were off topic, which isn't surprising because of how long the video was.
Okay, I'll try to doompost
DbD is not going to win the Labor of Love award.

I predicted it in the last PTB, the situation was going to turn into a ping-pong match between both sides, with none ever getting satisfied. I got around 20 negative votes, if I remember correctly, and here we are, with no one satisfied with the new PTB.
No matter what changes they make, the message they sent is self-destructive. The mere fact of trying to punish one side for the way they play dug the game's grave and accelerated its downfall.
And all for trying to please the noise. Balance is always achieved by aiming for the highest level, no matter how much you pretend this to be a party game. If there is a problem with new players and their learning curve, that is what should have been addressed with the highest priority, by creating useful tutorials and more practice options.

I think it is kind of funny that you stated that you have been playing for 3 years, as it was almost exactly 3 years ago when they switched from producing a balanced game to going fully killer sided. There was a major developer turn-over at the time too. They stated that the reasoning for buffing killers was that new players found it too difficult to play killer, so they progressively made it easier to get started, and even easier over the past 3 years. So much so, that a baby can now play killer and get 4Ks. The down side was that high MMR killers jumped from a 60% kill rate to an 80% kill rate.
The wall hacks added to killers, the lower recovery times, and severe lose of safe pallets, are all the result of these changes. Killers had no problem prior to the changes that began 3 years ago, you just needed to practice. Be careful of what you wish for, as you may actually get it. Then when it utterly fails, things will go back to where they were. The game doesn’t need killers as much as it needs survivors, which is why they are making the current changes.
Any killer getting more than a 60% kill rate, is doomed to be nerfed. It’s a fact that BHVR had been trying to ignore, but they can’t ignore it any longer. I mostly play Hag, Pig, and Trapper, with a sprinkle of Wraith and Doctor. I never camp, not even proxy camp, nor do I tunnel or intentionally slug. The closest I’ve come to slugging is when a “bully” squad tries to have a little too much fun, and I just down all of them around the first survivor that I downed. The last guy on the ground, gets the hatch.
Do 4 man teams win against me? Yes, like 20-30% of the time, while we mostly split the match unless I really want to be a try-hard (Which is extremely rare). I play to have fun, and I tend to like longer matches around 12+ minutes. I almost always let the last person have the hatch, or an exit gate. Anywho, I really wish Puppers was still around, as the current players have no idea how fun this game used to be when he was still with us.

I keep parroting my opinion all the time, but I feel all S-Tiers/hyper mobility needs brought down to Wesker's level. That's when I'll have a more consistently fun time in this game. I don't need to win all the time, I just want chases that are fun as a casual player.
I play lots of killer and playing someone like Unknown while they exist is just irritating1 -
Yeah they just keep leaving the strongest killers untouched while nerfing someone like Skull merchant or Unknown for just existing.

The reason why dash killers are so prevalent and krasue is so cheap but so powerful is because we reflected that feedback...
2 -
I hope they never do this because waiting seventy years from the point I press M2 to when my dash is ready, only for it to bump into any bit of irregular geometry and then be unusable for 12 seconds is horrible and I'm glad most other killers with dashes or mobility are more responsive and feel less clunky.
I''ll admit I'm not good at Wesker. But he feels so clunky and unresponsive that I can't bring myself to play him. I'd hate it if every mobility killer were changed to be this way.-2 -
IDK, it's less like them functioning like him, I don't think Blight needs to be clunky, more it needs to potentially cover less distance or have less bounces, considering y'know they can break pallets for free. I don't know what the solution is personally, but it's how much the lot of them can cover distance which is one of their biggest issues (Not just talking about Blight). I'm not saying they should lose their identity, I just think like any other competitive game, high mobility is always busted.
Nurse is more how it doesnt matter the map (when she isn't buggy) if she has aura reading she is god mode.0 -
Ive been playing for many years now. Its never been this consistently bad.
2 -
If you want the game to improve overall, certain things need to be toned down. Blight, Nurse and the likes cannot stay the way they are. Its damaging for the whole game and has been proven over and over again.
I still dont get why blight isnt 4.4. It makes literally no sense.
1 -
And they lied about tunneling saying it's in 40% of the games when we who playes the game a lot knows it's like 10%, it's not a big deal move on to the next game when it happens. Killers have same problem with SWF bully teams, gen rush teams etc and move on to next game same there. They seem hell bent on destroying the game due to a false narrative. But it will hurt them a lot when lot's of killers leave the game and they will be forced to go back to undo the damage when this backfires, and it will.
-7 -
Something needs to change. Certain killers are way too good at tunneling and they've spoiled it for those killers that aren't so good. We can't blame behaviour or survivors for killers who've caused this problem.
Every match I have (and it's been this way for a long time) is a Blight, Nurse, Ghoul or that new silly head on a spine thing.. and 80% of the games result in a tunnel. I'll occasionally get a Wesker or a pig. The whole "Everyone is gonna just run blight". no.. they already are.
Personally, I'd much rather see ping abusing fixed, but if this makes my occasional solo survivor game better, I'll take it.
After all is said and done, there are still going to be new players joining the game and that's what the Devs want. Long term players of DBD are becoming a problems cause they all think they know what's best for the game, yet won't listen to the other side. So a bunch of fresh faces might be the answer. Let's hope a few of the streamers leave too, cause they have far too much influence.
