Should DC penalties be Harsher?
Comments
-
I think a leavers queue with a time limit instead of an outright lockout, where you can end it early by playing full matches with other leavers.
That way it can be harsh without scaring players outright away.3 -
No, it's because they half-ass everything.
It's like the anti-tunnel changes. They are gonna half-ass them and never touch it again. They fix nothing, make new problems and move on.

HOT TAKE: Even if they add harsher DC, people will just start running towards killer and starting doing gen infront of killer face. So go ahead and add 24h penalties because it won't change anything. ;)

Well, i had a bad internet issue last week, DCed 3 times in between some hours and didn't got a big enough DC penalty. I believe they are not working or aren't working as intended.
I can't believe people are enduring 15 minutes penalties and going back to the game to DC left and right again, considering how abundant DCs are in the current state of the game.

I think the current system is fine. Once upon a time when someone DC'd, it was an automatic 3v1. The devs threw in bots, which can be painful but it's still something to try and balance the odds and make the DC'd person less missed. Increasing penalties won't suddenly make people be able to manage their emotions better. They'll just keep DCing their way out of the game completely, and at the end of the day BHVR are a business. They don't want people to leave, even the DCers. I also don't see alot of DCs in my game, so for me it's not really an issue.

People already do this to me pretty much every time I play. That and standing under or running over to hooks, AFKing, or noise spamming to get me to come to them. I get more of this than I do DCs, by far.

It's such a waste of time to talk about anymore in my opinion. Anything that could actually improve the game and naturally limit DCs gets shot down and any idea that could make DCs less punishing overall so they're mundane is treated like heresy.
If players really desire for the game to be the same as it's always been, you have to expect that nothing will change—including giving up.

Even if they didn't half ass things it still wouldn't be enough for y'all

Who is you all brother

This. As much as people would like to force others to play/complete a match, you'll never do it. They'll find a way to get out of that match or just AFK and open Reddit, like I do every time I'm slugged as survivor or being bagged at the gate as killer. 🙂 I think the penalty system is okay. Hopefully once camping and tunneling are "solved" (I won't hold my breath cause I've have seen what behaviour do) but hopefully things will calm down.

If you're going to grief instead of eating a harsh dc penalty, you really should be asking yourself why you are even playing the game in the first place. I'm tired of catering towards this baby behavior where we can't punish you too harshly or you'll throw a tantrum and then you throw the tantrum anyways.

simply increase the pens for DC and go next prevention. if people afk or intentionally try to go next then they would get a pen stopping them from joining another match. treat them like hackers, the game is better off without hackers ruining the game just like its better off without people DCing or not playing the match….just ban the lot of them.
-4 -
Let's ban bad players too, while we're at it. That's the route we'll be taking after even more punishment doesn't work.
1 -
Punish your players too much, they'll just not play. What's more important to the studio? Stopping DCs or keeping the money rolling in?
1 -
so we just allow hackers to cheat? i mean they are players that are keeping the player count up right? at some point we have to decide whats worse….out of 40,000 players say 10,000 are ruining the game for everyone else. whats worse, to cut the player base to 30,000 and make the game more enjoyable for them and potentially bring more players that enjoy the game or allow people to continue to DC or whatever reason they want to throw out there? if i was ever to uninstall the game, it would be due to the people ruining the game by DCing and going next.
-3 -
being bad at the game isnt the same as intentionally not playing going into the match with the intention of leaving a useless bot behind, going afk, throwing the match, ruining the game as a whole. its griefing plain and simple and in no way should that be allowed.

Bad players "throw" all the time. Bad players grief all the time. Bad players "ruin" the game all the time.
Thank you for proving the point.
1 -
intentionally? i dont think so. practice often means the bad players improve, they learn. with a working matchmaking system good players wouldnt have bad players and wouldnt have players ruining the match. DCing because they dont like something doesnt improve like practice does

Prove intent.
If we further clamp down on DC's, we will see less. We will see more soft throwing, which is indistinguishable from bad play. Unless you can prove an intent to throw, and purposefully harm the game, your position leads to nothing.
2 -
less is better than what we have now. when its more effort to hide the throwing and to try soft throw under the guise of being a bad player then people would usually just play the match. currently its so easy to throw people do that instead. Intent is actually easy to prove and its not requirement, its already reportable to grief players, such as body blocking a player in the corner….intentional? or did the controller run out of batteries so cant move out the way? proving intent isnt necessary for punishing that player that was body blocking.
-3 -
Oof, terrible take.

Could they maybe try first so we can see? All we've had for the longest time are half baked ideas that end in failure (in my opinion). On the very rare chance we get something really cool and fun it's fleeting, either because it's a novelty that wears off (Nic Cage) or it's nerfed into oblivion (too many to list).
I really fail to see the difference of how one system that denies gameplay is worse than another. It's all accepted by the game. All you can do is improve the experience and hope for the best, which is not what we've seen. All we've gotten are anti-measures that harm the game and/or feel akin to threats.
The craziest thing about these suggestions too is that we've tried it all. Unless anyone arguing for harsher penalties came around in the last 2 months, they saw bad players being punished like you mention.
The discourse on game balance is always stuck in 2016 for some reason.
-1 -
care to explain? i mean your going down the prove intent path yet someone can bodyblock another player and say oops sorry controller died. dodgy ground with the whole prove intent because it can suggest that breaking the rules is ok as long as you cant prove intent. we really want to go down that road?

Prove that someone playing sub-optimally is bannable.
2 -
i have had many notifications in game stating that action has been taken when i report them for such things as working with the killer. maybe they were just playing sub optimally? whos to say? whos to say a survivor leading the killer to other survivors isnt just playing badly or if they are intentionally trying to sabotage the match. or maybe a killer is keeping 3rd survivor alive while the 4th hides for hatch….is the killer playing badly and just cant got to that hook? or is the killer griefing?
-1 -
So, you ARE saying that people will get banned for being bad, and that you are totally fine with that and not only that, but you've previously abused the system yourself.
Interesting viewpoint, to be sure.

How hilarious is it that there is a huge population of people who think there should be no DC penalty. We are playing with people who seriously wish they could just shop games until they get one where they stomp the other side. I can't stand the immaturity and lack of sportsmanship in this community. Yes, the game is crazy unbalanced, it always will be. Play the game out! You're playing with real people in a competition. Fatherless behavior I swear.
3 -
im saying proof isnt required, if i see griefing im reporting it. its up to bhvr to decide if its ban worthy. your saying these "bad" players can grief and thats ok because intent cant be proven. and your ok with that?

I don't understand the opposite, to be honest. It reads as intentionally obtuse. Very few players I'd wager go into the game expecting to ruin it. But once you're met with a wall where it feels like you aren't able to experience the game, what are you supposed to do? Nobody wants to be relegated to the role of NPC. There's a lot of talk about compassion, but why should you sacrifice your experience and your enjoyment for every other player in the trial? Especially when the mindset for so long has been to play the way you want. I think there are multiple ways to grief and/or give up, whether that's running to the hook against a Killer you don't like or tunneling a Survivor out for an easy win. They're all accepted and they all cause fatigue.
If nothing changes and we're expected to be unaffected by that, then where do we end up? It really seems like there is no solution other than for the majority of the player base to uninstall the game.
-2 -
I think BHVR will ban innocent players, yes. We've already seen them do it.
Yes, I'd rather no innocents be punished.
2 -
so you rather no innocent punished even if it means the guilty get no punishment?
-2 -
The guilty are getting punished, they just arent being punished to your liking.
But yes, if given the choice, I will always choose the option where the least amount of innocents suffer.
3 -
they are not being punished, the amount of people DCing, going next, abandoning for free shows that people can sabotage a match with no punishment time and time again
-1 -
DC has a penalty. You cant go next. Abandon has very specific conditions.
0 -
DC has next to 0 penalty….get 2 free DC then a 5min timeout, 20 matches restes it…. go next prevention doesnt work at all so people can, will and are still going next. abandon requires everyone to be downed or just being downed twice yourself….i lost count how many times people have abandoned the instant the option comes up because they were downed twice and recovered while the killer chased away a flashlight player. anyone can DC or go next pen free simply by spreading the method out between the three ways, DC, go next and abandon
-1 -
One free, I thought. 20 matches is a ton.
You cant suicide. Go Next works.
Okay, so you either won or are about to win. Boo hoo.
3 -
2 free…. i know i have lost connection twice in a row with no pen. you can suicide if you take the luck offering which works for all 4 survivors if just 1 brings it. downing 1 survivor then chasing another away then downing them a second time at some point in the match isnt about to win. if someone gets downed twice they can save that abandon for whenever they want….play it out and something happens they dont like for example their swf team mate gets killed…oh abandon there waiting. oh and 20 matches is not a lot when you get 2 free and then go next and then abandon. maybe play like 3 matches properly and throw the rest easy. i play over 8 hours a night. i can fly through 20 matches in no time and earn myself another 2 free free DC. when it was timed i couldnt reset it, i had to wait like 24 hours to get it reset no matter how much a played
-1 -
oh yeah. much harsher. 24 hours.
0 -
We couldn't even try the unhook protections and anti Slug devs scrapped em all i give up tbh
1 -
Absolutley yes.
Not only should the time penalties be longer, but there should also be penalties beyond the time penalty.
Just the time penalty alone does nothing since people can just ignore the penalty by alt-tabbing/exiting out of the game and doing something else for a bit.Make it so that in addition to the time penalty, the player gets a "Debt" they have to pay off. And while a player has Debt, they cannot gain any BP, EXP, or Quest Progression.
Eg: Player DCs and gains a Debt of 100,000 BP. Meaning the next 100,000 BP they would have gained instead goes to paying off that Debt.
That'll actually stop people from DCing.
2 -
BHVR literally delayed a chapter so that they could have 2 entire PTBs dedicated to trying them, what are you talking about.
