Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

This game is going to die and they know it

Losing or already lost prominent licenses such as Halloween and Hellraiser.

A year of complete failure bringing no promised health updates and delayed content.

Too early of an announcement of the 10th Year Anniversary. Feels like cop out to me.

Cheaters has taken over Dead by Daylight.

Bugs and game balance is still mostly not fixed.

Making earning bloodpoint worse and Event rewards like Christmas calendar is reduced significantly. There are barely iridescent shards than the previous years too.

Sorry but you're not going to get my money for your FOMO 10th Anniversary collector's set lmao 😂 I already know you're trying to scratch off any money whatever is left of the fanbase until the inevitable happens.

I think this is an overreaction from the community.
There's a long lineup of licensed and original chapters planned for release over the next few years, and development isn't coming to a stop. Some decisions and factors are beyond BHVR control, and I don't think this has anything to do with the state of the game. I can imagine what it would feel like to lose my favorite licensed chapters, but we get to keep what we've already bought. If it were the other way around, I'd be furious.

The loss of Halloween and Hellraiser tells me that the game's relationship with licences as it adds even more of them is going to change from having all of them purchasable with one or two holdouts being the fault of those companies, to licences going in and out every few years with BHVR going "get it while supplies last!!" and "now featuring the grand return of!!" as they lose and regain them to suit their benefit

From a business standpoint, they shirk the cost of having to pay every single licence holder all the time, and get to reap the benefits of a going away sale and licence renewal hype. A complete win.

From a player standpoint? This sucks and the less we see of it the better. It makes me want new chapters less as original content like Krasue really struggles to find a place in the game after this many additions and licences can just poof out of the game at will.

More than likely, they lost the licenses due to them making their own video game, a.k.a. Hellraiser and Halloween. However very happy Mike will be unavailable for purchase that guy is too OP RN

Except avg player count is still higher than last year in December and if you look at previous years this is normal fluctuation of this games player amounts. They always drop in December and usually starts slowly rising after January until it peaks again in June/July.

And this year there was no new chapter in november. So its completely normal.

The loss of Halloween license doesn't really concern me. It's unusual for live service games to sell collabs year round, let alone for 9yrs straight. And tbh i don't feel myers has really been done justice in dbd anyway. They turned him into a brute, only identifiable playstyle that remains is using scratched mirror. I think the loss of the map is a shame though.

Honestly, it doesn't change much, won't be forever, and could honestly have long-term benefits.

The perks will become free and general perks, which means Killers get a new half-decent slowdown (Dying Light) and half-decent chase perk (STBFL) without having to pay, and Survivors get DS no longer paywalled. Less paywalled stuff is always nice and anti-tunnel perks that aren't paywalled is even better.

We all know the new game will flop in about a year (since Illfonic and Gun Media are behind the game, it's doomed to fail by default) and the license holders will come crawling back to BHVR.

It's a shame for new players who won't be able to get him, it's also a shame to see the chapter that truly put DBD on the map temporarily leave, but it's not only temporary but also gives a couple nice things to free players.

The game might flop but honestly. I think it looks quite good and i think for the sake of brand and character integrity i think the exclusivity is beneficial.

I hope that if/when halloween returns to dbd, john carpenter will be involved to improve myers.

Oh is this another the Game will die soon post? grabs some popcorn

I think that the good old Michael will be back sooner or later.

It was exactly the same with Stranger Things. It took a break till BHVR got it back.

    So don´t worry.

They probably did that on purpose too since they knew he was going to get removed. Now content creators are putting him in A tier so when newbies hear about that + him getting removed, they quickly buy him filling bhvrs pockets

Gun didn’t make the game Illfonic made it

Plus it was already in development way before

Even if he doesn't return, he's been around forever, so there's tons of players who already have him. And I'm sure many more players will unlock him with the Last Chance sale before the time runs out. So I suspect we'll still see a lot of Michael in our matches.

I've been seeing endless Michaels since the rework was first announced, and I'm really hating slaughtering strike. I could do with less Micheal for a bit.

People have been saying the game is dying for years and yet here we are. While I think this year was a mess and losing two license chapters this year is not a good look, it's not like the game will be die next year. We have Stranger Things license coming out start of next year and that will be a boost.

I do think if BHVR doesn't figure out what they want the game to be and require their devs to play their game so they understand the basics, then the game will die out but even then that won't be for years due to license momentum.

All valid points, but have you considered that BHVR's execs may have wanted a second or third yacht?

I do check the numbers and they are down but not much. It’s the fact they couldn’t hold onto the FNAF newbies or returning players. That is what shows the game isn’t interesting to most or completely hard for newbies. The game is still interesting to say the least it’s the players that make it miserable and it’s been asked that maybe BHVR take a firmer stand on player behavior and cheaters. You used to run into a subtle cheater hardly ever and now it’s a few times a day.

The time for a matchmaking overhaul was prior to FNAF. New players should be learning alongside other new players.

Every month we get "The game is dying" crying, and yet the playercount is growing and growing. While there is no competition, this game is immortal, as the players will have to put up with anything due to the simple absence of choice.

Because the license owners decided to not give it solely to them and allowed both to coexist. A good call, since, you know...

it's not looking good chief. the numbers might look good, but dbd has lost its touch. it's like they're winging everything, people wanna pretend dbd isn't in its worst state since god knows how long, it's worse than before the bot system got implemented.

give me a 3 genning skull merchant and id probably have more fun. ghoul is partly whats ruined dbd for me too. he is not fun to play against in the slightest and the fact that the devs are adamant on keeping him in the game the way he is tells me they truly are out of touch.

they only care about releasing crap cosmetics and rinsing their play base of every little bit of money they can whilst they can. ######### sucks.

DBd definitely had a rough year

They made some questionable decisions and moves, there's the whole anti tunneling/camping fiasco, etc…

The events were kinda med, only Bone Chill is good but man, do they take iri shards and BPs out of your own pockets ? Why being so cheap with the calendar ?

I am not that concerned about their loss of two licenses, it's not their fault

I believe 2026 will be decisive for this game, they need to get a grip and start doing good, or this might be the death of the game

As a long time player who now only plays very occasionally due to recent decisions, a lot of those dscisions and factors were not beyond BHVR's control.

While I do believe Myers would likely be returning due to how profitable he was on DBD, I would be lying if I said DBD has been in worse states. We've had bad moments in the past that lasted longer than the current state, but back then there was always something good in return.

There have been multiple fixes surrounding hooks and unhooks over the years. Both for killers and survivors. Killers have gotten a basic attack upgrade so that survivors cannot unhook their teammate for effectively free. If only 1 survivor comes when a killer is there, they will always be able to hit the survivor twice. You need at least 2 survivors to unhook a teammate that's getting facecamped. For survivors, swivelhooks have been implemented so that killers cannot just stand there with no option to unhooking left. Basekit BT was implemented due to how much survivor gameplay relied on at least someone running BT to prevent a direct down after unhook. And more yet to come.

For gen regression, not much has been done basekit, and while there definitely needs to be a regression rework, there are literally enough perks to pick and choose from that matches your gameplay.

For slugging? You only really have Unbreakable, and Unbreakable has never been a good perk to pick. Even if you get slugged, you can just get slugged again relatively soon after, especially when facing a mobility killer. Exponential helps, but Exponential relies on RNG totems being good on top of the game being a game where Unbreakable is needed.

Slugging has needed an actual impactful update for YEARS now. Either perks that allow for pick-ups (Soul Guard is not really included because that relies on you being cursed with a hex, it doesnt matter if you see a totem burning, you have to be hexed, and the effect is gone if you remove the hex, which a random teammate is always going to do).
The least that was needed last march, was basekit tenacity (not the sound, but increased crawling speed and the ability to recover while crawling).
What DBD also needs is the ability to pick one-self up after some time. Not an arbitrary timelimit, but one that gets weaker over time because slugging is sometimes needed. Yet, the 2v1 should never turn into a free 4k just because gens are still running.
The simple solution to both is: Allow survivors who need help to pick themselves up at an UNFINISHED gen for free. Rework any perks that increase the ability to recover or self-pickup except for No Mither and suddenly, you have survivors needing to recover for at least 30 seconds, needing to crawl towards objectives that are shown to the killer by aura which can take significantly longer than 30 seconds, and bam, you fix basically all issues surrounding multiple people getting slugged while barely negatively impacting the game. Give certain abilities like Victor and Demon Rush a 10-15% reduction in self-recover speed and you should cover those too.
"But if I slug all 4 people I should win" Should you? I'd say hooking and sacrificing survivors is the path to a win. That has the exact same energy as "if the killer chases me for 8 minutes, I should win". Yet, all killer mains will retort to that with "your team should just do gens". If you have a problem with having to hook survivors to win the game, then you're not thinking of your opponents as humans.

they honestly changed too much. I wish there was a way to revert the game to how it was when Stranger Things came out. Yes balance wasn’t perfect, but it didn’t need to be. The chaos is what made the game fun and exciting. I admit it could be me looking back with rose tinted glasses, but I do miss those times.

Now I just can’t boot up and play regardless of role
