Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Season's greetings from The Fog!

As the holidays approach quicker than a pinballing Blight, we wanted to drop in here to thank you for another amazing year. We're continuously reminded of how fortunate we are to have such an incredible community, so it bears repeating. From the way you showed up to give feedback on The Fog's many Realms, to the utterly unmatched meme game you bring to the table, thank you so much for being on this hook-filled journey with us!

While we're reminiscing about the past year, we also wanted to shout out a cool new blog the team put out this week. Check it out right here!

On the one hand, we take a look back to the beginning of the year, digging into some interesting stats. Want to know how many pallets were dropped vs. destroyed? We've got you covered! On the other hand, since the team here lives and breathes horror, we wanted to close out the year by shouting out some of our developers' favourite indie horror games - other than DbD, of course - linked below to show 'em some love:

Do you have a fave indie horror game? Let us know below and let's share in the horror goodness.

All that said, we've got a lot in store for you in 2026! Have a safe and wonderful holiday season, and we'll see you on the flip-side!

Happy holidays,

The Dead by Daylight team

Ooh, game reccs, I'm good at these.

If we're talking standout indie horror titles, I don't think it's controversial to give Signalis a shoutout right off the bat. Absolutely fantastic love letter to the older style of survival horror games with excellent imagery and a fantastically ambiguous storyline, plus some compelling tense gameplay. If you haven't played it, you should.

However, in a very similar vein of mimicking older survival horror, I would be remiss not to shout out Crow Country, which I absolutely adored every second of. It's much more lighthearted than Signalis but still has its fair share of scary imagery and tense moments, and the writing is top notch.
Everyone I have showed Crow Country to became someone who started convincing others to play it, it's such a good game.

I admittedly haven't finished these, but I also want to shout out Heartworm and You Will Die Here Tonight.

They're both classic survival horror as well, with Heartworm recreating the dreamy atmosphere and haunting references to trauma of something like Silent Hill, plus including the gimmick of only damaging enemies by taking pictures of them with your camera that I believe originates in Fatal Frame, though I've never played that. As a bonus, the camera is also your flashlight, illuminating the darkness with the flash that lingers for a few seconds before fading.

You Will Die Here Tonight is extremely old Resident Evil core, with the twist that you control multiple characters who are very certain to perish on the journey, leading you to use the next character to capitalise on the progress you made. It also has a time-loop element I personally find very compelling.
I only played the opening segment to that one, but it's awesome, I really should get back to it.

I'll cap off there so this doesn't get too long, but as you can tell I have a fondness for classic survival horror. It's no wonder I've stayed here in the Fog for so many years…

ohhh I'm going to have to check out some of those @jesterkind I'd not actually played Signalis myself so pretty sure I'm going to give that a go over the holiday break

It's interesting to see what other people play!

Signalis is awesome, I fully recommend it. That game and Crow Country get basically unreserved recommendations from me, they're different experiences but they're pulling on similar ideas.

Hope you enjoy it and the rest of your break!

happy holidays! I've been curious to try Crow Country myself, I went down a rabbit hole of looking at terrible horror/ps1 style on the Xbox store but that one looked really interesting.

DDLC was great! really messed me up, though. I wasn't sold on the ideas of writing sappy poetry to pick up chick's but I kinda got into it and fell for a nice girl. I was struggling with depression/suicide at the time and that game messed me up for 2 solid weeks. I have terrible luck with romance it seems.

Happy holidays to all of you!

I'm thinking of replaying Bioshock and some Outlast, wishful thinking they might join DBD soon too

Otherwise just full DBD and maybe some Marvel Rivals

I've heard good things about STASIS before though, so this might be the final sign for me to try it out!

Have a good end of the year and beginning of the new one!

I'm gonna need to look through the Steam sales as well, see what I can pick up. Otherwise I will spend many more hours in The Forest and / or Sons of the Forest!

Definitely think I'm going to try out STASIS now though!

  • Happy holidays to everyone! Looking forward to another amazing year in The Fog.

Since you are wondering what my favorite indie Horror Game is, I gotta go with Dark Deception. Yeah, the game isn't fully complete and currently we are waiting on the 5th chapter. But I still have a lot of fun while playing it. It's story is 🔥 and I like the different monster designs. I Also love the voice actor cast that we get in the game. Tara Strong voices 3 of the different monsters (the Reaper Nurses, Penny the Chicken, and Mama Bear) which I find amazing. I highly recommend check Dark Deception out for yourself. Fair warning, It is a bit buggy, and their are a handful of glitches, but just wait. The game will recieve an Enhanced+ update some time next year. I've played the demo of the first level, and things look pretty promising.

Repo has been a decent horror game so far, not gory or anything but if you play by yourself the tension is really high. Its also very popular for coopertive play lately

Inscryption kinda has a bit of a horror element if you like genre bending card games

    Merry Christmas everyone.

My favourite horror games are Bendy and the Ink Machine with its brilliant and amazing art style and Poppy Playtime for the jump scares.

Do you have a fave indie horror game?

I've been specifically playing Outlast Trials - The world building in that game is great, community is nice and the game itself is solid. Unsure if it counts as AA or indie but either way it's been great experiencing going back to it and exploring its world. Haven't really had time to explore many other titles.

    Happy Holidays

    Happy Holidays everyone :)

Favorite horror game: Outlast Trials. I started playing it during their winter event last year and I love it. Since it's new player friendly I've had an easy time getting friends into playing it, and we've had alot of screams and laughs in the trials. Gameplay is fun, lore is interesting, community is friendly and helpful. Feels like there's something new happening fairly often whether it's new trials and enemies being added or some event or weekly ritual that changes up normal trials.

Not my artwork, but it fits the Christmas spirit. I feel that we need a Christmas themed Sable outfit in the game though.

    Merry Christmas to all 🎅🎄
