Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Well theres the event, and then theres the people in it. The snowballs are more fun to control this year and its easy to max out the winter event point, if... you arent being turbo tunneled / team slugged / camped to death before even 1 generator gets done as i can count on 1 hand how many rounds we either had someone playing normally or decided to be funny and farm points with everyone. As 90% of my solo que survivor rounds are just over at 4 gens left if not 5, complete with insults and griefing for no reason. So ive finally been pushed to play more killer rounds and i havent killed anyone yet, just got everyone to 2 hooks each and farmed. Every group i did play with thanked me and explained how bad its been for them lately too. On survivor ive met some of worst people ive ever met in the game, during this event. To a point where they even went to my steam account and reported / banned my funny steam name ive had for over 13 years, and i didnt even say anything or t bag or nothing.

One thing i do miss is the inflateable looking snowmen. They seemed to have more personality and variety, and were just more funny to play around with.

I dont like that they add things which alter gameplay with the events. Especially because this then causes them to create a separate queue for the Event, which splits queues and prolongs queuetimes. This is fine for Modifiers, but should not be a thing for simple events.

Therefore, I dont like that Snowballs in this event are more than just snowballs which you can throw at people or at snowmen for a few BPs. It is frustrating to not be able to use or kick a Pallet because it got frozen. Not being able to kick a Pallet is fine for most Pallets, but there are some which have to be kicked and if they are frozen, this is just too much. And having the only Pallet nearby being frozen and therefore not being able to use it is also really bad.

Also, covering Gens in snow is just another way of slowdown which is already rampant in DBD. No need to add another layer of Slowdown.

I just wish that events would go back to being in the main queue and also them not adding such gameplay-altering elements. I think it is borderline fine for the Winter Event, but for example I did not play the Anniversary Event because the Pallet Break was just big Nonsense I did not want to deal with.

Events should just alter the Realms with decorations and give a fun way for players to interact with each other (in this case - throwing snowball), but not change the gameplay.

I've enjoyed goofing around as Chucky and throwing snow skulls when I've played. But to be honest I'm just playing to unlock the cosmetics that I care about and I much preferred how the event was last year. I really liked the moving snowmen and had a huge amount of fun traversing the map in one as Survivor (I got really good at mimicking their weird tank like movements) and jump scaring the Survivors as Killer. The maps feels totally empty without them and there is obviously no element of surprise hiding inside them anymore. I have no idea why they were removed. The new Survivor throwing animation is neat I guess, if kinda janky but I have no desire to play Survivor right now anyway.

Hot off the heals of a 2V8 that deleted my Killer of choice and a very poor Halloween event, it's topped off a year of disappointments for me. There are also too many people in the event queue that aren't willing to interact with the event mechanics, but that goes without saying at this point. I think it's time we had one queue again for all the difference it's made to split them.

I'd love to dig into that first point a little so I can make sure your feedback's noted down. Which role are you playing as and would you be able to explain what's making this feel unplayable?

I'm not the person you responded to, but to give you some feedback on freezing pallets:

I play both killer and survivor, and freezing pallets is largely a pretty big killer buff and makes the chase feel uninteractive and frustrating on the survivor end because they are largely your only defence other than windows and freezing pallets doesn't take that huge an investment for the killer to do. Likewise if you're against a team of survivors who use it on god pallets when they're thrown, you're just staring at a frozen pallet for 7 seconds.

There are some things you can do as survivor, like pre-freeze it from afar so the killer can't, but I do wish BHVR wouldn't mess with chase flow in events by affecting actual pallets.

I appreciate you're limited in the scope of what you can make an event do in DBD in terms of how it affects gameplay, but messing with chase mechanics is one of the most consistently frustrating ones. Now, thankfully you have a normal queue so I can just ignore it, but there isn't much fun to be had on the receiving end of "Oh the pallets frozen, guess I just get hit." or, on the other end of it, "Guess I just can't kick this pallet because it's been frozen whilst down".

I genuinely enjoyed the previous years when it was more about just having fun throwing snowballs and goofing around in snowmen. It felt chill.

    Ofcourse my friend.

Most of the time I am playing Survivor it is more like a 90% to 10%

If I am in the role of Survivor rhe freeze of pallets by the Killer feels a bit overwhelming if you stay at a 50:50 pallet. You try to loop it just for the pallet to get frozen mid chase. I know this is the purpose for this ability but it feels kinda… cheap espacially against strong anti loop Killers.

The only time I play Killer this Event I was playing Clown on Gideon. And well it was nice to get this hits… it kinda felt like the ability of the anniversery to break pallets from afar. But if the pallet is a strong pallet which needs to be broken it gets kinda frustrating when the Survivor runs… pre drops… and you have to stay there… waiting… till you can break it.

I know these affects are intended. But weak loops become kinda impossible to play and strong "god" pallets feels impossible as Killer.

im questioning if survivors are leaving that they keep priortising killers in almost every event this year.

no, seriously, the only thing survivors got was bloodmoon.

I've been playing as both killer and survivor, and I'm enjoying it more as survivor. I'm a chill killer but hate farming, yet half the time when I'm throwing snowballs the survivors try sway me into playing friendly lol the new snowball throwing animation is fun

I don't remember playing the event much last year so I can't really compare. I was also a killer-only player then, so I only saw the one side.

This year it's been mostly like the other recent events: too sweaty. As survivor I can't take anything seriously and I just want to throw snowballs, so the killers just stomp me. As killer, I'm mostly getting sweaty teams, so I can't do much event-wise.

BUT I did have a survivor match with @For_The_People and @THE_Crazy_Hyena that might have been the most fun match I've ever played. The killer was chill and we roamed about as snowman, had snowball fights, I was publicly flogged on hook for breaking the killer's snowman, and we had a snowman race instead of a slug race, resulting in the comical knee-glide exit animation. It was such a wonderfully wholesome 40 minutes I don't know how I can play normal again.

    I like it.

Freezing gens is a nice slowdown that isn’t overtuned. It’s base kit for killer and not capped.

The pallet freeze has a really high skill ceiling with the charged snowball throw. As a survivor with distance, you pre-freeze the pallet so it’s unfrozen but on cooldown when you need to drop it. As killer, you use the snowball throw to freeze pallets before survivors can drop them. You can also make pallet saves impossible by freezing before picking.

Unfortunately, this does result in lose/lose scenarios when distance is little. If a survivor approaches a god pallet you don’t have a freeze angle on, you’re going to have to sit in front of it and wait as they drop and freeze. And if you don’t have distance on survivor and the killer has LOS on your pallet, they will just freeze it and you will die. Both of these scenarios aren’t super fun.

I think it is a lot of fun and I enjoy it more than the Halloween event surprisingly. I love coming across a big survivor snowball fight and joining in. Of course once I run out of snowballs its back to work. I did that the other night as Dredge (the mere idea of him in a snowball fight is hilarious to me). I wish Dracula could throw them in wolf form.

Yeah seems some people have missed that when the pallet is thawing out its non-freezable. I have had several good runs using the freezing pallet to stop killers breaking them right away and then timing the coming around when it just thaws out so I can vault it. You can also connect several loops and do the same. Its also good for shack pallet to block killer from getting in/out fast or destroying it right away. Its good mechanic that both can use to their benefit.

Being able to freeze a pallet, so I can safely pick up a survivor off the ground, is by far the most exciting part of the Winter Event. And I really wish there was something in the regular game mode, that would allow me to safely pick up survivors that are under un-dropped pallets.

The most obnoxious part of playing killer is the amount of hook denial I have to deal with. I'm often getting games where the survivors are purposely trying to pallet save, flashlight save, flashbang save, aggressively bodyblock, or hook sabotage… to prevent me from hooking a survivor. And it happens over and over and over in the same game.

I'm at the point where I just won't play a lot of the killers, because dealing with hook denial is super unfun for the weaker killers. Being forced to slug survivors, is really unfun for killers.

It would be nice if the interactions that the challenges want you to know were explained in the gameplay details. This many years in, it feels really clunky having to figure it out without explanation.

Edit: Also PLEASE stop adding events where you have to complete every single challenge to get all of the rewards. Nobody likes that.

All the events feel so lifeless now. 2v8 was the last innovative thing they came up with and they found a way to ruin that as well.

    • For me, this is the most fun event of 2025. Snowballs are a simple yet interactive mechanic, without disrupting the gameplay at all. Being able to freeze the pallets (on both sides) is useful and powerful. It's the first time I've seen players truly "waste time" and relax 100%, even the sweatiest killers who usually take the game very seriously. For me, this event is a big "yes."
