Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

How to make boons good again

remember when boon totems were added and they dominated the meta?
It’s been 2 years since the last boon perk and none have been used at all in any builds. This isn’t about the perks themselves this is about the actual mechanic of boons. This is what I would do to make boons stronger but not op

Boon General Changes

  • Boon totem radius is now 28m (was 24m)
  • When a boon totem is snuffed the effected totem goes on a 60 second cooldown. Once the cooldown is done the boon totem reactives. The effected totem will remain until either the totem is broken or you bless another totem

Would this make them good again? I can always adjust the post with feedback

I dont think boons should be that strong in first place, they arent hex perks meaning they dont have one use and only reason they were nerfed was mostly just all about CoH that was so busted two years ago that it made some strategies like hit and run or even killers like legion or twins, hag mostly super weak because everyone could just selfcare into full health alone in boon zone and it was fast.

That radius (28 meters) would be ok if only boons didnt work through multiple floors so maps like rpd, game, midwitch are super boon sided and offer more use from then boon perks.

That 60 seconds auto reboon is bs tbh because if this would be real than boon perks would need to be even weaker or if you couldnt replace the boon perk on another totem so its just one time use but still its infinite perk that will just reapply itself.

Boon meta was in my opinion one of worst because one perk dominated the game more than mft and for long time and made m1 killers even worse to play as than mft.

Boons shouldn't all be made to fit one singular set of parameters. Some boons might work better if they take longer to set up, some might be better with a larger radius, or a smaller one, some might be better off with some kind of cooldown when snuffed out, or a penalty during this cooldown…

Trying to make them all fit the same standard radius and standard set-up time is a recipe for disaster and probably the main reason we won't have any more boons and none of the boons are going to get any changes going forward.

Boons could have stayed (except the first Circle of Healing for yourself…) in my opinion when the Killer would have gotten shatterd hope basekit.

Shattered hope basekit would make the entire concept unusable, as it's too strong of a drawback, warranting further buffs, which killers wouldn't like either. High risk, high reward survivor perks just aren't gonna fly.

Thats why I said in my opinion. I like strong perks with counterplay on both sides.

Personally i agree with you considering there are 5 totems and applying a boon is much easier than finding and destroying it

Once the cooldown is done the boon totem reactives.

So killer can't really do anything against it…

You have many spots, where killer has to go really out of their way to snuff the totem. That would be just pointless with this.

Can we make it for hexes? So survivors have to cleanse them every 60 seconds. Doesn't really sound balanced…

my reasoning for putting the boon on a cooldown is this perspective

You spawn in you have to look for a totem, you find one, you spend 14 seconds blessing it, now you go to a Gen, the killer kicks the boon and now you got to go ALL the way back to rebless

You wasted all that time that could have been done on gens. So by it respawning every 60 seconds you don’t have to waste time anymore to go back and bless it.

There by it encourages survivors to run more boons since it all applies to one totem and it makes them run less of the other perks since only 4 can be used

I get what you mean but its kinda bad because boons arent that bad perks (excep that one that shows just generators aura and chests) like CoH is still b-tier perk at worst and shodow step is great on indoor maps, exponencial is very strong if survivors play altuistic and can counter sluging betetr than unbreable if they are sluged near the boon or in its range.

That time waste is there but you get good effect mostly and its like Iwould argue if killer has CoB and survivors repair the gen to stop regressing I can argue it should start regressing after 90 seconds because I spend like 14+ seconds travelinmg to that gen to apply that perk and its undone in 5 seconds or with simular arguments like with pentimento etc..

Boon is investing perk and killer is forced to find that totem and snuf it which is time waste by itself so it doesnt waste time only for the survivor but for the killer to especialy if its two floor map and totem is on another floor if killer doesnt have some ability to travel acrosse multiple floors like sadako, dreadge, nurse, dracula than he is just done with that totem because it will be 10 to 20 time waste maybe even more so I dont see reason to make it automatic, only if survivor lost option to boon different totems or totem could be booned to some max limit like 3 times and then it would be bloked for boon perk.

boons are still broken (since they're never disabled of snuffed) if you dedicate slots to em people want to run the meta which usually gives you stuff for free
