Why 2v8 need PTB?
It's already impossible to get a regular game in PTB in 40 mins 2v8 gonna be like 4 hour queue times the changes or Chucky ain't that crazy it should have just come to live.

Yet another good argument for expanding the PTB beyond just Steam.

I have no idea why 2v8 needed a PTB.
They never did this before, why do it now?
5 -
Idk tbh like they always just push changes in the next 2v8 now they are doing PTBs I don't wanna tests changes in a 4 hour wait sim to find a match
4 -
Agreed the PTB should just be a game mode or something everyone can test
5 -
For me 2v8 should be permanent but let us play few matches per day, casuals love this mode, main mode is too sweaty with almost every match being hard tunneling, camping or slugging

Public test servers have never been a thing on console for any multiplayer game yet, I'm pretty sure. Only PC has the proper infrastructure for it. So if they expand PTB it'll only be to EGS, which doesn't really matter.

I dont agree with the PTB itself being a gamemode that everyone can play on, but they should have a beta mode to test out idea's they work on iteratively. The PTB always has been meant to be something only a portion of players have access to, because it's a middle step between going from like 10-20 playtesters, to 5000-10000 playtesters, to 5 million players.
Like, it makes a lot more sense for perk changes or gamemechanics to get a beta gamemode before they even get added into a PTB.
They could reintroduce The Teacher as a killer that is the only killer available in that gamemode if they ever have a new killer ability they want to test out with only hitboxes and basic grey textures as to not give away what kind of killer it would/could be. This killer could also have multiple unique perks and addons that dont appear in the bloodweb.
They could introduce a survivor who has multiple unique perks that dont appear in the bloodweb, but only their inventory, to test out new perks.
Any new interactables on the map? Can be introduced on a very generic textureless objects.
It's not too difficult to implement that as a gamemode, it would give a ton of design feedback and mechanics that they might not implement now, but shelf for later.4 -
I could be wrong, but doesn't the PTB have bot Survivors to help deal with the long queue times? I imagine they could add bots to the 2V8 PTB queue without much protest, anyway. I doubt anyone would mind because the mode is primarily for testing and experimentation.
Perhaps they want to do a 2V8 PTB to avoid adding things to the mode that players will only end up complaining endlessly about (like what happened with The Legion). Btw, does anyone know if they will be coming back for the next 2V8? I've been taking a long break from DBD, so I've not kept up with all the recent developments.

I wonder if it's proving more popular than 1v4 nowadays so they're now wanting to make sure they get it right

they can add at least 3 bots in ptb when 2v8 starts in PTB since I can't imagine how long should killers will wait maybe like 1 hour :))
Also why they add just one killer? I thought they were adding 2 killers each interation, why not add Sprintrap or Unknown they kinda have simple powers same with Artist (through people will hate her for zoning) and Clown (they will complain too but at least we have tons of pallets to counter him)

I'm not sure what we should be testing. The new flashlight class?

as an Xbox player i can tell you this is not true.

I have no idea. I have questions

I wouldn't be surprised if it had to do with Nemesis now having 4 zombies.
For years, BHVR said that more than 2 was impossible due to engine limitations as a reason why additional zombies weren't implemented. I guess that, just in case it made the game collapse on itself, they put it in a PTB first.

Which multiplayer game has a PTB equivalent for its console versions? I vaguely remember R6 planning to before ending up cancelling it.

Both DayZ and Minecraft have "experimental" game versions on Xbox for testing things out, and I bet the PlayStations have something similar. It can certainly be done just requires the time and resources. I think they focus on Steam for the PBT because it's easier and familiar.
I'm reminded of a few PTB's back where they tested out what seemed like a hundred proposed changes, and believing more eyeballs & trials might have helped further point out what players were saying about those changes.
This 2v8 PTB with its lengthy killer queues again brings up the need for more broader participation. How many on Steam that can do the PTB actually do? A fifth? And how long to they play it? A day and a half? Less even?

I think pubg had one too, unless I was thinking dayz
bf4 had public test server too, it's still on my download list

Agreed I think it should be permanent it's a great casual experience

The argument is devs have never done a 2v8 ptb before they just make changes while 2v8 offline and the next iteration is being worked on and add it to live.
They should have just added it and released it on the 8th (same day as 2v8 ptb) for all of us to try it and give feedback. Ptb regular matches take 40mins to find a match a 2v8 ptb match is gonna take 4 hours to find.
3 -
Legit regular 2v8 matches take 20-40 mins, on the ptb I'm not joking when I say its probably gonna take 2-4 hours to find 1 match
3 -
Mmm true that's really the only fair argument I can see

New flashlight class, Killer class changes, Chucky and his buffs, Nemesis with his 4 zombies, Herbs are coming back as Tonics around every map

It's basically turning into how Fortnite turned out Fortnite has Building and Sweatlords would build Mansions to protect themselves and you could never get a shot in cause of it.
So then NO build mode came out and over the years it grew bigger and bigger cause it was so casual and enjoyable it outshined the regular mode and has way more players.
And that's what 2v8 is becoming like no build it's growing to be way more fun and enjoyable for Survivors and Killers

I've never played Fortnite but I do watch my nephews play. I did wonder where all the fort building disappeared to.
Honestly, the 2v8 situation really shows how important swfs are to this game. The reason killer is so crazy popular in that mode is because you can actually play with a friend. 1v4 will never go away, because the devs rely on DLC sales and perks are a big factor in that. Not to mention not every license holder will be keen on sharing the stage with others. But I could see it eventually running as its own permanent mode.

Yeah I was always solo Q for years and since 2v8 came my friends got interested now we're having fun laughing and playing as survivors not killing together as killers. 1v4 will always have a place but 2v8 will also belong as well
