About the “Hex: Thrill of the Hunt” Build
I play in Japan, and I’ve been seeing this perk setup very often lately: Hex: Thrill of the Hunt, Hex: Ruin, Hex: Pentimento, and Hex: Face the Darkness.
When killers run this build, the match often stops being a “repair generators” game and turns into a “cleanse totems” game, which I find frustrating and not very fun.
Cleansing totems takes a long time, and if I’m about to finish cleansing and then scream (or the killer comes over), I often end up not being able to cleanse it at all. Maybe this can be managed with a coordinated SWF using voice chat, but when I’m playing solo queue, there’s no coordination, so it often feels like an almost unwinnable match.
Has there been any discussion or consideration of countermeasures, such as preventing survivors from screaming while interacting with a totem (for example, while cleansing or blessing it)?
Thank you.

Honestly, in this kind of scenario you can do 2 things:
- Ignore it. Ruin can be ignored. This does not apply on all hexes.
- The person who is the one cursed (injured and therefore triggered Face The Darkness) should be the one to go for totems.
But to answer your question, no. There are no plans to change how totems work as far as I know.

Thanks for the reply.
About #1: In solo queue, it’s hard to coordinate, so it usually doesn’t line up with teammates. But I understand it can still be a valid counterplay.
About #2: Does that mean the cursed survivor won’t scream as long as they’re injured? From my experience, even if they’re injured, they still scream when they’re outside the Terror Radius, so they often can’t cleanse totems safely anyway.
So I’m wondering: is the Japanese description/translation of the perk incorrect, or am I misunderstanding how it works?

If I remember it right, the perk triggers by injuring a person, but that person is immune to the effects.
So there is always one person who is immune to the effects of the perk.

It’s not mentioned in the perk description, but is it intended that you won’t scream while you’re cleansing a totem that’s affecting you?

I think so...

Perk does state that it effects only the other survivors.
"Injuring Survivor by any means lights a Dull Totem, activating the Hex.
While the Hex is active, all other survivors outside of your Terror Radius will scream every 35/30/25 seconds revealing their positions and auras for 2 seconds."

I thought “other survivors” meant “survivors other than the killer,” but is that what it meant? Still, I was screaming even while injured, so maybe a bug was happening under certain conditions.

Thanks. But since I was still screaming, it might have been a bug after all...
I’ll try testing it in different situations and see what I find.0 -
It only activates on first survivor getting injured at the time and stays active until that person is healed or the totem is cleansed. It can be reactivated if it was not cleansed by injuring another survivor. So if you kept screaming you either were not the first survivor who the killer injured somehow or he was running an add-on that also makes you scream.

The unfortunate thing is old Calm Spirit would've helped a ton against this build because it suppresses screaming. Unfortunately when the devs decided to add interactions chest/totems are silent they also added the negative effect to the perk to make those interactions take much longer. So you could run Calm Spirit to not scream BUT you will also be spending even more time trying to cleanse the totems.

If you're seeing this often enough running solo queue and it really bugs you, I suggest adding hardened to your build (Lara Croft perk, if you are FTP just keep checking the shrine it will show up in there eventually). Not only will it stop you from screaming, but it will also reveal the killer's aura to you every time you would have screamed. You do have to clean or bless one totem and open a chest for this perk to activate and it will often be a waste of a perk slot (unless, again, you are seeing this build constantly) so there is kind of a payoff to this. I typically like to run this with Inner Strength to get some extra benefit from messing with the totem, but you can also run it with a boon that you enjoy or just not double dip lol.
Hopefully this helps in your future matches! <3
