The Skull Merchant Rework So Far?
So Far(from what I can remember):
The Skull Merchant will be getting a rework possibly this year and the last design preview used the drone dash and EMP explosive system to easily claw trap survivors and then damage them at a distance.
I personally see the preview as a good suggestion as it makes the killer significantly more approachable for killer players and the system is much easier for survivors to understand(you can outplay both the charging drones and the EMP explosives).
Last I heard of the rework they said that they were going to look it over again. If anyone has more info on the rework please comment below(I haven’t been paying much attention to the latest DBD news due to my life being very busy, thank you commenters for any info)
Personal thoughts:
The current laser scan system has you tracking the drones position, the drones lasers, the rotation of the drones, while also managing survivors who can make your power useless by either using all the garbage on the map or just crouching(and the rewards for scanning people three times aren’t even that good as even if you injure someone body blocking and flashlights exist to completly nullify any progress you made). To me this is not fun at all this is more akin to a chore.
I was one of the few people who really liked the original skull merchants active zone power. Its ability to go through walls, floors and apply a medley of status effect based on the add ons you were using was heavenly for me(especially since it nullified the threat of dead hard). The amazing ability to track survivors at almost all times combined with stealth perks made for some very enjoyable games where I would scare people by just appearing from around a corner. Were it up to me I would have the drones in the rework either deploy the active zone but make the zones pure information only(no exposed three gen and no more fickle lasers) or make that active zone a very rare or even an iridescent add on. As for the red light green light power suggested in the rework instead of the easily countered power just make it like a really big active zone that will detect people no matter where they are or what they are doing which is really useful in identifying the highest priority objective(or at least make it an add on if not base kit)
All in all my thoughts can be summarized as this: Drone crash and EMP explosives are interesting ideas that I would personally like to see and in my opinion the drones should have that active zones retuned and have it only be info based and only add ons can apply status effects like exhausted and blindness (no exposed though we already experienced that nightmare once and that was enough for everyone)

As far as ive seen for progress towards a rework, they scrapped the piloted drone idea, put in the slight buff and terrible rework to her stealth activation, and said we will see how this goes for now and if the feedback still wants a rework, they might consider it, as it sounds like they want to stop working on her as its taking too many resources to keep going back to try and fix her in a way that makes everyone happy. Have not heard if the new buff is final or the rework is still going to happen.

She needs her second scanline back as well as the stealth drones. The buffs barely helped her and the stealth being attached to recalling a drone is a terrible change. She definitely needs more buffs. They intentionally butchered her in 8.3.0, so now they also have to actually work on her.

Thank you for commenting this like I said above I have been very busy and haven’t been able to pay much attention to DBD. It does saddens me that they are not considering the drone pilot idea anymore, but they cannot just leave this pathetic shell of a power as her power, the fact they are considering this is actually insulting for all the people who bought the chapter or play her. if they leave her as is and claim they won’t rework her I still see them reworking her at some point in the future because this power is so pathetic it makes mid tier killers look like top killers. The drone crash power I feel would have been very good and healthy for the game overall, in my opinion they should reconsider it.

Now when three gens are resolved they can go back to original skull merchant so…
→ She creates area that exposes
→ can remotely activate drones
→ claw trapped survivors break pallets upon vaults
→ shes undetectable inside drones

To be honest I would disagree, that version of her was way too weak in chase. I would rather have the double scanline version with the stealth drones that also gave haste on scans. There, she was somewhat viable in chases.

Please, BHVR, just revert to v2 of the killer. Skull Merchant will always be disliked by a portion of the player base, no matter what you do, so to at least satisfy those who like the killer, just revert it to how it was before. You'll save resources, and at least the SM fanbase will be happy.
Just… Please.
