Please do not go through with basic/special breaks/vaults
It sounds horrible, please do not go through with this, it nerfs builds that aren't even that strong, it wont even affect meta builds. All it does it nerf/ruin fun builds that aren't that strong. Please reconsider this. I am begging you.

Its working mostly already how they stated they are just making it clearer to the player what is what. Overall improvement when currently some descriptions are really confusing to even some more experienced players.

Sounds horrible perhaps,
but if people have trouble understanding it would you rather have people not understand it or have it sound good to you?
I like to think about the Future of Dead By Daylight and honestly this is a good start on the new decade of dbd.

As someone else said, this is a language change on a bunch of perks, not a balance change.
They're introducing a set of terms to make it more clear how perks CURRENTLY work, for the most part. I'm sure a handful of perks could get adjusted alongside it, but the idea of "special breaks" and "special vaults" in general is just to make it more clear how perks function and what activates them.

This is purely a visual change as it was said on the stream. No perks were adjusted or changed, just the text on the perk itself to make it easier to understand for newer players getting into the game since dbd is not known for being new player friendly

Didn't they literally make it so Spirit Fury only works with "Basic Break" actions? That's a nerf to all killers that can use their power in some way to break pallets for charges. And who's to say they wont do that to other perks? For all we know, they could do the same thing to perks like Bam or Thwack.

What people are referring to is that one of the examples shown for this new language was Spirit Fury, and that one in particular did have a description that reads differently to how it currently works.
The overall basic/special split is still a set of language changes even if that one perk is changing and it's still worth pointing that out. The question of what's going on with Spirit Fury is its own conversation separate to the language change.

It‘s not even about understanding. Perks like alert and spirit fury are getting an stupid nerf, because they want to separate how you break pallets

Even if this went through, it wouldnt change much to what people typically do anyway.
So for me, this feels like nothing happens no matter the outcome.
Most will still play ghoul with the sweatiest loadout
And i will keep playing hyperfocus, because its the only reliable yet fun build i can consistently have fun against the gen-regression spam i get close to every match.

That's why I clarified, I'm not talking about the language changes, I just don't like this mechanical change. It ruins some Spirit Fury builds and might affect other builds beyond it, like Oni Twack for example, if they make that into Basic Break only, the Oni mains just get screwed over, it's better to just keep special and basic breaks and vaults the same thing. That way off-meta builds can still be fun and aren't getting needlessly nerfed.

That's the issue, if they do this, it's only reinforcing only going for the meta.
-1 -
Just out of curiosity, which fun builds would be nerfed this way?

Right, but my point is the mechanical change is only relevant to Spirit Fury and only because there's a discrepancy in the description we were shown.
This isn't a set of mechanical changes. It's a set of new words. If Thwack works on special breaks now, then presumably, the perk card will say "basic or special break" on it after the new words are introduced.
Or, well, probably "by any means" since that's how it's phrased for basic/special attacks, but you get my point.I'm not saying it's impossible for perks to be adjusted to be more standardised, in fact I think that's going to happen alongside the new phrasing, but that would be a separate change to introducing the phrasing "special break".

They already did this by nerfing fog-vials into the ground.
Idk why they want everyone to go all meta.
-1 -
But Spirit Fury currently does work with Special Breaks, the version they showed only has Spirit Fury working on Basic Breaks

Spirit Fury is just a preview to what they will do to other perks. They said that there was no mechanical changes and then immediately showed us a perk being nerf from it. Their word means nothing.
Likely what will happen is perks that used to trigger on any pallet break will now only trigger on "basic" breaks as to remove syngery with killer powers. Alert is also very likely going to see the same thing where it only triggers on "basic" breaks. We already know BHVR hated vault perks working with powers despite it being in the game for years before they started removing it.

…Yes. Spirit Fury looks like it might be changing considering what they showed doesn't match how the perk works now.
That isn't inherently due to the new phrases. The new phrases are still a good and useful tool. They're still just more accurate descriptions to convey how perks work better and to allow more streamlined conversation about balance.
Like, example. You mentioned Thwack earlier. Let's assume for a moment that Thwack gets a similar change and only works on basic breaks.
That would be a fairly unnecessary change, and I would agree with resisting it. However, the way we resist that change could very easily be to say "this perk should activate from special breaks", not to say the concept of the phrase "special break" is a problem.
The core change being made here is language, not balance. IF some perks are being changed ALONGSIDE the new phrasing, that could be a problem, but the new phrasing itself is not the issue.

They didnt say any perks were getting changed, but I would not be against it. Those perks are pretty strong on like Bubba.

it was only a matter of time tbh, they already did this with vaulting powers.
However thanks to how myers currently works(completely brain dead and busted) and how he is the killer is see end/fury on most I would be happy with this change.

I am still vexed about the flavor text getting removed for no good reason.
